Lenora thank you so much! I am a jazz singer in the Seattle area and teach vocal Ensemble for 5-8th grades. Introducing them to jazz and using your youtube clip to demonstrate jazz blues! Centerpiece is a tune I often use with students for a major blues and your video is such a great help. You are helping us pass on the tradition to the kids! Bless you...

Thanks Jenny Davis! :-) That's helpful to know a fellow vocal jazz teacher is using our video. I'll tell the cats about your post! Good luck with your students. I love Centerpiece too. Such a fun tune.

You are right - if we had edited this, I could have corrected my syntax and would have said, "the most common form used in Jazz", but we were more interested in keeping it real and raw in the moment. You are watching the real unedited performance, and sometimes when you are performing live you make mistakes. Its what makes Jazz fun. We care more about making good music that feels good and swings. I hope you enjoyed the performance! Next time, I'll watch my syntax :-)

I count every beat, and they strictly play exactly twelve chords each round in a very relaxing way like there's rythm. Wow, amazing performance

Good question! You don't need lead sheets because the Blues is a set of chords that Jazz musicians are expected to know, and learn at the beginning of their journey as a musician, and use as a way to play together in impromptu settings. You can be from anywhere in the world, and even if you don't know how to speak each others' language or have never met, you can still perform together. Its why Jazz (and one of its core elements - Blues) is called a universal language.

Lenora Helm; I am playing "CZcams roulette" today, and you are blowing my mind!!!! You are not tugging my heart strings with your singing, you're playing them like a well loved stand-up bass!!!! Perhaps you can help me. Several years ago I heard a Jazz record that was just talking. A bass viol in support as a man is talking about a midnight snack. I thought it was called Voice Jazz - any suggestions?

Hmmm, Voice Jazz. I have to look into that. Wynton Marsalis had an actor record several pieces of instrumentation (maybe some were with just bass), and narration. Sounds interesting. Will get back to you..... (oh, and Thanks for the beautiful and kind words :-).

From what I could figure out with my guitar this is in "F".
Should follow a standard Jazz Blues Progression - if I am not mistaking:
      | F13 | Bb7 | F13 | C-7 F7#5 |
      | Bb7 | Bdim7 | F13 | A-7 D7#5 |
      | G-9 | C7#9 | F13 D7#9 | G-7 C7#9 |
This is an outstanding performance !!!

"The most commonly used form in jazz..."? I don't know - better check your syntax on this one.
