Its so cool someone has love for the V. I bought mine brand new in 03. This car has taught me a lot and still enjoy it today. Although its not a fully built sr20 this motor is awesome with just bolt ons. There isnt a car on the road that can hang dollar for dollar. I have taken so many honda/acura badges with my Spec I lost count. So cheers and keep that Spec togather.

@Critical Cheeze Umm slow? Please, name one car that could out perform a SPEC V, brand new, out the door for $17K in 2003. The Spec Vs beat everything in its price range at the time. It would beat V6 Mustangs, V6 Camaros of that era in both straight line and handling, It would murder Civic Si's and still give stock SRT-4s, VW GTIs and the RSX Type S a run for their money. All of which cost thousands of dollars more! lmao

I loved the se-r because of my brother. When I was 14 years old. He had the 1991 Sentra se-r. These were the times when Honda ruled the streets. The year was when the fast and furious came out. Mostly every teen and adults in my town had 99 civics si, integra gsr, crx and preludes. Nissans weren’t very popular and my brother told me to never followed the crowd and be different. When he got a brand new 2002 ser spec v he immediately modded it with DC header, HOT shot performance cold air intake, eibach springs, apexi ws2 exhaust.he gave me his 1991 se-r till it overheated and messed up the motor so I had to junk it. The spec v was a beast of it time it was torquey. It beat a lot of the 99 civic si and integra gsr out there. I ended up getting a spec v of my own when I was 23 years old. I had an 05 ser spec v with the ugly fascia. Literally the same mods as my brother except my wheels were better I had Nismo wheels and brembo brakes and my intake was a fujita cai. I loved it great car for auto x, love the responsiveness of the qr25 but it was short lived the car had limitations it lack high end power. I was losing to prelude h22, rsx type s and Celtics GTS. I came a long way from the spec v to a couple of 350z, g37 coupe/sedans, g35 sedan, q50 3.7 now I have a q60 red sport. We still have my brothers spec v in the garage. I am currently doing a serpentine belt, alternator, motor mounts. Just did the sparks and coils.
I will be daily driving it due to the gas prices right now hahaha it’s crazy that it uses premium gasoline.

She pulled up in yes a yellow 2003 sentra se. I thought she got it for her but then she handed me the title and keys. Brought a tear to my eye. I am so blessed to have great kids. When I drove it my chin hit the floorboard. The car jumps up to 100 in secs. and rides like you're doing 50. Since it was free going to start fixing a few small things. I bought a 2002 new as the first car that was actually MY car - same red color as yours. Awesome car that's tons of fun. I really enjoyed it and while the QR wasn't necessarily the easiest platform for FI, it responded nicely to bolt-ons and these bolt-ons were cheap even back when the car was pretty new. By the time it was wrecked, I had added a HotShot intake, ported intake, AEBS header, MR downpipe, Stromung catback, pulleys, JWT cams, removed the balancer shaft, short shift kit, rear sway bar, lower tie bar, the NISMO damper kit, added stiffer motor mounts, threw on 225 Pilot Sport 2's, tuned using a Super AFC 2, and added carbon fiber hood, skirts, spats, and a lip, HIDs, full audio system (sub and dedicated mids/highs, each with a dedicated JL amp), Pioneer Elite touchscreen (which was pretty rare back then as the iPhone was still half a decade away) (edit-and oh yeah, the Loctite mod to the butterfly valve screws!) To this day I miss it as it is the only car I ever modified that extensively, so it was truly an extension of my personality. The 2002-2003 is IMO the coolest styling year of the platform, although admittedly I am biased.

I own a 2004, and it's original owner. I have done just about everything you can do to this car throughout its 16 year lifetime, and I still drive it on the weekends. I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked directly by shop owners to sell this this vehicle. I agree with you somewhat with aftermarket performance parts; however, we are plagued with "discontinued" parts issues. Lots of kids turning 1.8 S and 2.5 S shells into Spec V conversions have literally dried up used parts. The transmission alone is highly sought after itself. Let me know if you ever get tired of your Spec if the transmission is decent I'll take it from you.

Guys, just FYI, Nissan redesigned the head gasket for the B16 SPEC V in 2007 with 3 layers of steel around the cylinders, instead of just 2 in the B15 SPEC V. The 2 head gaskets are interchangeable, all you have to do is drill an oil drain hole in the B16 head gasket and install it on the B15, this will resolve the B15's head gasket issue.
It's a simple solution for when the original head gasket eventually fails.
As far as the oil burning, most of it was a result of poor attention to detail during the assembly process, keep in mind that the USDM QR25 was assembled in Mexico(Not Japan) It was pretty much a crap shoot whether you got a good one or not. Back when these cars were in their hay day, B15 enthusiasts would tear these engines apart and find piston rings not clocked correctly (ring gaps lined up) and cylinder walls not honed properly etc..This and the pre cat issue were to blame for the oil consumption. I had a local machine shop assemble one of these engines years ago with factory Nissan internals and piston rings paired with the 2007 B16 head gasket and aftermarket (catless header). That engine didn't burn a drop of oil in between oil changes. Yes, not a single drop in 5K miles.

The biggest problems with these cars are the aftermarket is unbelievably niche compared to other cars. Along with that, the stock engines cannot make past some 300 horsepower without needing internal mods. It limits things to an extent and it's made worse considering the community for these cars online is all but dead outside guys like this.

The hydroulic clutch snapped in 2 places, and the mech had to weld it since we couldn't find a replacement right then, and now it's like sticking or something? Sometimes it runs perfect, then other times it is like the clutch is still slightly depressed or the car RPMs I can run it out higher per gear and it putts putts a bit, intermittendely. I wish a person that loves these lived near me. Frustrated. Trying to love the car, it's hard.

currently shopping like crazy for a good sub $4k car to be my daily. looking at eclipse gt, sentra spec v, scion tc, bmw 325i, rsx type s with higher mileage or rebuilt title. I had an 04 spec v a few years ago rebuilt title was hit in the front. worst experience ever with the gas pedal going into "limp" mode while driving becoming completely unresponsive. could happen at red light or cruising at 60. luckily, I avoided any serious accidents it could've caused, but has really made me weary of owning another spec v. Loved the car when it worked though, very fun.

+Miadous My bet is that it could be throttle body or throttle position sensor in the pedal. In my opinion the EP3 Civic Si and the Spec V are probably some of the easiest and cheapest fun cars to work on.

Both of those things were replaced. Along with numerous other sensors, ecm, and other things. It was at 4 different shops for several months and several hundred dollars spent. It was never 100% fixed for sure, I just found someone else that wanted to deal with it and got rid of it. It was previously wrecked in the front and I believe it was rebuilt by two amateur mechanics that I bought it from and had some wiring issues somewhere.

  • @christopherwilliams9418

RE: "front wheel drive underdogs"... PT Cruiser turbo. Underdoggiest of the underdogs. It's LITERALLY a rebodied SRT-4 (Well, a 2003 SRT-4 anyways) and people still turn their noses up at it. Parts are cheap and AFAIK anything you can put on an SRT-4 will fit on the PT.
The only problems I can see with it are that the looks are polarizing (Personally I like it, and think the 2005+ bumpers look a LOT nicer) and that the engine bay is a little cramped.

    • @rierboiwithans
      @rierboiwithans  Před 7 lety +1

+Christopher Williams I agree 5000%. Same with the Chevy HHR SS, it was a rebodied Cobalt SS. Both of those cars are incredible and just like with mine people don't know about them and just think we slapped badges on a normal car. People underestimate the power and fun you can have with FWD cars.

HOW? I mean technically is the same subframe so, I figured the front posts may be the same, but i don't know, i don't know if someone has done this exchange in the past, i like the 02 front end.
    now some points:
    the good:
    >you can feel the torque!! the tranny is quite strong and you WILL have torque steer so be careful.
    >decent acceleration
    >6 gears forward and reverse.
    >the stock muffler sounds beast.
    >there is a book as to how to convert this car to high performance for about 14 Dlls out there.
    the Bad:
    >for the 2300 dlls I paid, it "eats" oil and burns oil really bad, (170,XXX miles on the engine).
    >the parts to truly convert it into high performance, are very expensive compared to other JDM heroes out there (AKA Civic).
    >the curb weight of the car is not great ( 2700 pounds).
    >unlike the other JDM cars out there.. you WILL have to read a lot in order to find the answer you are looking for referring to performance and compatibility with the other engines.
    >the QR25DE is one of the most hated engines for tunning (compared to the SR20de)
    >there are a lot more parts for the SR20 than for the QR25 engines.
so far that is my personal experience with this car, overall I like the handling, it is very responsive and tight, and the interior is not horrible, the car has a semi-sporty look. I like how it looks and I committed to moving forward with my JDM project despite all the negative feedback from people I know. all I want people to say is...
did that Nissan Sentra just smoked me on the highway???

Don't be like that dude, every brand has its merits.
      A. VW is the most affordable Euro brand. (Any BMW or Mercedes for under $5k is probably a bucket)
      B. They sell one of four Euro hot hatchbacks on the market, one other being the Audi A3 which is based on the same platform as the GTI and the other two being the Mini Cooper S and Fiat 500 Abarth.
      C. Engine mods are fairly cheap and plentiful, at least with the A4 platform cars.
      D. Things would probably be REALLY close between a Mk4 GTI or New Beetle Turbo S and a Sentra SE-R Spec V. The torque and HP figures are even the same, just reversed for the VWs.
I respect you for repping an underappreciated car, but tearing down cars because of the douches sitting inside of them isn't the way to go about things...
Also Diego, you're an asshole, lol.
