- My car has quite a few problems. These are the ten I hate the most. Hopefully I can fix most of them in the future, but there is still a long list of work that needs to be done.

You don't need high octane gas. It's recommended. Not required.
Actually you do the car ticks and you can hear the valves due to poor gas its premium only 91 or higher octane ive had one so I would know how it reacts to low quality gas
My 2003 Nissan sentra Rtype doesn't say that. I run regular in mine but I do put in Lucas injection cleaner in every fill up. Seems to help. You hate the mileage. I figured mine and it was 16 mpg in city. Changed the plugs and coil packs going to check again and will let you know.

Another great video. Everything you pointed at is the same with my 2003 nissan sentra Rtype. Except the 4 speed mines an automatic and its great. Don't get me wrong love a 4 speed fun to drive but suck in traffic. Power steering mine leaked also so I said screw it. 80 bucks for just one pressure hose CRAZY! For anyone that watched this video and say no to this car you missed the part where he said he loves his car. Better find one and buy it they are worth the small things that MAY need fixing.

Addressing the motor mounts will also improve the shifting. My 03 spec shifts wonderfully, nothing like what you describe, but I run the poly motor mount inserts and the 2J turcite shifter bushings. Worn/torn motor mounts and shifter bushing are probably causing your shifting complaints. definably fixable though.
+Erik Moore Yeah I am definitely planning a 2J order in the future, for now if I launch from a dig you can feel the engine slam forward with each shift. Until that's fixed it's just one gear roll races for me.
The motor mount inserts are a god send and absolutely necessary.
My car when I got it my buddy said it needed motor mounts. The motor was jumping up when on the brake and pushing on the gas. Another friend said there is one mount in it. I went an bought all three so I'm going to get them all put in.
Found a 06 spec V.. 166k on the clock.. Very clean.

I had an '03. I loved it when it ran. I remember the turning radius being awful. My precat melted, my transmission was really notchy, and torque steer made left turns fun. The thing that did it in was a screw from the intake manifold getting sucked up into the engine. This was due to an assembly defect that Nissan refused to admit to until after I traded it in. Despite all that, it was a really fun car. But my sunroof worked.

Where can I get that shift knob
Get some solid motor mounts to fix the engine movement and broken intake. You only need the lower mounts really. You'll be feeling the vibration more but it's worth it if performance is your goal.
My biggest issue is the cup holders... They're ridiculously small and shallow. If you have a drink and take a corner to hard, get ready to spill.
You can find a set of motor mounts on eBay for about $60. They're a pain to swap but possible to diy with the scissor jack, some 14mm or 17mm sockets (I can't remember), a block of wood, a hammer, a saw/grinder (to remove the old ones), and some grease. A table vice would've made the job easier. Keep it running and good luck!

I fixed my sunroof never again will have a problem, and Auto open and tilt feature :) It doesn't only take Premium but I'm glad you're using it :) (I only use Prem), Did you change your Clutch/ Fly wheel out, I don't have Floating Rev's...(you need to get a tq damper for your engine)... This is how I fixed my Power steering leak... Lucas, AT-205 Reseal and GM Dexron 6 give it a year. You will notice no more leaking..

I just wrecked my 03 Sentra spec v. It’s not totaled but the rims and tires are toast.
Oh yeah, I forgot. My clutch throw-out bering had to be replaced less then 6 months in. They did replace that under warranty.
My 88 z31 is aztec red as well. It's actually a pretty old colour option from Nissan.

Torque damper fixes the garbage motor mounts. Put one on my 04 Spec V and never looked back. Wheel hop is a thing of the past.
my car is leaking from the power steering rack as well,the shop put some stop leak in it and luckily it's holding up ok

your shift problem might be your clutch pedal bracket. its cheap and flexes and cracks mine did that until i pulled it out welded it and readjusted the pedal

I bought a silver 03 spec-v a year and a half ago. Car had 125k on it, it was a two owner vehicle. I purchased it for $3200, I’ve put on 30k, the only major issue was I had to replace a rear brake caliper... other than that it passed the state inspection and emissions without issue. love my car! And I totally agree about the shifting, it’s weirdest when moving from fourth to fifth, it’s like it gets pulled into a dead next to fifth gear sometimes
Jackie Treehorn make sure you do the butterfly screws and change the header for after market one. If you do not fix those two things your engine will throw the ghost
I replaced the bushings on the throws of my gearbox ( shifter links) and it made the shifter feel like new
It wasnt on this car it was on a 06 eclipse
But the trick is still the same

Wow, thanks dude, been driving a Celica for the last 10 years, was thinking of maybe making a switch, Sentra Spec V or Mazda Protege mp3, guess the Sentra is a no go, just worried about the Mazda being a rust bucket, maybe drive the Celica another 10 yrs, but am getting a little bored with it

+adrian blanco Yeah, sometimes I manage to grind third before I even let the clutch out. My synchros couldn't care less after 190K on the tranny. It's tough as nails, but the wear shows.

put 87 gas in my 02 ser and 03 spec-v. no issues really. now for best performance yeah premium but for day to day plain old 87 is fine

You bought a clapped out Sentra man, that's your main problem lol.
Why do you put premium? I put regular in mine and no problems.
The Spec V can run on regular but it's not recommend since it has to pull timing and dump in more fuel. The owner's manual only advises filling up with it if it's the only option, because if you decide to floor it with regular gas then detonation is a possibility. Since the QR25 is an interference engine, then that wouldn't end pretty.

you need new motor mounts dont go for the solid one will feel too much vibrations just get your self a nice set of oem mounts and your car should stop all that engine movement

Pretty stupid, it says it's recommended premium fuel not required. And you worry too much of small thing. My SE-R is a lot better and well taken care of. 2004 is the best one hands down. Your Car just sucks. And your using a plastic pipe or pvc. You must use a steel plowed pipe for the intake. I haven't had a single problem with mine. So guys, don't let this video ruin this car reputation.

Gearshift agreed. Might have to replace resistance points in the transmission connector.
Plastic sunroof gears. Nice. Nissan is brilliant. Just go online and order a metal gear with the same amount of pinions.
My Passat gets like 30 MPG.
Agree with the hood. My friend's dads F-Type R has a super long hood and a slim windshield so you can't even see traffic lights in front.
Oh your RPMs stay. My Passat does that but it's a 6SA (automatic). The gear ratios are like a manual- very spaced out gears- but it's automatic.
Harness straps that you can bolt into the engine can help.
Power steering leak is no good man.

+Tolu Olanipekun That's true, the car has seen a lot of use, but in some areas even compared to my brother's 2001 Civic, the paint is simply thicker and better on his car, and even at 175,000 miles on his original transmission he has no gear grinding or synchro issues with the transmission. Honda gave the Civics triple cone synchros early on while the Spec V only got them in the post refresh models (04-06). I agree with you, but I am basing my complaints off of comparable cars that my friends and family own. I even know a guy with a 260,000 mile Saturn Ion, and his paint is still better than mine. But hey, if I didn't have problems, I wouldn't have videos.

I put a greedy catback evo 2 exhaust on my 04 spec v years ago. If I end up with another spec v soon, I'll be doing that again. it sounded amazing. I just hope the spec v I find doesn't have as many problems as yours but it does only cost 2300 so there may be issues the guy isn't telling me.
+Miadous They are often abused, got mine for $2200 with a bad ECU and blown radiator. If you care for them though, they're great cars, and the forums are actually really helpful.
I'm suppose to talk to a guy tonight with a 03 spec priced at $2,300 but nothing negative like that is listed in the ad so I wonder if he'll even tell me anything over the phone. It's 2 hours away from me so that'd be bad to drive there and then find out the major issues. Here's to hoping for the best! If I end up getting another spec I'll follow you along on the rebuilding of the spec V journey haha.

ri$erboi I didn't mean as a drift project unless you are into that. I meant as a daily. Could be a daily drifter whatever, get it clean as your channel grows and so on. It has more content to be created on than a Sentra. Doesn't have to be a 240 either (although I'm biased towards that, it's my dream car) and you could get to work on it since you said you are mechanic inclined. +UJCD Good to see fans from across the globe, and I do like 240s as well, but I will keep the Sentra for as long as I can because it is my first car and there's a lot of good stuff about it that you have to drive the car to understand. Also there are plenty of tuning companies that support this car and the B15 platform. 2j racing is built off of Sentra upgrade parts, and OBX, Megan racing, Fidanza and so many other companies have parts as well. I'll build up on the Sentra with time but with enough support another car might be possible as long as I can pay for it, the storage, and insurance.
