For those curious, the final step in Maintenance Report reads:
"4. Mandatory Suicide
If you've made it this far you've seen too much. At this point, the animatronic should become fully aware and hostile because of your recent tamperings. Accept your death with open arms because the door is now locked and you can/will not from this room. Even if you somehow manage to evade this situation, do not think you have saved yourself because I will know."
There's approximately 13 lines to the paragraph, with roughly 8 being entirely decipherable. Based on letter shapes and what I can infer, line 9 reads as "Do keep in mind I know where you and your family live."
Line 10/11 looks roughly like "You must realize by now that suicide is necessary."
In 12/13 it looks like it's goading you a little. "[?[ really must be a [?] [?] of [?] animatronic."
It ends with what I can assume is "Do suffer in peace", however I'm not quite sure if the second word is correct (I can't see the tails of an S and it is a longer word than "rest", but the final sentence is definitely "do [blank] in peace") .
If anyone can suggest or help me infer I'd love to have the whole 4th step complete, just for posterities sake and because my eyes hurt.
Edit:
Using some measuring and general english formatting, I've come up with the relative length of each word in line 12/13.
Word one: 11 letters, give or take 1 or 2.
Word two: 6 letters with 2 repeating, and a y. _"Really"_
Word three: 4 letters. I assume it's _"Must"_
Word four: 2 letters. Must be a determinative. _"Be"_
Word five: 1 letter. Must be a determinative. _"A"_
Word six: 4 letters, give or take 1 or 2.
Word seven: 4 letters, give or take 1 or 2.
Word eight: 2 letters. Must be a determinative. _"Of"_
Word nine: 8 letters, give or take 1.
Word ten: 12 letters, give or take 1 or 2.
The grammar in the writing as a whole is fine with minimal errors or typos, so I can assume that Spectre is a native English speaker. I am confident with what I've found so far, and really I could probably ask directly if I got it all correct, but I'm shy 👉👈

I didn't look to see if they fit the shapes, just inferring based on the blanks.
@@avengingme If you could see the screenshot I used to decipher all of this you'd laugh; it's a blurry mess. The structure of the sentence is strange, as there are several long words. "[long] really must be a [short] [short] of [medium] [long]." I have no idea what the first word could be, besides maybe disappearance/disappearing.
The cries of the child inside Bonnie hit so hard, and really remind you how the game’s story really started. Matpat’s mentioned before that we often forget about how truly sad the story is, and it’s true. We all make jokes like “Oh, funny purple guy! Man behind the slaughter!”, but when you really think about it, it’s so sad and unsettling. Kids died, probably in horrible ways. They might’ve not even been fully dead when they were brutally stuffed in the suits. Parents were devastated. Hearing those cries is just downright painful. I don’t often get actual chills from FNaF (not anymore), but this did it for me. It made me freeze up and had my skin covered in goose bumps. I really hope the mainstream games lean more into this type of horror, as it’s something I think we can all agree has been lost in the franchise.

When it comes down to it, this type of stuff happens. Not necessarily animatronics coming to life, but children and innocent lives being taken from them, while these murderers go without being caught.

I think the reason the hips are so crucial to their movements is cause they literally have no spine, their back is completely stiff because it’s a hard plastic or metal (at least to my knowledge) so all movement in the torso has to be done with the hips. So indeed, those hips do not lie.

I'm surprised Mat didn't notice the "Mandatory Suicide" on the checklist in Maintenance Report. It's a really cool detail that adds more shady characteristics to Fazbear Ent.
Did anyone else notice that step 4 of the bonnie salvage was “Mandatory Suicide”? And the steps were “By now, the animatronic should be fully aware and hostile due to your tamperings. You should accept your death with…” and then it gets too hard for me to read 47:11

I think the "hips" line around 27:00 was more to do with the fact that Chica was leaning forward. I don't think her eyes disappeared, they were just hidden by the shadows
Yeah, that's what I thought as well, the eyes seemed obscured by the leaning forward, but I don't think they disappeared.
To say that "her hips moved" was a bit of an understatement honestly xD

the board actually says that it was a "mandatory suicide"..he was meant to die and that's why the door was locked. It was planned to kill him (except he didn't know that as he hadn't gotten to the line about it)

This sort of stuff isn't created through VR, its done using a 3D software such as blender, and then importing real tracked camera footage data to the camera within the 3D space. It's a method I use for my FNAF VHS tapes, as well as how Kane produced the Backrooms found footage - once again similar to me and many other creators👍

The talk about using sounds for animatronic movement/a secret animatronic language is actually really funny to me, because that is EXACTLY how the 1980s Teddy Ruxpin toy works
Because he works by using a variety of different cassette tapes, all the programming needed to blink his eyes and open his mouth is on the tape itself. They're stereo cassettes, but only the right channel has audio. There's a total of 8 channels on the tape, but only a few are utilized. Channels 2-4 have the Teddy Ruxpin programming, which is frequency based.
The next channel is used to determine if Teddy is singing along with his (sold separately) friend, Grubby! Then, channels 6-8 are used for Grubby's programming. The funny thing about this is that Grubby doesn't have a cassette player built in, so he's only functional alongside a Teddy, tethered together with an proprietary audio cable - aka, Teddy has to "talk" with Grubby in a language only they understand, just so Grubby can talk and blink.
All of this means that if you were to play a Teddy Ruxpin tape in a normal cassette player, it would sound VERY weird, because it would play ALL channels, instead of just the right side. Kinda like the audio cues here, but not as intense and pretty quiet all things considered. I think it's a pretty neat attention to detail :)

He was rather rude to the animatronic. Literally one of the first things the series pointed out was that you should show the animatronic mascots some respect, for a good few reasons - pissing them off being a very real possibility just happened to not be one mentioned outright.

Another thing I've never heard mat talk about is that the Silver Eyes is called the Silver Eyes because of Foxy's eyes, which scare charlie. However, in the graphic novel, Dave, or Afton, is the only one with colored Irises, which are grey.
I've only been watching GTLive since 2020 but in the last 3 years it has been my main source of comfort, I will never be able to fully explain how much this channel means to me

At 49:10 I think in terms of sound design, FNAF 1 and 4 nailed it in terms of giving off a sense of being uncomfortable. From the moans, you hear from Bonnie and Chica in 1, to Nightmare Fredbear's laugh and the breathing just gives me goosebumps every time I play.
Matpat and ash just sharing a braincell lightens the horror of the tapes it's really amazing

My guess for the warbling audio cues in the first video is that they're basically encoded messages, designed to be impossible to accidentally reproduce in, say, a loud pizzaria.
Listening to them talking about Air Up genuinely is actually quite refreshing. By that I mean a lot more genuine than the traditional sponsor sections and hearing things they don’t like, for example the size of the regular bottle or one of the flavours. My sister bought one, and at first we thought it just didn’t work. Then we figured out that we just had Covid and none of us could smell properly. Tried it again a few weeks later and it does work. Personally, it’s not my cup of tea, I don’t like weaker flavours. When I have things like squash, I’ll add more than you’re supposed to. I don’t like things like sparkling water or tonic water. But it does work, better than I expected it to. I’m personally gonna stick to squash, as it does make me drink a lot more than normal, but I can understand why people like it, and for once it’s not just a marketing ploy.

So the original 5 1/4” floppy disks were actually floppy, as compared to the hard cover 3.5” ones, but the name stuck as it was essentially the same tech. I’m personally familiar with them as I got to mess and setup some OG macs in middle school for kicks.
This is correct (as someone who is just old). I think calling the disks floppy was also a pun on/differentiator from "hard disks" which were usually built into the computer and not supposed to be removable.
The man in the second video is very bold,after seeing bonny's head turning and stopping right in front of him and tilting around making weird noises i wouldn't even think of getting closer to it to check what is wrong,i would be far away from this place as soon as possible

Speaking of sound design, the first game is always the scariest to me because i can still feel the adrenaline and fear in me shoot up when i hear foxy's clonky running as he tries to kill you. still gets my heart racing.

FINALLY Mat is watching these! They’re the only FNAF VHS tapes that scare me, I’ve been wanting so badly to see him watch them. Awesome to see Spectre getting the recognition he deserves!

Just in case anyone's wondering: they're called floppy disks because the older larger disks were actually floppy. Only the later smaller 3.5" ones were mostly rigid which can make it kind of confusing.
48:40 the thing that intrigues me the most that I think Mat missed is that the video loops essentially, if you go the beginning, we start at where we end. Almost like somebody kept a tape on replay, and the intro got messed up. (My 2005 brain doesn’t understand older technology like the ancient ones do)
I liked how specter shower withered Bonnie’s arm, slouch, leg and face loss from salvaging. I for some reason thought it was because they got old o certain pieces just fell off but I was dumb lol

As a band kid myself, I don’t think that was a double-reed; if it was reeded, I think it was closer to a clarinet; however, it sounded more like those instruments which use glass cylinders in a “keyboard” layout to play. I’d be interested to know how they actually made that audio prompt…
Edit: that instrument is called a “Cristal Baschet.” Forgot for the moment of writing.

I grew up with the smaller floppy discs. I think the bigger ones were pretty floppy compared their smaller cousins.

Those 5¼" disks were in fact floppy. 3.5" disks were smaller and plastic encased. But the video did insert them backwards, lol. Interesting he didn't mention the mandatory suicide. Enjoyed these, thanks GTL

I am shocked that Matpat didn’t know that the original floppy disks were floppy. They were super big too (I think around 8 inches). It wasn’t until the much later 3 1/2 inch floppy disk that they had a hard case.
i don’t think i’ve ever said this about any sort of channel show ever but i literally tune to listen to ash as much as i do to see mat. i love them sm
for years, people spoke of how la croix was like drinking the fart of a flavor (like a strawberry's fart, or a peach's fart, or whatever), but now, air up has skipped that level entirely and gone straight for giving you flavor farts...that are surprisingly actually more effective than the farts of flavor in la croix, apparently.
Fun fact: the real reason they're called floppy disk, is in 1971, the first generation of easy portable media was made: the 8in diskette. Big and floppy, it earned the nickname "floppy disk". Shortly after, another format, the 3.5 in diskette was introduced, this is what MatPat is talking about, it kept the "floppy" nickname, since it looked like a smaller version of the bigger ones. No other reason.

Fun fact! Those ARE the floppy kind of floppy disks. Computers like the Commodore64 used them and I (the bratty little kid I was) loved waggling the disks because they always returned to their normal flat shape. If you creased them, though, they could be ruined. You're thinking of the smaller plastic-case 3.5mm floppy disks...which were NOT floppy.
the best part of this video is the fact that for 10 minutes straight Ash and Matt are talking about anything but what the video is about 😌
It's probably a good thing Freddy's reuse their stuff because the recycling plant probably isn't equipped to deal with remnant and while dilute, remnant in everything made from recycled materials might be a problem.
Honestly I'm surprised we haven't had a story where someone's hip replacement has been contaminated with remnant.

I’m so happy MatPat is finally taking a look at these VHS tapes. The VHS tapes really remind me of the “hidden lore” of FNAF. But whatever it is, MatPat can solve!
I went and watched all the tapes currently out before watching this video and I can say it’s definitely worth it! They were actually VERY well done. Self soothing, how our eyes dart around when things get weird, etc. I’m curious to see how what Mat has to say about it.

Honestly looking at how we all see FNAF in our own way is what I love about it. It's a spring board for us to come up with our own twists and Ideas. My view of it is vastly different than others is, and I find it wonderful.

Yes the disk is definitely backwards. Also those looked like the old 5.25” floppy disks which weren’t made of hard plastic.
