Blacksmithing is a very hard and dirty work. Yet you've managed to make your videos very entertaining and educational. Thanks man for your excellent work and effort to produce these great videos.
if you really love this type of forging video you should check out 'shurap', his videos are amazing
So this is what Stuart little' brother has been up to after the movies
My beautiful and amazing Princess lol nice

I respect this kid, not because of his talent.. i respect him cuz he loves every part of what he does, even the pain of getting wounds, burns, whatsoever. He's got a lot of passion for what he does.
HIS CONTENT GOT BETTER NOW THAT HE HAS JAMIE AND A BETTER WORKSHOP BUT BARKER STREET WE WILL NEVER FORGET SHIT CAPS LOCK
Kid? He's older than you.
Aidan Kukosky Lmao how do you know old he is? He literally doesn’t even have a channel description
Tweedle Dee I can tell just off his profile picture alone. I also can guess your IQ based off the comment you just wrote.
No, at least my assumptions are within reason, you are comparing an elephant to a mouse here bud.

Alex, I cant believe how tight the production values are on this vid. We watched you fold the steel yesterday and today a Karambit with a tight soundtrack!
+david duffy thank you my friend! Glad to hear my hard work paid off with you 😀

Passion in craftsmanship, we need more of this type of people in the world
You should try to compete in forged in fire I would love to see you smoke everyone there lol
It's not real. Everything on T.V. is scripted. He's a blacksmith, not an actor.
@@cooliobob1274 thats an incorrect inference. Watch the forged in fire episode with the Inigo Montoya Rapier. The winner of that episode, Ron Hardmann, runs a blacksmith shop called Kilroys Workshop. He is indeed a real blacksmith, as well as the rest of the competitors throughout the seasons.
@@monroe8458
They may be real smiths but that doesn't mean they don't have to follow a specific script in accordance to compete and get publicized on national television.
@@cooliobob1274 sure, they may have to say different things or talk about something in a different tense, but you dont have to be an actor for that, do you?
@@monroe8458
If one says something or acts in a way that they normally wouldn't do they are an actor.
He has the smile , the enthusiasm , its like looking at a kid playing with a toy , its refreshing and he makes it look so much fun that youre just going , whaaaa!
Now that is beautiful! I love the wood grain effect you managed to get.
+Bethany Doubtfire Thanks Bethany!
im very happy that i see young people continue working and doing one of the oldest job of our history. this is not for everyone
He is a hell of talented black smith at very young age God bless you and keep up with good work.
It sort of reminds me of wrought iron, interestingly.
Also, nice burn on the back of your hand. Was that from the jelly roll damascus jumping at you?
Yes! 😂😜
Thought so. Hope it heals nicely.
I thought you got hurt again.
Beg pardon?
Yeah, wtf is wrong with you?
Love your enthusiasm bro, great work.
Just watched random videos on youtube. Then something brought me to this. Blacksmithing in the 20th century. Its so unique.
I like how this mate is always so happy it really makes his videos a good watch.
Yeah!!
Impressive work, Alec, both on the blade and the editing. You grow as a craftsman by the day...

Amazing work, and your positive attitude is beautiful and contagious. Well done and thankyou.
you're one of my favorite youtubers, alec. such a wholesome man. you deserve all your success
"Your fruit killing skills are remarkable"-Gaz.
It did come out looking like wootz! That's cool! That's the closest I've seen anyone get to the pattern in wootz steel without actually making it. That's incredible.
Monkeysrock I would have to agree 100%, Alec Steele is a very talented young man. Woots/crucible steel is the original Damascus which was never made in Damascus lol but I consider any form of a forge welded billet of different steels Damascus and always will. As soon and my new Anyang 88 gets wired up I plan on doing something very similar but hope to finish with a large billet which means I hill have to make a larger forge or add on to the one I have.
Oh, you're one of those pompous pricks...
Walter Sorrels made a video about this topic, you should check it out before you continue this half-educated whimper.
watch?v=ISSGL4Ns2qw
looks more like regular wrought iron
you seem to be the person that is most triggered jtomos, and also the person who struggles most to understand other peoples comments - I would just stop commenting at this point if i was you.
Cssfiend I think jtomos is just a troll. Needs to pull his head out of the forge for air.
Alec, you´re the essence of what Art is...and the 1 Million Layers pattern is nothing more the pattern of your Haircut...

Alex good karambit, please make kris blade next.
rizt27
I agree. I would like to see how he would approach forging all of those tight curves. The kris is one of my favorite blade shapes.
rizt27 you mean "keris" traditional Indonesian weapon (java, bali, madura)
rizt27 U.K.,ooojhnunjn
There's no way he can made a proper keris. He doesn't have one critical elements that make keris fly.
what an incredible masterpiece. This legendary karambit is worthy to be a token of honour for a war hero. Salute to you master blacksmith, southeastasian approves
sorry for my english
Corona made me addicted to forging videos.
you sir are a inspiration on how to teach through CZcams. take the complement from a professional educator. but I have a question that I have not seen answered anywhere; in your opinion what are the first tools and skills that someone should acquire when starting in blacksmithing?
An opposite-handed friend to split pairs of gloves with. ;-)
@Max Nimmert: welding! take it from me you need it. And skills with temps that will give 3rd degree burns in a matter of seconds. Skills with heavy hammers, metal and wood working skills, get use to power tools, sanding, and leather working. Just to name a few. I my self am a blacksmith with a lot of
experience on my belt these are skills you need before you think about being a blacksmith
i know this question was not directed at me but I night be able to help. besides the obvious (forge, anvil, hammer) I'd really consider a good set of metal files. it gives you a tremendous feel for shaping things and it will carry over to when you get power tools.
Max Nimmert having the right materials!
Max Nimmert best tool is your brain. Think before you act.
The 1 million should have been in Roman numerals. :-)
Roman numerals can only go up to 4,999, but I guess you could make up some roman numerals.
Danny Le could have put 1000 M:s ^^
Why put ROMAN NUMERALS on a steel named after its ARABIC origin? Are not Arabic numerals perfectly suited in this case?
Or.. as it's Philippino origin, 1 milyon
*_-TheOlian04-_* there is a way you roll write M with a line over it
I love your passion for the work you do !!
Congratulations, a very interesting knife! Greetings from Brazil :)

That looks amazing!!! Having the skill of being a blacksmith is a very rare skill these days.
The layers are so thin that it doesn't even look like Damascus. It just looks like millions of inclusions.
Bobby Blair I thought you were a girl from ur profile picture
WOW IM REALLY OFFENDED DON’T ASSUME GENDERS WOOWWWWW
It does indeed, and he have missed a info there, saying that normalizing process turns the grains smaller, it's the opposite. But it's a great video though.
(I'm Brazilian, any misspelling is now justified XD)
Bobby Blair hating ass
A Halo Habit. Please, I hope you are joking. This recent spate of gender identification is just a divisive tool to get us arguing.

idk who you are but i liked and subscribed to your chanel this is the first vid of yours ive seen
Nice music and its always a pleasure to see how to forge a weapon.

hi,
you requesting us to make some comments. I'll do it now. You make pretty interesting video about blacksmithing. I have fun to watch them every now and again. What I particularly noticed was your smile. You make these videos full of enthusiasm. And you remind me of a movie called Wayne's World. Every time i watch you, i have to think of Garth. Nice greetings from Germany :)
+Nebucad LaVey Thank you my friend!

yes sir. It will kill.
Mike Laducer Doug would tell it's to big to be effective. Just like the karambit challenge on forged in fire.
bro, i just watched only 2 videos posted by you, and just out of pure respect for your determination and craftsmanship, you've got yourself a new subscriber!
This guy’s hammer strikes are ridiculously precise, the beveling work he did was amazing! Cheers to this guy! I’d say he has shown he has big brass balls, but I think Million layer Damascus steel balls are more appropriate!
Hey Alec, I am 14 years old. The snow is melting here in Canada, and I have always wanted to try metal working. I have access to a medium-ish anvil in decent shape, it will do for me. The one thing I don't have is a forge. I would like to know what forge to start with. Should I make a coal forge, buy one? Buy a propane forge? Money isn't in abundance as I am 14. Should I make tongs, try to buy tongs and hammers. What should I do? I hope you answer my questions. Thank you!
Jerri Bruce you can make a coal forge using a truck break drum and a blow dryer for forced air. A blower would work better but finding that is a little harder. It’s the cheapest way to start. Channel locks will help until you can make tongs. You can some times find hand crank Vulcan forges in antique stores for really cheap. Same for tongs. They may just need a bit of work and TLC. Sometime you can find someone whose parent had a forge and they are throwing it away.

Alec, after binge watching the viking sword series, it is incredible to see how far you've come as an artisan in your craft. Keep up the great work and never lose that fire to do what you love!
Love his vibe, and respect his skill 👏
Man, do you make knives from this Damascus steel for sale? I'd love to get a blade and handle finished. I'd make the handle. Let me know.
IT'S HAMMER TIME!
Very nice blade. Keep up the good work Alec.
Alec very well done. Thank you for forging your bevels instead of grinding. You are turning out to be quite the blade smith. Its always exciting to watch you work.
i always look for the "no apples were harmed in the making of this video" notice cause thats very improtant to me.... your video failed :o
Why don’t you do forged in fire
Fantastic job. Beautiful krambit!!!
Alec it's time for You to make another Karambit and show everyone how much progress You made in Your ART. Seriously it would be awesome!
Karambit is a traditional weapon from Sumatera - Indonesia... another famous weapon is Keris Blade from Java - Indonesia, try to make one next time dude...
estu putra keris blade
is it possible to buy?? i am very intrested since my brother is turning 20 in about 2 months i want to get him a cool present and hes had karambits in the past and i think this would be perfect! just respond to this if possible or please like it it will help him see it!!!
That’s a work of art. Great job.
Beautiful very nice markings.
1 karambit is useless . make 6 and attach them to your arms to be like wolverine .or fingers to be like velociraptor.
Orestas Vanagas sounds like fun
Or to your forearm to be like Batman!
every karambit is uselles in figt cuz it cant protec ur fingers
because Karambit is not really a weapon before the popularity of counter strike .
It is really a farming tool . It's just a small sickle !
Karambit is a weapon focused for assassination.
You can tell it by it's shape
heyyy Alec can you make some more live Videos on instagram

Nice Karambit dude!...
And you look happy bro did this
Why would anyone dislike this?
I've read in some reputable books that it's a waste of time to do more than about 30,000 layers because the metal becomes homogenized, also there is more of a chance to have a weld that can fail with all thos folds.
Those books seem to have been disproven by this very video though. Doing a million folds and welding it by hand(very difficult) seems much different than the people who use power hammers for welding all the layers. If the billets are properly fluxed and you use a power hammer it comes out perfect nearly every time. The acid etch also shows off plenty of "grain" in the metal too.
Redspeciality yes because he's going to be welding a trailer hitch to a Karambit... of course there's no purpose but it's a freaking knife, it's not like you're pulling a thousand pound trailer behind you. There's really nothing to break, it's a single piece of metal. Unless he smacks it with a sledgehammer, it won't break
Million?! It's very cool bro💪👍
so much effort for one karambit. well done, sir... very well done for the effort and for making this video condensed. one like for you. one again, well done and good job.
I don't like the skinny handle

Alec as allways great video 👍
That's kinda big for a karambit
Plot twist im prolapsed
Zachary Bauer all the kids commenting..... True karambits are smaller. It's supposed to be a stealthy weapon.
David Horgan wrong
You think it is small because you play too much Csgo but you don’t see the real world
No, it's not. There is no fixed size for karambits, alot of Indonesian karambits are bigger than you'd think. This has it's advantages and disadvantages but it's up to the possessor of the karambit. Look at this video and you'll see
czcams.com/video/KZnqzy_Yl1E/video.html
Very impressive!! You have crazy mad skills
Wow Alec you do awesome work, I love your Damascus stuff! Especially the Union Jack Cleaver!
minangkabau knife ..
Not Traditional damascus steel, because that's a lost art, But modern damascus.
MtEdeNLov3R it's not. Spain University and a blacksmith in U.S. make wootz damascus steel.
marcos nielsen It is. It was completely lost. We can very accurately imitate it but unless we got a lucky guess it will never be *the* Damascus steel
Lol good vid.... but looks like the kinda creepy guy you imagine hangs around kids parks
marcos nielsen wrong, the technology has been lost not because nobody forge it but the metal itself is special because it mixed with rare earth metal. U. Can search about type of metal found on damascus blade were not found in any blade existence.
The blade itself manufactured in india (Sri Lanka) and southerm india but the metal itself came from theblost kingson of sungai batu that has been discovered producing metal ore in mass quantitiy but non metal were found because Chola kingsom.from india took every metal and bring it its technology to india.
what?
4:29 when you flipped the karambit and it made that sound, its so satisfying
That is pretty much the best looking piece of pattern steel I have ever seen, well done man, well done!
im a begining black smith my self
and i wondered what oil you used to get the damascus patern out of it
"oil" :) i was confused af too when i saw FeCl3. You can make it by adding some steel wool to muriatic acid and waiting till it dissolves. Then just add appx. 2 parts hydrogen peroxide for every 1 part muriatic acid.
JWvdv don't use oil that is for quenching same with water. Soak in FeCl3 ferric chloride for 24-36 hours depending on the steels or other metals used and how much pattern you want.
depending on the concentration 36 hours could be a bad idea. you may want to give a acid %# with that.
You use ferric chloride but you also use regular motor oil to creat contrast between the metals
Make a texas flag damascus steel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joshua totally agree!!!!
Joshua I fully agree. texas flag damascus steel bowie knife would be awsome
