@@LaymanGamin can’t speak on what never happened to me. But in there recent Q&A they are really making things better when it comes to repairs. Both ally’s are backed with 2 yrs warranty. I feel comfortable with there direction. They acknowledged some flaws in some motherboards and have fixed the issue. First generation device isn’t gonna be perfect I bet the X will be a worthy successor
It’s 900 euros where I live but I’m going to buy this. Have the steamdeck but I’m really missing the game pass compatibility and windows for some games.

Loved Tunic until I reached the final boss. Completely ridiculous. Never was able to beat it so that ruined what otherwise could have been one of my favorite games of all-time.
@@feetenthusiast1015It's one of those games where you must not spoil yourself with guides for greatest effect. I dove into it with zero information except it looked like isometric Zelda games. It's that + being a soulslike + great example of what a good open world is compared to all the Ubisoft garbage and even more decent titles.

No trackpads is honestly a dealbreaker for me after using the Deck for so long
The SD has track pads to cover up the fact that the touch screen is trash, unlike the Ally, which has a good touch pad.
@@DeanSmith84 I'm assuming you meant "touch screen" for that last one, but if the Ally is so great why you gotta lie about the competition? If all you can do is make things up about the deck instead of bringing up good things the Ally does it just makes me be even happier that I bought a Deck instead of the Asus knock-off
@@DeanSmith84 OLED Deck improved the touch screen but why would you want to? I personally don't want to touch the screen.
I understand if you don't play PC games with keyboard and mouse inputs then the trackpads is useless but many of us do.
For example a game like Warhammer 40k: Gladius I played recently I want the track pads. PC games hotkeys I like using the track pads to make radial menus.
If you only play triple A titles then Ally is a good handheld.
@@DeanSmith84 The trackpads are a lot more than a simple mouse replacement. Also try the OLED deck the touch screen has a much higher polling rate. I still prefer to use the trackpads though and would also never buy a handheld that didn't have trackpads and steam input.
@@DeanSmith84 Deck fanboys are getting mad, but they keep watching every Ally video. If I'm not interested in a device, I wouldn't waste my time watching it. However, they are different. They keep mentioning Deck in every handheld review, which seems desperate. Deck is not even on my top list of handhelds. It has a lot of limitations, under powered, only 800p and no VRR, and AMD Fluid motion. Why would anyone buy a device that cannot play all PC games. No gamepass, No epic, No garena heck can't even play all games in steam struggling in AAA games in short only for retro. If I'm gonna play retro then I'll just buy a vita or a switch.

I absolutely love the story in Diablo and especially in Diablo 4. It doesnt get enough credit. You hear us older guys say 1 and 2 were the best in the series but if you took part 4 back in time and showed it to those same guys they would have been blown away. Whats changed is there attitudes towards gaming.
I’m never able to get to these when live but I enjoy listening to these podcasts and have been listening to them in my earphones at work for months! These podcasts have also made me find a new love in indie games that I never had and I find that I use my steam deck so much more since watching!

I feel like I’m just not onboard with this hype for the ally x, I mean it fixes everything that I think needed fixing right so I’m glad about that but their whole attitude towards the device is still not where I want it to be.
During the Q&A sessions they made it very clear that the Ally X is still designed and built in such a way it’s cost effective rather than being the best the Ally could be and when questioned on these decisions the answer was always the same… “to make it cheaper for the customer”
This thing is suppose to be the premium option of the lineup and I don’t want to hear that they didn’t spend a little extra on bulk buying Hall effect sticks for example rather than sticks we know are destined to fail at some point just to “save me money”. the product is already expensive and marketed as the ultimate Ally. They just send the wrong message every time, money money money, profit profit, that’s all that matters. What they have done - is overshadowed by what they did to save money and increase profit.
You're on the right track. The Ally X exists to ameliorate the RMA rate of the Ally. Everything else is marketing. If anyone is interested in a handheld, the best advice is still a Steam Deck or a Switch. There's no need to buy a Z1 Extreme handheld when AMD is about to get Strix Halo out there. Back to school laptops first, then secondary products like handhelds. We'll have a ROG Ally 2 by CES.
Ummm, the same thing can be said about Steam Deck. Aside bigger battery and OLED, what else Steam Deck OLED bring into the table? The power is the same, almost the same design, slightly different in couple things not worth mentioning.
Ally X is an optimized version of Ally not an Ally 2, like Switch v2, or Playstation 5 Slim, or.... Steam Deck OLED. Ally X is not the next generation of ROG Ally.
Say, if Asus decided to put all the top end hardware into Ally X, are you going to pay for over $1000 handheld PC? Even if you're willing to do so, will the others do the same?
The same can be said, absolutely... but i think its fair to say there really was not much more valve could have done with it, putting in a Z1 chip would have been an upgrade in power but a downgrade in many other respects. That would take away the steam decks biggest draw which is efficiency and ability to operate at next to no power usage. You can play a game like cue club 2 on deck oled at 3w 90fps for 12 hours solid... playing indie games on next to no power is something the Ally simply cant do and i think thats an aspect Asus could have worked on, an option to disable cores and operate below 5w would turn an 80wh machine into an absolute endurance champ and i would buy it in a heartbeat just for that, but instead it operates at a minimum of 7w barely able to tick along when we know many games can run way way lower if the z1 was efficient and performant enough at that wattage.
The main issue here however is not what they have or have not done, because for the most part i think Asus has actually done a really good job focusing on what the Ally REALLY needed to compete... no the issue (in my opinion ofcourse) is the massaging and attitude towards their own product. Asus themselves have said it, not me, they have said the Ally X is built with cost cutting in mind... They are ultimately shooting themselves in the foot with their messaging. Why not just say this is THE best the Ally can be, built with the best components at this price, no compromise so the customers experience is the best it can be with the machine... its common sense marketing. Instead they say its literally not the best they can do to keep costs low.
Comparing it to valve is ludicrous, the messaging is completely different, Valve explained how they managed to basically change every single component to improve it, they did what they could at the time with the chipset to improve efficiency, they even had a more plausible answer for why they didn't include hall effect sticks... not just that they were saving money which goes a long way to convincing your target customers that its made with the best intentions of being the best it can be rather than built to a cost.
Lastly and i know im ranting on, the price... Yes i absolutely think if it needs to cost more to be the very best that is EXACTLY what they should have done, we have an Ally z1, we have an Ally z1 extreme, the Ally X is marketed as the premium version of this hardware, why are they talking like they are aiming it squarely at the ally z1 customers with double the pricing? I would much rather it be a £1000 product that wipes the floor with every other handheld on the market today, this is suppose to be their ultimate handheld before the Ally 2 rolls around and i honestly think that would resonate with people more even if they cant afford it, the appreciation that they have created something that is astonishing would do wonders for the brand, its that 4090 moment right, not many can afford it but we all go wow.
@@jinx20001 Because you are in the minority. Companies market the "next" device as the "ultimate" version of their device all the time. And they have no issue appealing to the average person's wallet by informing them of cost-cutting measures while still calling it "ultimate" because the average consumer doesn't care or get hung up on that kind of messaging. Especially when the average consumer knows this is just a half step before the Ally 2.
@@JB-tp6uj yeh I agree, it’s only my own opinion, I certainly don’t speak for everybody, we all know the direction Asus is going I just think it’s a shame when a product is not built to be the best it can be and instead is heavily designed around cost saving.
Diablo 4 isn’t on xCloud because of concession they made for the EU. Ubisoft has the rights for activision and Blizzard games on cloud.

You will like it. I have the OG and it's been solid. The x fixes most its flaws in my opinion.
@@jimmytimber7074 what i love is right now the handheld space is wide open for the next best handheld i feel like the steam deck is the closest thing to the perfect handheld but i wanted more performance and vrr and with expansion of ram and battery life i feel this is the version of the ally that they should have made first but thats the beauty of these handheld are going to get crazy in performance in the future its exciting

I became a Metroid fan last year after getting my rg35xx. After beating Metroid zero mission. I went out and bought all the physical games I could . Such a great series of games to play
Ive got a steam deck OLED 1tb and im loving it but obviously, with linux it has its restrictions and i dont know whether to get the ally X or legion GO.
Wait abit longer cuz better stuff is coming out ! And the deck oled is amazing

It all depends on your game library. The Ally X is definitely a more substantial upgrade compared to the Legion Go. However, if you only play Steam games, you should probably stay with the Deck until a new Ryzen chip comes out. But if you play a lot of competitive shooters or XBOX Game Pass games, then the Ally X will be a HUGE improvement over the Steam Deck!

I was gonna get the Ally X but I tried the Legion Go and it was way more enjoyable to me in terms of user experience

Boltgun was awesome. Just started playing Oxygen Not Included on my steam deck oled, loving it.
The sd was a heat issue. They are playing semantics. The lower spec chip that they infer with the board that feeds to the sd connector was being fried. If the sd was placed away from the exhaust, it's probably no issue for the lower specced part, feeding to the connector.
So I bought a rog ally. Enjoying it. Should I return it and pick the X up? I purchased for $500. Lmk your thoughts! Or wait til next year for a new chipset?

I love Diablo 4 now. Been playing it almost exclusively since season 4 start over a month ago. I have all classes on level 100 now and started on hardcore. Had the reverse issue that Cary had, having to get all the renown again. Done with that and got a Necro to 100 though and started on a hc rogue... And still not getting enough of the game!
Part of me is annoyed that I'm not getting to all the games on my backlog, but I'm having fun with D4 so who really cares :)

Closest would be late next year. The new chipsets will take a good while to engineer handheld components around. It’ll take a few prototypes and thorough testing.

I try to when I can stay away from tec companies that bring out a new device every year, I know so many do but it's a big red flag. Either having issues forcing them to bring a new device or holding back for next year's entry and making you feel like you're missing out 12 months later, then stop updating your only 2 year old device. Steam deck have nailed this by not trying to churn out a new device every 12 months.

I think bringing out new hardware every year is fine, that way if I decide next year I want to buy a new handheld, I don't have to buy one that's 3 years old.
Steam Deck nailed what? Valve released OLED version just 1.5 year after the OG steam deck shipped (and many people got their decks much later due to limited release at begining). Well, it is better than ASUS, but nailed it? hell no. PC gaming is always about upgrading hardware which I am really geting tired of. If I only want to play games on a device, a real gaming console is still the way to go.
No one is making you feel anything. Control your thoughts and you control how you feel. If you have an Ally and you feel like you're missing out now because of the X, it's because of the narrative in your own head. If you want the X and you can afford it, okay just sell your Ally and roll with it. If you can't or don't want to, okay then just enjoy your Ally. It can still do all the things that you bought it for originally. And performance wise there is not that much difference. Fomo is a thing you do to yourself, take control of your mind :)
Then why are you watching ally videos then if your not interested in ally? Deck fanboys are desperate they keep on mentioning deck in every handheld reviews. It's kinda annoying already. We are not interested with the deck that is why we are watching ally videos and not the deck.
In all fairness the fixes are simply down to the user complaints and mainly RMA issues they have had on the original and tried to avoid fixing by making out there were other non covered by the warranty repairs that it needed so they could charge for their own design faults, and the only real upgrade is the ram, though the RAM is a thig that was an oversight from the start on all the mainstream handhelds. 32GB should be the target in all honesty though.

Give me opinions people. I'm thinking of replacing my deck oled with Ally X. Reasons being I kinda like Windows more and the fact that Ally X can give better performance / scale higher with more power. But really wondering how good that 80Wh battery is going to be. Can I get something like 3+ hours of battery with 45fps Elden Ring? Also, playing emulation on deck oled has been amazing. I wonder if EmuDeck for Windows is going to give me good experience too.
I have last year's ally and the performance is pretty solid on Elden ring for a handheld. I get a little over a hour in battery but that's running in medium settings. I would guess with the x you might get 3 hours. It all depends on how hard you push it. I can turn settings down and get 1 1/2 hours or more if I want. I like to run everything higher though I just have a Anker power bank I carry in my bag. I usually run Elden ring game settings at 900 p then I upscale and it looks pretty good. I also have a pretty decent rig at home so I get a little picky with fps. I have probably played close to 100 hours of Elden ring on my ally and I can't really complain.
The ally is a solid device but I never owned a steam deck. I have always been a fan though and I think the user experience is probably better on the deck. I think overall the x would be a better option though. They fixed almost everything and I'm actually contemplating selling my original and getting one. I also never had a SD card issue with my ally. It's been a great machine, the screen is amazing and the speakers are great also. I prefer OLED screens but the LCD on the ally is really nice. Just my 2 cents. I'm not a steam deck hater though I think they look nice too just a little underpowered.
Trust me going from a steam deck to either the ally or legion go will blow your mind as long as you mind navigating windows
@@jimmytimber7074 Ally's LCD is close to OLED already and the fact that it is 1080p so the game is sharper and crisper text is easier to read because it is sharper combined with VRR that eliminates stuttering when a game drops 60fps below makes the game looks smooth. Also AMD fluid motion.

@@borky1987 Dude I have a galaxy phone that has superamoled and I can tell you that both are close. I don't even know why you hype the OLED too much when it doesn't even help the game smoother. Vrr is more important since it eliminates tearing and stutters that make games smoother when a game goes down below 60fps VRR kicks in. OLED doesn't help anything in games.

Diablo IV pc and xbox have cross save. I play on my Ally and Series X and it shares my save so I dont need cloud as I play it local on both.

I originally got the battlenet version of diablo 4 but then they got me twice when they released the Steam version. So now I own 2 copies of the same game for no logical reason.
I have the Battle Net version too but I’ve been very tempted to get the Steam version on sale just for the convenience and having the Steam features instead of jumping thru a few hoops to add it as a non Steam game. 😊

That's great and all about the Ally X, but after my horrific experience with the first ROG Ally melting my $100 1TB SD Card and the ZERO customer service I received, I'll never buy another ASUS product again.

With how much they've upgraded it, I'm honestly planning to sell my Steam Deck OLED and my desktop PC to minimize to just the Ally X. Want to wait for full reviews and stress tests, though.
Love the show. This is me Speculating here but I don’t think they did the X in a year. I think the x was almost done when the original was released.
Asus only recognized and did anything about the motherboard issue when they announced the rog ally, now they are doing the same with the first rog ally now that the new one is getting released .

Hold Zl to target onto them and when they attack hold the direction stick and jump, the direction is different based on the attack but just try it out, then you can spam y if it works

Legion Go . 8.8" is something else and it just keeps getting better. The only intriguing competitor is the Onex mini
I will say having more ram is going to be a somewhat big deal because you'll be able to dedicate more of it to vram

Has Asus said exactly why they are sticking with windows for the ally? I just don't understand why they are paying their own developers to work on Armory Crate, when Valve has already done the work with SteamOS.

Not everybody prefers Steam OS. I probably won't buy ally if it has steam OS. I hate limitations and I hate not having the option to play all my games in different platforms.
@@nathanjuan6042 That's fair. But my question is really about the motivation of ASUS. There are other developers taking advantage of Valve's work on proton (Orangpi Neo). So there isn't any TECHNICAL reason ASUS couldn't follow suit if they wanted. But If there is a deal with Microsoft, that changes the equation.
What are these pop ups and Windows issues you run into all the time? I swear, I never have ANY of the issues navigating Windows that you talk about.
He doesn't care enough to remove bloatware, or watch everything carefully im assuming. I can see why he would prefer the steam deck, its just easier to use, and get into it for him. A lot of dudes that age lmao will overspend on audio equipment for example but wont know how to use obs with it.
@@JjJetplan It’s not even that. When I turn it on, I just load Armory Crate. Or Steam Big Picture mode. Nothing ever is an issue or requires me to touch the screen.
Asus fixed the warranty issue. That's not the problem for me, they played stupid games with the x370 BIOS updates including pretending a drm block for cross flashing was an update, and while the Zen 3 update was it's own thing, there were bugs they deliberately didn't fix and patched the 470. Their video cards are not high quality, they are gamer look only, and everything is massively overpriced since Zen 3, and I mean everything. Then they're the main manufacturer of open source gaming routers, and every single release is sub par with missing one key function that gets added to the next model, or has a defect. I can buy alternatives for everything else, but the routers are a monopoly, and every new version is double the price. Everything Asus does is anti consumer and annoying. The quality is not as bad as razer, but they're basically razer. Low quality, high defects, and over priced. I'll buy something else. They're operating on marketing, not quality. I'm not a marketing buyer. Never was. You can buy razer and Asus, and maybe Asus gets better, but I will not buy for marketing, and I despise people who do because they're dumb and annoying. 8gb Nvidia cards. You deserve it. Marketing does not justify a bad product. Ever. It's for suckers. The warranty issue is good for consumers, solely for getting people out of the fanboy bubble. It's cancer, more toxic than the actual problem, because fanboys are who enable it.

I avoided the ASUS ROG Ally because of the problems with SD card and Warranty. I feel much more comfortable entering the market with the ASUS ROG Ally X. My experience with Ayaneo was horrific and made me very nervous about future devices. I’ll never buy another product from them personally. Thanks for the great laidback chat.

Anyone who has not played diablo 2, needs to stop playing the trash that is diablo 4 and go back and play diablo 2. Diablo 4 is by far not a good game.
Diablo 2 is AMAZING!! It’s the best, and just get the remastered graphics version because it looks amazing and you can switch between the 2 graphics! 10/10
