That's a weak argument. Here in Grenada we have waters from the Atlantic on one side and from the Caribbean Sea on the other side. That doesn't make us half caribbean. Barbados is physically in the Caribbean. The location of the sea isn't what defines the Islands, but the location of the Islands is what gave the Sea its name.

Another example is CARICOM , which consist of 15 member states - 12 island and 3 countries. However Montserrat being a member of CARICOM , sits as the only member state that has not gained full independence.Hence it is a British Territory/ Colony . A similar situation exist with the country of Taiwan. It's a sovereign state , and one that has had it's own Government for the past 72 years yet china argues that Taiwan is a part of china and does not recognize Taiwan's sovereignty. The main base language is English. You can go to any store in Guyana and speak English and they will understand you you cannot go to any store in anyone of those other countries unless you know their native language what are you talking about about?

The Bahamas is neither in the Caribbean Sea nor on the Caribbean plate, but it's considered Caribbean. Turks and Caicos too. Much of this info is presented in the video. Geography alone isn't the only way the region is defined.

The Caribbean community is different from just being in the Caribbean Sea. The Caribbean Sea doesn't have a culture it's just a sea. We are united as one. We are in the same school system. We write the same exams at the same time. Plus curry was brought to Guyana during the arrival of East Indians in 1838. He is misinformed and should not be misleading people about a nation he knows nothing about. He is a New Yorker.
We're calling him out due to the fallacy and one-sidedness in his weak argument. If he wants to go that route, he needs to identify and call out all the other island nations that are not part of the Caribbean. Guyana is a South American country, the only English speaking. It faces the Atlantic ocean, and is muddy because it is between the Amazon and Orinoco rivers which dumps silt out. Guyana is associated with the Carribean, British former colonies.

Another example is CARICOM , which consist of 15 member states - 12 island and 3 countries. However Montserrat being a member of CARICOM , sits as the only member state that has not gained full independence.Hence it is a British Territory/ Colony . A similar situation exist with the country of Taiwan. It's a sovereign state , and one that has had it's own Government for the past 72 years yet china argues that Taiwan is a part of china and does not recognize Taiwan's sovereignty. It is a FACT that Guyana is the ONLY PREDOMINATELY English speaking country/ nation IN South America - meaning that Guyana’s FIRST language is English and main language is English; Including Guyanese creolese. I learned in school that the Caribbean is an archipelago of Islands. Guyana doesn't fit there. Now is Guyana culturally Caribbean, well yes. But if a bunch of Africans take inhabit one of the Hawaiian islands, is that Island now a part of Africa since it will be culturally African and not Hawaiian? No, its still factually a Hawaiian island even though the people on the island are all Africans and practice African culture.

The Bahamas is neither in the Caribbean Sea nor on the Caribbean plate, but it's considered Caribbean. Turks and Caicos too. Much of this info is presented in the video. Geography alone isn't the only way the region is defined.

Not so fast lady, the reality is Guyana at this point in time needs all the help it can get , CARICOM is supporting Guyana in the current crisis with Venezuela and did issue a statement condemning Venezuelan claim to Essequibo , Guyana with a population of 800,000 with an military of less than 4,000 is no match for Venezuela which has 30 million people and a military force of 1.7 million which is more than twice the size of Guyana's population , CARICOM countries excluding Guyana has 17 million people at least with the 17 million people supporting Guyana Guyana stands a chance vs Venezuela because right now there is nothing militarily that Guyana can do to stop Venezuela from taking the new found wealth.
There is no CARICOM country with the military strength to help Guyana vs Venezuela. Several CARICOM countries have political and economic ties with Venezuela and are riding the fence because of it. @@curtiss744

Worldwide Guyana is under the Caribbean section for ethnicity because we are one of the oldest West Indian countries. South America is a continent and many Caribbean countries belong to North America does that make them not Caribbean anymore? Let's talk about how Caribbean culture is different from that of an island in the Caribbean Sea because many islands in the region are not a part of the Caribbean community. Guyana has always prided itself on being an 83,000 square mile country, never viewing itself as an island. It is 20 times larger than Jamaica and 42 times larger than Trinidad. Puerto Rico is in the Caribbean Sea and is regarded as a Caribbean Island, but not part of the Caribbean community meaning the culture. Culture is different from location.
Why our cultures similar? Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana all have their histories as being former British West Indian colonies. During the days of European colonization under the weight of the Portuguese, Spanish, British, French and Dutch, many slaves were imported from various West African regions into the West Indies.
The Caribbean community is different from just being in the Caribbean Sea. The Caribbean Sea doesn't have a culture it's just a sea. We are united as one. We are in the same school system. We write the same exams at the same time. Plus curry was brought to Guyana during the arrival of East Indians in 1838. He is misinformed and should not be misleading people about a nation he knows nothing about. He is a New Yorker.
We're calling him out due to the fallacy and one-sidedness in his weak argument. If he wants to go that route, he needs to identify and call out all the other island nations that are not part of the Caribbean. It's basically inconsequential but in the grand scheme of things, and seeing how big his fan base is, it needs to be addressed so the masses know what's real and what's hype (no pun intended).
