@@TheKonnoisseur11 I end up just sticking to semi fitted shirts and high waisted bottoms of some kind. Whenever I try to wear tshirts, or anything too loose on top, especially if it's got a stiffer fabric, I seem to look frumpy.
@@cocoacoolness I can absolutely understand your struggles. I think I've found a solution for the top part with deep v/wide v necklines, better if made of a soft knit that is a bit loose, this way there's draping starting from my shoulder. also wrap tops or with that crossed effect, again it's better if it's fluid/light knit. I was able to find a few brand that have a lot of these options and I stick with them. I'm still working on the bottoms!
@@cocoacoolness I don't know where you're located but they're all European brands. Intimissimi (italian lingerie brand) for the wrap tops in cashmere mix, Promod (french) for the deep v soft knits, MbyM (danish) for wrap tops as well. They're all quite affordable
The problem I have with this is that I feel like Sofia Vegaras style is not very "current"? It reminds me a lot of late 00s early 10s. I'd love to see you do style videos based on the hot influencers at the moment, like matilds djerf, Emma chamberlain and so on- I find it a lot easier to resonate with their style and I think this might help with typing a lot of younger people interested in Kibbe xxx
I knowww, right? When I look for references there are always only old Hollywood actresses, or women over 35. Which is fine, it still helps with the overall outline of the outfit, but I would love to steal an inspo from current fashion icons, such as Rihanna.
Look for inspiration in Tracee Ellis Ross - she's a SD and she's very bold and current with her styles. Also, we always have to understand that not every trend will be compatible with our type and especially with SD - this type has this specific "maturity" and "timelessness" about it, do it's really hard to look very trendy, imo.
A thing about being soft dramatic that i cant explain to anyone: I always feel too put together, even when i try to look undone and i dont put effort in it but i cant look casual and sporty, i always look elegant and posed. I mean its not that bad of a thing but sometimes i would love that wildy and chilled back and undone look, that feminine in a less glamourous way.

I went clothes shopping today and for the first time, when I looked in the mirror I didn’t judge my body and get frustrated at why my body didn’t look right in the outfits. Instead, I used your words to describe why the clothes weren’t right for me. As a 40-year-old, I can tell you this was a life changing mindset. I didn’t tell myself I was too fat or tall or broad. I embraced my curves and my height. I used the words strong and dramatic instead. Thank you for helping me reframe my thoughts. I found some great outfits and newfound confidence.

Kind of such a weird contradiction how a soft dramatic actually needs glamour to look casual! But I get it and I think it was you who said that soft dramatics can look boring and plain if they skip the glamour. It’s a new concept for me as a sd I think cos I’m a pretty low key person living in a VERY non glamorous country (New Zealand) so what I’ve always observe around me is super casual. So I am learning that not only can I carry those glamorous details but I really actually need them! I feel like my outfits have improved 100 percent since I started watching your videos! That's actually so funny to think about because I've noticed that when I really want to dress comfy kind of like sweatpants outfit, if I put on a sick pair of earrings somehow I look way better 😂 it's so easy for me to look frumpy but for some reason putting in a nice pair of earrings rather, it be smaller, large but as long as it's rounded and a bit sparkly the outfit is a lot more forgiving to the eye 😂
I deeply appreciate this video. Finding that casual sweet spot for an SD is so hard. It took me a while to understand what you meant about needing glam to elevate to casual but then it clicked! I've always known that with my body type there are so many things other people can wear and look casual but if I wear them I look frumpy and shlubby! Got it! On the other end of the spectrum, totally regular dresses on me can look like I'm trying to bombshell it out when I'm just trying to find something to go to a wedding. Oh, boy. I was once a 5'7" soft dramatic 13-yr-old and had such a hard time finding clothes. I experimented with every style I could and felt the best in glamorous vintage dresses but never really figured out casual clothes. I wish I'd had this advice. @@alexba1ley I am a 5'7'' SD too lol I have known about Kibbe for 4 years by now, but yeah would have saved me from thinking why I looked really bad with a white shirt and dark pants or vice versa and many other fashion questions. I still wear light pants with a darker shirt though as it accentuates my bottom heavy body and I have finally embraced it
I was also 5’7” at 13 and a soft dramatic…it’s rough to find clothes at that age! Love that you’re working with her body type 💕 I used to really love boho dresses at that age with a waist belt, scarves were also my thing lol v Stevie nicks for me.
I love this! The shirt thing spoke to my soul. As someone inspired by French fashion, I spent SO years not getting why the ''classic white shirt'' (and a lot of menswear inspired ''classic'' clothes) looked absolutely awful on me (Soft Dramatic/Dark Autumn, probably the worst clothing item for me lol). I'd love to see a video on borrowing lines from other types like you exemplified with the flowing FN skirts. For SD I often see recommendations about borrowing from FN and TR, but I'm particularly interested about borrowing from SN, since I feel SN clothes are easier to find in casual wear as well and the types feel somewhat ''close''.
Can I recommend revisiting menswear BUT reference Monica Bullici in a suit. Tailored and structured but always cut to a feminine form. (Ie. Shoulders, waist and pant leg) I think SDs can kill a suit because of the yang form to our bodies just make sure it's fitted and lil sexy 😉🔥

As a SD I tend to use the high-low technique to bring the casual vibe on. I often wear tailored pants or well fitted jeans (never too tight or too loose) with a neutral t-shirt or blouse and finish it up with a pair of All Star and key accessories, such as belts, earrings, bracelets - and it works marvelously! The secret is to bring balance to the outfit, and always prefer clothes/accessories with good finishing and fabric, which is where I think Sofía kind messes up (destroyed jeans, peep toe shoes, high platform heels, tight clothes...).

When I was younger I often tried either dramatic classic or soft natural styles because being both tall and feminine I was worried about looking ‘over the top.’ Now I realize that embracing the drama doesn’t overwhelm me like it might other people, it feels and looks just right 🥰
@@TheKonnoisseur11 Short answer: -long lines (high-waisted pants or skirts, unbroken silhouettes/monochrome looks, midi skirts/dresses) -lush fabrics -off the shoulder looks (omg I cannot tell you how many compliments I get!) -sparkly or large jewelry -large, soft prints -doing 20% more with my hair and make-up so I look more “done” -generally embracing a more overtly feminine look (growing up it was not okay to be a girly girl, but secretly I might be one… who knew?) Long answer: About me - I’m a soft dramatic, winter (I can’t decide between dark and bright, not cool enough to be a true winter), romantic/classic/gamine essences. Fine, straight hair and combination/oily skin. I’m an artist and gardener, so on the one hand people accept a lot of drama from my aesthetic but I also need a more practical wardrobe as well (definitely haven’t messed with that side as much.) I feel like in the past the “drama” came off more as “eccentric” and I’m trying to move it more towards “glamorous.” Oh and I’m in my 30s so I feel like I’ve finally aged into some of the SD looks, whether that’s just a mental/personal growth thing or not I don’t know. I already had a lot to build from in my wardrobe because we tend to intuitively like styles that work with our kibbe type, but I’m styling things differently, wearing certain items more frequently, and slowly adding pieces (poshmark and etsy have been my friend.) Some things I’ve added or am doing differently: -black midi ribbed skirt from Abercrombie. I feel like the light texture of ribbed fabrics is really flattering in general. -off the shoulder bodysuit, white background with large floral print and ruffle top. As I said, off the shoulder is our friend. (I hate the phrase T-silhouette, but this is it.) -learning how to style “fancy” jewelry (mostly inherited) with casual looks: pearls, diamond earrings, etc. This was stuff I almost never wore or reserved only for special occasions, but adding a piece or two to a daywear look instantly turns something from millennial minimalist to soft dramatic casual glamor. -faux leather moto jacket I thrifted ($9!) I’d love to eventually get a real leather one that would last me forever, but I’m getting tons of compliments on this one in the meantime. What’s works as a SD: structured jacket with feminine detailing (draped front, quilted shoulders, shiny zippers) i.e., drama meets softness. -silk shirt from Quince (silk and velvet, yes please.) -actually blow drying my hair. My hair dries so quickly on its own that I was always a wash-n-go girl, but taking the two minutes to rough dry it makes my hair so sleek and polished. Plus it helps keep my roots from getting as greasy as quickly. (Don’t @ me with fine hair tips anyone, I’ve tried literally every technique/product/regimen and honestly growing my hair out long and washing/blow drying it daily - basically the opposite of most advice - is looking and feeling so much better.) I feel like you often see big curls on SDs and while I like the way it looks, I’ve found that having sleek, straight hair also fits the SD vibe and is much easier as a daily thing for me. I’m also thinking of buying a velvet hair bow (so girly?! It’s still a little strange for me) -small floral prints and small lace make me look bigger (no matter how much I’d like to be, I’m just not a petite ingénue), but large floral prints and large lace match me and still have a lot of femininity. I have a number of pieces with small prints that I love (other elements about them work really well: wrap dresses, drapey fabrics) and I’m not planning to get rid of them, but I’m trying not to buy small prints moving forward. -I’m in the market for a pair of red high-waisted palazzo/wide-legged pants. I’ve found a lot that are close, but nothing that’s exactly what I’m looking for. -hats! I’ve always known that hats look good on me, but a lot of people are not hat people (a damn shame) so I would get a lot of comments or attention and feel insecure. They’ve become somewhat more common over the last 5-10 years and I have a few in my rotation, but I’m in the market for more. I do think embracing soft dramatic style means embracing being noticed (for me at least), which I’ve done enough work around to be comfortable with at this point. -I’m definitely pulling more pieces that are in my colors and getting rid of stuff that isn’t. Just because I CAN wear a color doesn’t mean it brings out my beauty and at this point I want to feel fabulous in my clothes. So many of the recommendations out there are for very dressy occasions. Glad to see I am not the only one!
You forgot using shiny/metallic/glamorous fabrications. I have a subtle gold colored T shirt in a draped fabric that is a much better basic T for me than a regular shirt thick white T would EVER be. Also fitted tank tops work well for the same reasons. I also have sneakers with gold accents that just work because of that pop of gold. I use metallics in accessories like shoes or bags a lot as a simple way to dial up or down the level of dressiness in an outfit.
I am 5ft 7, so as far as I understand, I can only be a dramatic, a FN or a SD. I am definitely curvy so I had ruled out dramatic, but I've been tossing up so much on FN and SD especially as I have a smaller bust than most of the celebrity examples, but your Q&A videos and this one have convinced me that I'm definitely a SD! In winter, I feel like I have to throw on a big soft scarf with everything to make it look right! I feel like these recommendations fit my body perfectly, so thank you!! Loving your channel.
To be honest, I easily look overdressed or 'over the top'. Trying to wear makeup both on the eyes and the lips is an instant "where are you going?" moment, and I'm so scared of not fitting in that I don't even have my ears pierced or have any large patterns in my wardrobe. My wardrobe is like that of a DC. I'm not sure why, because when I go FULL glam, you can tell SD lines flatter me most - a long mermaid dress, full curls or hair done up all fancy, you can tell it just FITS. I look best in curve accommodation and at 5'10 I'm a certain SD. But in the day, I easily look too far out there although it looks good. And for a university student, I really struggle with that - I can't wear chunky heels or sunglasses if I need to run around campus and am carrying a large frumpy backpack. Accommodating SD at all in casual, youthful wear is so hard.
Those long cardigans look fabulous and soft on us. Wear yoga pants and athletic wear and toss one of those long knee length robe like cardigans on and it’s casual chic for SD

THIS is my body type!! I was always so confused because I have the romantic curves but the dramatic height, so I'm happy to know soft dramatic exists! I'm especially excited to try bootcut jeans again; those look amazing on Sofia. I like the tip for the collared dress shirt with a rounded hem as well... I think the softness of the fabric makes a lot of difference there too.

This video was super helpful! I was struggling between SD and FN and was recently typed as an SD. What helped it all click for me (and also mentioned in your video) is that i felt lost and invisible in loose fitting clothes. It almost felt like i was wearing pyjamas and I didn't feel chic at all. Now I understand it's because i wasn't accomodating for my curve. It's funny how we notice things but don't now how to put them into words. Your video was great :) I totally resonated with not feeling comfortable in stuff and structured clothes as well. I've always instinctively gone for outfits that have a sweep, flow or curve and also try to accentuate my waist.

Great video!! It actually made me realize that I probably am a soft dramatic. My mom has a very similar figure as mine and her style is so similar to Sofia’s and it looks really good on her! I think men also love this body type cause she always gets compliments from male strangers about her looks :)
This is the type of information that most people are missing when discovering the system! I think it’s common to confuse the BEST recommendations for the ONLY recommendations and feel like the system is a bit restrictive. But once you have information on how to utilize them with everyday clothes it opens you up to all the possibilities! I think she's over emphasised the focus on the softness here. Yes soft dramatic is softer than dramatic but is still actually one of the most Yin body types. In my opinion a SD can wear some more D or FN lines but it might look a little severe or comfy/casual/sloppy, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. And because SD has some dramatic lines to their frame it won't look as bad as it would on other types. A body type is not a style the lines for soft dramatic are long and sweeping with a T silhouette. By sticking to your lines you can achieve an optimal look but we don't necessarily need to look optimal every day or at all.
I’ve been confused about my kibbe type bc I’m 5’3” and have a distinctly defined waist and broad bony shoulders, but my long slender arms and legs keep me from making sense as a theatric romantic. Listening to this description… I think I might just be a short soft dramatic 😳 you said “it’s actually quite hard for a soft dramatic to look formal” and my jaw dropped. Every time I try to dress up for a fancy event, no matter what I wear, when I see pictures of me with others afterward I look completely underdressed in comparison! A single not-totally-formal addition makes the entire thing look casual. 🤯
I think Im a SD and my current fav casual summer outfit is black culottes pants that kinda look like a skirt + a chemise style silky top + big goth earrings + big round killstar sunglasses. I'm dressed up super fast, I can wear it in my daily life as a casual goth and I feel confident without being overdressed
This is me. Always wanted to pull off the casual looks and combat boots that look so good on other girls, but never could! Clothing has to be fitted and accentuate my curves or it doesn’t look good. Shirts have to be tucked in, or cropped. Nothing too short (never worked with my fleshy upper thighs). I’ve been a pretty low weight at times for my height, but no matter how thin I get, I never lose my curves. Everything is long and narrow (i’ve actually always struggled finding shoes that fit me well, because my feet are so narrow, and most shoes are made wide 🤷🏻♀️). Pants have to be high-waisted, and slim through the leg or bootcut/flare. Halter and off-shoulder tops work great for me for balancing out the narrow shoulders, and love a low-back dress or top. Going to try big prints now.
I'm a soft dramatic and I've subconsciously been dressing like this all my life because I own so many large cardigans, only wear round necks, and love off shoulder tight fitted shirts
ah i wasn’t sure what type i was for a while but all of this makes so much sense with me! i think i realised recently that tee shirt with a lower cut, curved neckline make me look so much better than a plain high neck tee! and the cardigans as well🙌🏻🙌🏻 all such good tips!
I made the mistake of buying a mock neck shirt as a SD, but this video was a help in deciding on a long scarf type and print to wear over it. Jeans are the toughest though for me, I can not seem to find a high enough waist and flare at the bottom! Good video very helpful

Thanks for the video, it's helpful to me as a SD, even if I don't have a style similar to Sofia. I just feel from the comments that some of the viewers might have missed the point. It doesn't matter if these outfits are dated and not quite modern, it is more about the overall lines. Also, I feel that the essences play a lot, because my essences are Ingenue, Romantic with a tiny bit of Dramatic, my face is definitely yin oriented, so when I make outfits, I need to make it look a bit "youngish", because when I dress like the usual recommendation for SD, in Diva Chic style, the lines may be good, but the impression is very off, it looks like I am pretending to be a grown-up woman (which I am btw as a 30-year-old).
Although I am not a Soft-Dramatic, (Romantic), the principles of dealing with curves were so insightful and applicable. Particularly the discussion around Sofia Vergara and the "classic" white button-up shirt. I have never been able to pull these off because of the points you mentioned--stiff fabric, too much volume. The trick of a curved hemline and softer drape would make such a difference. Thank you!

I wasn’t sure before watching but now I know for sure this is my type. I always feel best in long boho skirts and flares etc and need to hand my hair long and flowing. I was trying to work out what I should be wearing but turns out I already had some of it worked out. Btw my waist is softer and looser now after babies and it’s been making it harder to wear these styles. Now I get why that’s been such a big deal for me.
Kibbe body type is considered to be difficult but honestly as soon as I've come across this method, I've had no doubt, I'm soft dramatic! I feel so different from all the other body types, I have that long figure that often makes people think that I'm actually taller than I really am, some sharpness in my arms, some angles in my legs, but I have a big breast, soft thighs, very pronounced curves. I think that if you are a soft dramatc, you really are conscious of that! I think it's quite hard to dress for the office, as I want to be elegant but in more formal way, I work with 90% men wearing suits and being bold and very feminine is quite hard.. In general I feel good with clothes that for the other women would be "overdressing" and it can sometimes be embarrassing. I really look bad with just jeans and t-shit (i think I own 1 pair of jeans, I really can't see me in jeans), I look like Rosie the riveter... So thenks for the video.

Fantastic material! As a newly kibbed SD I totally see how intuitively I have gone for SN look when aiming to look less intimidating in own lines. Practically all my wardrobe consists of SD / SN lines, together with accessories and even make up. It is true that when you finally discover your ID it is an aha moment, like you knew it all along :)
Casual for me is a long asymmetrical tunic or a long sweater and skinny pants with boots to balance out my lower legs. I don't know how to dress casually, apparently, but the way I dress is definitely comfy as comfy can be. Even when I dress the way you recommend here - which seems to be my baseline style - I look "dressed up" and stick out like a sore thumb. Bright Winter Soft Dramatic problems... 😂
This video was spot on! My only comment to the contrary is that mini dresses can work on SDs because our legs become the vertical. For example in the photo you used of her, it works because her shoes are nude tone so her legs aren’t cut off by her shoes. Also besides low rounded necklines, deep v, or sweatheart necklines on tops (including Henley styles) look really good. Lastly I wish I knew the term of the rounded bottom edge on the button down shirt example you gave - that style in a t-shirt or raglan cotton top also looks excellent on SDs.
I just watched this and subscribed to your channel. Super helpful video. I just found out I'm a soft dramatic but without knowing it my whole life I've favoured long glamourous silhouette and Sofia Vergara is my style icon because we have similar features.
Sofia is a great example but every time she chooses low waist jeans that she looks awful in, the torso it's too big and the hips look "short", very disproportional I also would never choose the baggy white shirt. You are right, the round shape complements sd body type, but that one is too big and adds volume to the chest area, where she has volume already. Sd also has big shoulders so a bad area to wear white, since it's enlarged. If had to be white, then choose something more fitted, maybe with a bouffant sleeve that complements her body shape is very dramatic and makes the shirt look less "stiff". My choice would be a shirt with more round details, but fitted to make my curves show, the softness in SOFT dramatic. Makes more sense to me
It's interesting that something casual in soft dramatic , when theatrical romantic take some tips of it, either looks sloppy (especially if you dress only with soft dramatic recommendations) or looking bold and striking (pick some recommendations or pick some recommendations and make some twist to suit tr body type)
My mom is a gamine and for most of my life she dressed me as a gamine or gifted me gamine items - horizontal stripes, little polka dots, little cropped trousers, tiny little pearl earrings, and I would stand next to her and I looked like a clown. A massive clown 😅 even in my 20s I wore a lot of her hand-me-downs (generally way too small/tight) and it just always looked like a costume. Only now at 34 I’ve discovered I was a soft dramatic!! Makes sense because my dad is a dramatic (extremely tall, narrow, angular, sharp) and I take after him / his side of the family way more. Now I am truly discovering my personal style and what looks best on me for the first time in life! 🤯😍🙏 thank you Ellie Jean!

@@TheKonnoisseur11 I end up just sticking to semi fitted shirts and high waisted bottoms of some kind. Whenever I try to wear tshirts, or anything too loose on top, especially if it's got a stiffer fabric, I seem to look frumpy.
@@cocoacoolness I can absolutely understand your struggles. I think I've found a solution for the top part with deep v/wide v necklines, better if made of a soft knit that is a bit loose, this way there's draping starting from my shoulder. also wrap tops or with that crossed effect, again it's better if it's fluid/light knit. I was able to find a few brand that have a lot of these options and I stick with them. I'm still working on the bottoms!

@@cocoacoolness I don't know where you're located but they're all European brands. Intimissimi (italian lingerie brand) for the wrap tops in cashmere mix, Promod (french) for the deep v soft knits, MbyM (danish) for wrap tops as well. They're all quite affordable
The problem I have with this is that I feel like Sofia Vegaras style is not very "current"? It reminds me a lot of late 00s early 10s. I'd love to see you do style videos based on the hot influencers at the moment, like matilds djerf, Emma chamberlain and so on- I find it a lot easier to resonate with their style and I think this might help with typing a lot of younger people interested in Kibbe xxx

I knowww, right? When I look for references there are always only old Hollywood actresses, or women over 35. Which is fine, it still helps with the overall outline of the outfit, but I would love to steal an inspo from current fashion icons, such as Rihanna.
Look for inspiration in Tracee Ellis Ross - she's a SD and she's very bold and current with her styles. Also, we always have to understand that not every trend will be compatible with our type and especially with SD - this type has this specific "maturity" and "timelessness" about it, do it's really hard to look very trendy, imo.

A thing about being soft dramatic that i cant explain to anyone:
I always feel too put together, even when i try to look undone and i dont put effort in it but i cant look casual and sporty, i always look elegant and posed. I mean its not that bad of a thing but sometimes i would love that wildy and chilled back and undone look, that feminine in a less glamourous way.

I went clothes shopping today and for the first time, when I looked in the mirror I didn’t judge my body and get frustrated at why my body didn’t look right in the outfits. Instead, I used your words to describe why the clothes weren’t right for me. As a 40-year-old, I can tell you this was a life changing mindset. I didn’t tell myself I was too fat or tall or broad. Kind of such a weird contradiction how a soft dramatic actually needs glamour to look casual! But I get it and I think it was you who said that soft dramatics can look boring and plain if they skip the glamour. It’s a new concept for me as a sd I think cos I’m a pretty low key person living in a VERY non glamorous country (New Zealand) so what I’ve always observe around me is super casual. So I am learning that not only can I carry those glamorous details but I really actually need them! I feel like my outfits have improved 100 percent since I started watching your videos! That's actually so funny to think about because I've noticed that when I really want to dress comfy kind of like sweatpants outfit, if I put on a sick pair of earrings somehow I look way better 😂 it's so easy for me to look frumpy but for some reason putting in a nice pair of earrings rather, it be smaller, large but as long as it's rounded and a bit sparkly the outfit is a lot more forgiving to the eye 😂

I deeply appreciate this video. Finding that casual sweet spot for an SD is so hard. It took me a while to understand what you meant about needing glam to elevate to casual but then it clicked! I've always known that with my body type there are so many things other people can wear and look casual but if I wear them I look frumpy and shlubby! Got it! On the other end of the spectrum, totally regular dresses on me can look like I'm trying to bombshell it out when I'm just trying to find something to go to a wedding. Thanks so much for addressing these challenges. It's the first time I've seen these challenges named and addressed!

Oh, boy. I was once a 5'7" soft dramatic 13-yr-old and had such a hard time finding clothes. I experimented with every style I could and felt the best in glamorous vintage dresses but never really figured out casual clothes. I wish I'd had this advice. @@alexba1ley I am a 5'7'' SD too lol I have known about Kibbe for 4 years by now, but yeah would have saved me from thinking why I looked really bad with a white shirt and dark pants or vice versa and many other fashion questions. I still wear light pants with a darker shirt though as it accentuates my bottom heavy body and I have finally embraced it

I love this! The shirt thing spoke to my soul. As someone inspired by French fashion, I spent SO years not getting why the ''classic white shirt'' (and a lot of menswear inspired ''classic'' clothes) looked absolutely awful on me (Soft Dramatic/Dark Autumn, probably the worst clothing item for me lol).
I'd love to see a video on borrowing lines from other types like you exemplified with the flowing FN skirts. For SD I often see recommendations about borrowing from FN and TR, but I'm particularly interested about borrowing from SN, since I feel SN clothes are easier to find in casual wear as well and the types feel somewhat ''close''.
Can I recommend revisiting menswear BUT reference Monica Bullici in a suit. Tailored and structured but always cut to a feminine form. (Ie. Shoulders, waist and pant leg) I think SDs can kill a suit because of the yang form to our bodies just make sure it's fitted and lil sexy 😉🔥
I can wear a classic white shirt but it needs to be tucked into a high waist skirt or trouser. Plus heels. Otherwise frumpy/too Yang.

Thank you so much for this! I feel like I either dress 100% glamour, feminine, or bold, or I'm in baggy t-shirts and shorts, which never look as effortlessly cute on me. It's great to have some new ideas for casual looks. I'm always wearing large, usually rounded, earrings too! They are my favorites by far 💙
As a SD I tend to use the high-low technique to bring the casual vibe on. I often wear tailored pants or well fitted jeans (never too tight or too loose) with a neutral t-shirt or blouse and finish it up with a pair of All Star and key accessories, such as belts, earrings, bracelets - and it works marvelously! The secret is to bring balance to the outfit, and always prefer clothes/accessories with good finishing and fabric, which is where I think Sofía kind messes up (destroyed jeans, peep toe shoes, high platform heels, tight clothes...).
Thank you so much for this video! The insight that you need some of that glamour/boldness to match you is gold. When I was younger I often tried either dramatic classic or soft natural styles because being both tall and feminine I was worried about looking ‘over the top.’ Now I realize that embracing the drama doesn’t overwhelm me like it might other people, it feels and looks just right 🥰

-off the shoulder looks (omg I cannot tell you how many compliments I get!)
-sparkly or large jewelry
-large, soft prints
-doing 20% more with my hair and make-up so I look more “done”
-generally embracing a more overtly feminine look (growing up it was not okay to be a girly girl, but secretly I might be one… who knew?)
Long answer:
About me - I’m a soft dramatic, winter (I can’t decide between dark and bright, not cool enough to be a true winter), romantic/classic/gamine essences. Fine, straight hair and combination/oily skin. I’m an artist and gardener, so on the one hand people accept a lot of drama from my aesthetic but I also need a more practical wardrobe as well (definitely haven’t messed with that side as much.) I feel like in the past the “drama” came off more as “eccentric” and I’m trying to move it more towards “glamorous.” Oh and I’m in my 30s so I feel like I’ve finally aged into some of the SD looks, whether that’s just a mental/personal growth thing or not I don’t know.
I already had a lot to build from in my wardrobe because we tend to intuitively like styles that work with our kibbe type, but I’m styling things differently, wearing certain items more frequently, and slowly adding pieces (poshmark and etsy have been my friend.)
Some things I’ve added or am doing differently:
-black midi ribbed skirt from Abercrombie. I feel like the light texture of ribbed fabrics is really flattering in general.
-off the shoulder bodysuit, white background with large floral print and ruffle top. As I said, off the shoulder is our friend. (I hate the phrase T-silhouette, but this is it.)
-learning how to style “fancy” jewelry (mostly inherited) with casual looks: pearls, diamond earrings, etc. This was stuff I almost never wore or reserved only for special occasions, but adding a piece or two to a daywear look instantly turns something from millennial minimalist to soft dramatic casual glamor.
-faux leather moto jacket I thrifted ($9!) I’d love to eventually get a real leather one that would last me forever, but I’m getting tons of compliments on this one in the meantime. What’s works as a SD: structured jacket with feminine detailing (draped front, quilted shoulders, shiny zippers) i.e., drama meets softness.
-silk shirt from Quince (silk and velvet, yes please.)
-actually blow drying my hair. My hair dries so quickly on its own that I was always a wash-n-go girl, but taking the two minutes to rough dry it makes my hair so sleek and polished. Plus it helps keep my roots from getting as greasy as quickly. (Don’t @ me with fine hair tips anyone, I’ve tried literally every technique/product/regimen and honestly growing my hair out long and washing/blow drying it daily - basically the opposite of most advice - is looking and feeling so much better.) I feel like you often see big curls on SDs and while I like the way it looks, I’ve found that having sleek, straight hair also fits the SD vibe and is much easier as a daily thing for me. I’m also thinking of buying a velvet hair bow (so girly?! It’s still a little strange for me)
-small floral prints and small lace make me look bigger (no matter how much I’d like to be, I’m just not a petite ingénue), but large floral prints and large lace match me and still have a lot of femininity. I have a number of pieces with small prints that I love (other elements about them work really well: wrap dresses, drapey fabrics) and I’m not planning to get rid of them, but I’m trying not to buy small prints moving forward.
-I’m in the market for a pair of red high-waisted palazzo/wide-legged pants. I’ve found a lot that are close, but nothing that’s exactly what I’m looking for.
-hats! I’ve always known that hats look good on me, but a lot of people are not hat people (a damn shame) so I would get a lot of comments or attention and feel insecure. They’ve become somewhat more common over the last 5-10 years and I have a few in my rotation, but I’m in the market for more. I do think embracing soft dramatic style means embracing being noticed (for me at least), which I’ve done enough work around to be comfortable with at this point.
-I’m definitely pulling more pieces that are in my colors and getting rid of stuff that isn’t. Just because I CAN wear a color doesn’t mean it brings out my beauty and at this point I want to feel fabulous in my clothes. I feel like this comes up a lot in the comments on this channel (“harmonious” vs “creating an effect”) I feel lucky that I’m a winter bc the high contrast really suits the SD vibe.

Yes the T sillohette is real. Instead of hiding your shoulders you embrace them and I’ve seen it work for celebs like Wendy Williams

You forgot using shiny/metallic/glamorous fabrications. I have a subtle gold colored T shirt in a draped fabric that is a much better basic T for me than a regular shirt thick white T would EVER be. Also fitted tank tops work well for the same reasons. I also have sneakers with gold accents that just work because of that pop of gold.
I use metallics in accessories like shoes or bags a lot as a simple way to dial up or down the level of dressiness in an outfit.
I am 5ft 7, so as far as I understand, I can only be a dramatic, a FN or a SD. I am definitely curvy so I had ruled out dramatic, but I've been tossing up so much on FN and SD especially as I have a smaller bust than most of the celebrity examples, but your Q&A videos and this one have convinced me that I'm definitely a SD! In winter, I feel like I have to throw on a big soft scarf with everything to make it look right! I feel like these recommendations fit my body perfectly, so thank you!! Loving your channel.
To be honest, I easily look overdressed or 'over the top'. Trying to wear makeup both on the eyes and the lips is an instant "where are you going?" moment, and I'm so scared of not fitting in that I don't even have my ears pierced or have any large patterns in my wardrobe. My wardrobe is like that of a DC. I'm not sure why, because when I go FULL glam, you can tell SD lines flatter me most - a long mermaid dress, full curls or hair done up all fancy, you can tell it just FITS. I look best in curve accommodation and at 5'10 I'm a certain SD. But in the day, I easily look too far out there although it looks good. And for a university student, I really struggle with that - I can't wear chunky heels or sunglasses if I need to run around campus and am carrying a large frumpy backpack. Accommodating SD at all in casual, youthful wear is so hard.
Those long cardigans look fabulous and soft on us. Wear yoga pants and athletic wear and toss one of those long knee length robe like cardigans on and it’s casual chic for SD
@@tula1433 I'm a bit conservative, so I don't like dressing in athletic wear on a daily basis. I assume the right skinny jeans would do the same job, though.

THIS is my body type!! I was always so confused because I have the romantic curves but the dramatic height, so I'm happy to know soft dramatic exists! I'm especially excited to try bootcut jeans again; those look amazing on Sofia. I like the tip for the collared dress shirt with a rounded hem as well... I think the softness of the fabric makes a lot of difference there too.

This video was super helpful! I was struggling between SD and FN and was recently typed as an SD. What helped it all click for me (and also mentioned in your video) is that i felt lost and invisible in loose fitting clothes. It almost felt like i was wearing pyjamas and I didn't feel chic at all. Now I understand it's because i wasn't accomodating for my curve. It's funny how we notice things but don't now how to put them into words. Your video was great :) I totally resonated with not feeling comfortable in stuff and structured clothes as well. I've always instinctively gone for outfits that have a sweep, flow or curve and also try to accentuate my waist.

I think it’s common to confuse the BEST recommendations for the ONLY recommendations and feel like the system is a bit restrictive. But once you have information on how to utilize them with everyday clothes it opens you up to all the possibilities! I think she's over emphasised the focus on the softness here. Yes soft dramatic is softer than dramatic but is still actually one of the most Yin body types. In my opinion a SD can wear some more D or FN lines but it might look a little severe or comfy/casual/sloppy, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. And because SD has some dramatic lines to their frame it won't look as bad as it would on other types.
A body type is not a style the lines for soft dramatic are long and sweeping with a T silhouette. By sticking to your lines you can achieve an optimal look but we don't necessarily need to look optimal every day or at all.
I’ve been confused about my kibbe type bc I’m 5’3” and have a distinctly defined waist and broad bony shoulders, but my long slender arms and legs keep me from making sense as a theatric romantic. Listening to this description… I think I might just be a short soft dramatic 😳

Every time I try to dress up for a fancy event, no matter what I wear, when I see pictures of me with others afterward I look completely underdressed in comparison! I think Im a SD and my current fav casual summer outfit is black culottes pants that kinda look like a skirt + a chemise style silky top + big goth earrings + big round killstar sunglasses. I'm dressed up super fast, I can wear it in my daily life as a casual goth and I feel confident without being overdressed
This is me. Always wanted to pull off the casual looks and combat boots that look so good on other girls, but never could! Clothing has to be fitted and accentuate my curves or it doesn’t look good. Shirts have to be tucked in, or cropped. Nothing too short (never worked with my fleshy upper thighs). I’ve been a pretty low weight at times for my height, but no matter how thin I get, I never lose my curves. Everything is long and narrow (i’ve actually always struggled finding shoes that fit me well, because my feet are so narrow, and most shoes are made wide 🤷🏻♀️). Pants have to be high-waisted, and slim through the leg or bootcut/flare. Halter and off-shoulder tops work great for me for balancing out the narrow shoulders, and love a low-back dress or top. Going to try big prints now.

I'm a soft dramatic and I've subconsciously been dressing like this all my life because I own so many large cardigans, only wear round necks, and love off shoulder tight fitted shirts
ah i wasn’t sure what type i was for a while but all of this makes so much sense with me! i think i realised recently that tee shirt with a lower cut, curved neckline make me look so much better than a plain high neck tee! and the cardigans as well🙌🏻🙌🏻

I made the mistake of buying a mock neck shirt as a SD, but this video was a help in deciding on a long scarf type and print to wear over it. Jeans are the toughest though for me, I can not seem to find a high enough waist and flare at the bottom! Good video very helpful

Thanks for the video, it's helpful to me as a SD, even if I don't have a style similar to Sofia. I just feel from the comments that some of the viewers might have missed the point. It doesn't matter if these outfits are dated and not quite modern, it is more about the overall lines. Also, I feel that the essences play a lot, because my essences are Ingenue, Romantic with a tiny bit of Dramatic, my face is definitely yin oriented, so when I make outfits, I need to make it look a bit "youngish", because when I dress like the usual recommendation for SD, in Diva Chic style, the lines may be good, but the impression is very off, it looks like I am pretending to be a grown-up woman (which I am btw as a 30-year-old).
Although I am not a Soft-Dramatic, (Romantic), the principles of dealing with curves were so insightful and applicable. Particularly the discussion around Sofia Vergara and the "classic" white button-up shirt. I have never been able to pull these off because of the points you mentioned--stiff fabric, too much volume. The trick of a curved hemline and softer drape would make such a difference. Thank you!

I wasn’t sure before watching but now I know for sure this is my type. I always feel best in long boho skirts and flares etc and need to hand my hair long and flowing. I was trying to work out what I should be wearing but turns out I already had some of it worked out. Btw my waist is softer and looser now after babies and it’s been making it harder to wear these styles. Now I get why that’s been such a big deal for me.
For this soft dramatic I think waist emphasize is key 🔑✨
Kibbe body type is considered to be difficult but honestly as soon as I've come across this method, I've had no doubt, I'm soft dramatic! I feel so different from all the other body types, I have that long figure that often makes people think that I'm actually taller than I really am, some sharpness in my arms, some angles in my legs, but I have a big breast, soft thighs, very pronounced curves. I think that if you are a soft dramatc, you really are conscious of that! I think it's quite hard to dress for the office, as I want to be elegant but in more formal way, I work with 90% men wearing suits and being bold and very feminine is quite hard.. In general I feel good with clothes that for the other women would be "overdressing" and it can sometimes be embarrassing. I really look bad with just jeans and t-shit (i think I own 1 pair of jeans, I really can't see me in jeans), I look like Rosie the riveter... So thenks for the video.
Personally I also notice that my hands are long and kinda shard and as you said I also have an hourglass naturally and people always think I am taller than my actual height

Fantastic material! As a newly kibbed SD I totally see how intuitively I have gone for SN look when aiming to look less intimidating in own lines. Practically all my wardrobe consists of SD / SN lines, together with accessories and even make up. It is true that when you finally discover your ID it is an aha moment, like you knew it all along :)

Casual for me is a long asymmetrical tunic or a long sweater and skinny pants with boots to balance out my lower legs. I don't know how to dress casually, apparently, but the way I dress is definitely comfy as comfy can be.
Even when I dress the way you recommend here - which seems to be my baseline style - I look "dressed up" and stick out like a sore thumb.

This video was spot on! My only comment to the contrary is that mini dresses can work on SDs because our legs become the vertical. For example in the photo you used of her, it works because her shoes are nude tone so her legs aren’t cut off by her shoes.
Also besides low rounded necklines, deep v, or sweatheart necklines on tops (including Henley styles) look really good.
Lastly I wish I knew the term of the rounded bottom edge on the button down shirt example you gave - that style in a t-shirt or raglan cotton top also looks excellent on SDs.
I’m stuck because I like a more masculine punk style, but I think your tips about draping soft scarves will work

Sofia is a great example but every time she chooses low waist jeans that she looks awful in, the torso it's too big and the hips look "short", very disproportional
I also would never choose the baggy white shirt. You are right, the round shape complements sd body type, but that one is too big and adds volume to the chest area, where she has volume already. Sd also has big shoulders so a bad area to wear white, since it's enlarged. If had to be white, then choose something more fitted, maybe with a bouffant sleeve that complements her body shape is very dramatic and makes the shirt look less "stiff".
My choice would be a shirt with more round details, but fitted to make my curves show, the softness in SOFT dramatic. Makes more sense to me

It's interesting that something casual in soft dramatic , when theatrical romantic take some tips of it, either looks sloppy (especially if you dress only with soft dramatic recommendations) or looking bold and striking (pick some recommendations or pick some recommendations and make some twist to suit tr body type)

My mom is a gamine and for most of my life she dressed me as a gamine or gifted me gamine items - horizontal stripes, little polka dots, little cropped trousers, tiny little pearl earrings, and I would stand next to her and I looked like a clown. A massive clown 😅 even in my 20s I wore a lot of her hand-me-downs (generally way too small/tight) and it just always looked like a costume. Only now at 34 I’ve discovered I was a soft dramatic!! Makes sense because my dad is a dramatic (extremely tall, narrow, angular, sharp) and I take after him / his side of the family way more. Now I am truly discovering my personal style and what looks best on me for the first time in life! 🤯😍🙏 thank you Ellie Jean!
