I don't even own a horse and found that interesting, informative and helpful.

This is awesome! Thank you so much. I'm giving my green horse trail riding experience, so I ride him with a halter and attached lead under his bridle in case others need to come to my rescue quickly. It became painfully apparent, in a very awkward situation a couple weeks ago when he pinned me against the saddle horn, that I needed a quick release mechanism instead of wrapping the lead rope around my saddle horn while riding. I made a rope strap yesterday according to your video, and I tried it today. The lead rope stayed out of the way except when I needed it; then it was quick and easy to release. Perfect solution. Thank you so much again!

Another thing you could try is tucking it into your belt like the tail end of a mecate!

Why don’t you cut a round end to your leather slits to stop possible tearing, with a leather punch or the like??

When I went to work in this shop the old man I apprenticed under was an old cowboy and horse trader. He would have us cut the slit then at the top end as we finished the cut end the cut a little closer to one edge making the slit weaker. I of course asked why. He said if you were ever in a wreck and hung up to the coiled rope you would want the strap to break. Having talked to several people over the years that have been in that situation they all agree they would rather replace a rope strap occasionally as to do the “Cossack Drag”. The same can be said for spur leathers. Thanks for the inquiry.

Can you please show how to attach a throat latch to a hanger on a hackamore please. To keep the hanger out of the horses eye. Also what size leather piece you would need for that. I have the size you have here in the video, but it’s to large for a throat latch on a hanger.
