  • In this video i am sharing some information about the envelopes and the sequencer. It starts with a short demo track which was made with the Pro-800. All sounds and drums were recorded and mixed in Logic Pro.
    Timeline
    0:00 : Demo song
    0:46 : talking about the envelopes
    6:21 : talking about the sequencer
    Addition: At 10:00 i said that it's 16 steps if the display shows 16, but actually i was wrong. It's always showing the next step, that's why it starts at 1 if the memory is empty. So for 16 notes it needs to show 17. Also it's not clear why the displaynumber doesn't count/update when playing new notes. Looks like a bug to me.
    Another thing i didn't mention is, that you can use the encoder in rec mode or press 1 to go back one or more steps. In case you want to change the last steps.
    Update: For a more elaborate demo on the Envelopes please check this video of ‪@winesynths‬ • Behringer PRO-800: SLO...

    Two sequences plus the ability to play a lead over them is huge. That's 3 tracks with one instrument in one session. I noticed that some patches sound very different when played high vs low notes. This means that if you pick/dial in the right voices, you can have a different timbre for each track as well. This is a really great synth if you like to jam DAWless. I go headphone out to audio interface to DAW to add some chorus & reverb and I'm done. Beats the heck out of messing around with a mouse to layer tracks.

I'll be using my Yamaha S08 88 full weighted keys as the midi keybed. Have two sequenced patterns going and then play melodies, chords or an arp over the top. Awesome! I'm using an Akai MPK controller and going through a USB MIDI Host to go directly to the Pro-800 without using a PC or other host. It works great but whenever I stop playing the keyboard for more than 5-6 seconds it's like the Pro-800 goes into 'sleep' mode such that the next time I strike some keys there's a half second delay before another audio note comes out of the Pro-800. I can see a MIDI status light on my USB MIDI Host flashes by the MIDI OUT connector as soon as I strike the keyboard (instantly) so I think the signal's coming out of the MPK just fine.. and the Host in turn is passing the signal in 'real time', so I think it's the Pro-800 that's the source of the delay. Anyone else noticing this and have a fix?

    Big thanks for the video,
    Well I'm still trying to solve my pro800 worries in midi by octatrack, good now I can sequence the pro 800 and write with the octa the problem is that when I press stop the sequence stops normally but a synth sound does not stop, it is continuous! do you think that when I press STOP I should be in CHORD or unison mode or without the 8 voices or cut with a note parameter (ON-OFF)?

    I bought the Prophet P10 module ($3,400 USD) and have 10 days to return or keep it. It's my first synth; I'm a saxophone player and pianist and guitarist (in that order). It is literally six (6) times the price of this thing. It can do splits and layers. People have made sound banks for it. There is no paging on small buttons. I suppose the envelopes are faster (all that is a bit over my head at this point). There is an editor for it. As to SOUND, does this thing have that "sound"? I could buy this thing today and have a week to compare them, but it's an overseas purchase and return shipping might be kind of expensive. Do you really have to page through buttons to perform basic functions? Or are you "diving deeper" than the Prophet can go? I don't see knobs on it to do what you are doing here. Thank you, and I enjoyed the opening track.

    • @tomnoise23
      @tomnoise23  Před rokem +1

      Hi, it doesn't sound similar to a Prophet 10.And it can't do splits and layers. Its sound is kind of in the same (sequential) family, but more raw i'd say... the modulation/polymod possibilities on a P10 are going far beyond this one as well. All the basic functions are there and editable with knobs on the P-800, but there are some ones in the menus like Velocity and Aftertouch sensitivity, more LFO and Envelope shapes and so on. But again, don't expect to get the same sound as the P10.
      The P800 is nevertheless a great little synth and at this price it's incredible. But it's not a Prophet 10.
      Meanwhile i've sent it back because the operation with all the button presses and menus didn't really click with me. Now i am waiting for the Pro-16 (which will be a clone of a Prophet 5 with 16 voices).

    • @JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton
      @JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton Před rokem

      @@tomnoise23 That Pro 16 is how far off, if your know? I don't like buttons and menus either, and I've got big hands and it looks small. But that's an advantage to take it to a gig, isn't it? The P10 is 10 pounds to 3.5 for the Pro 800, and I'd feel better about gigging with it. Those buttons were that awful that you returned it? I'm thinking if I buy it today, I'll have about a week to a-b it to my P10 (before I have to return the P10). So probably $50 return postage? ($50 on the way here, so a $100 "try out" fee). That's because I'm in Los Angeles and Anderton's in the UK is the only place that stocks it. Can you elaborate more? I really appreciate it. This is a first synth for me (again, 50 years on sax, 54 on piano, 2 on guitar, music degree, 1000s of gigs, etc.). Thank you again!

    • @tomnoise23
      @tomnoise23  Před rokem +1

      @@JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton Right, at this price it is unbeatable if you really need a full analog 2VCO poly. Honestly i wouldn't take it out to a gig as long as the firmware is not stable. I had certain issues when in use which seem to appear randomly. Sometimes the knobs didn't respond, the voice stealing was also not fully reliable yet, just for example. The Arpeggiator was sometimes not doing what i would expect and so on... Most of the time simply restarting fixed it, but you don't want to do it during a gig right?
      I am sure these issues will all be fixed over time though.
      For the buttons and workflow, i didn't like it. It's not the buttons or quality, the unit seems very well build. It just needed too many button clicks for me to get to the more advanced features. Maybe it's just me. But in the end it didn't give me enough to keep it. Just didn't click with me and i already have some great polysynths so the P800 didn't fill any gap for me in my setup..so really a first world problem here. But that's my personal perspective and yours is surely different.
      You need to try for yourself really. Everyone is different and your mileage may vary.

    • @JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton
      @JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton Před rokem +1

      @@tomnoise23 Hmm... I'm watching your "first impressions" review again. Certainly reliability issues are troubling! I would like a synth (again, this or the P10 module is my first one) that I can take to a gig. So, a P10 keyboard is out of the question. I have a Numa Compact 2x with the great Fatar T9 keybed, 88 keys. But I use VSTs on my MBP with it (Ivory, Scarbee, IK MM Hammond, all sound great). Of course I could just get the u-He Prophet app... The P10 module is a little overkill for a gig. I don't like buttons / menus either, but it appears prudent to a-b the Pro 800 head to head with the P10. About a $100 USD test fee (shipping both ways) if I return it, but I'd save $3000 USD if I keep it. So from a strictly financial viewpoint, I should probably order it....
