    I've changed the thermal paste for the CPU and GPU on these little beasts along with some fan cleaning without having to take everything apart as you've done here and the process is very very simple.
    You can keep the warranty sticker intact and the motherboard can reside in it's position without having to remove it.
    To begin there are 4 smaller screws that hold the top cover down and are located in the little gaps between the motherboard and the case when looking from the bottom so you'll have to shine a torch in there to see them plus you'll have to use a thinner screwdriver to remove these.
    There are 2 on each side and not in the front/back location.
    Then you'll have to take the centre large chrome screw in the centre of the motherboard out (it also holds the top lid down) plus unplug the black wireless card cable as it's attached to the top lid.
    Undoing the front panel makes it slightly easier as well as sometimes it has to be loosened a bit for the top lid to be lifted off much more easily.
    Just undo the little black screws 4 in total 2 on each side at the front side end of the case plus the single little black screw at the top rear of the case (middle one) and the top comes off without removing the motherboard or voiding your warranty.
    These little black screws are located outside of the case.
    It might sound a bit tedious in explanation but believe me it's much much easier than it sounds and takes a couple of minutes.
    It's a simpler process and the warranty sticker stays intact, the motherboard stays where it is, surrounding panels stay where they are, everything can be accessed/removed with ease and putting it back together is a breeze!
    You've gone far and beyond with your upgrade and have done very well so I thought I'll give you an easier alternative if you were to work with these again in the future.
    Anyway great informative video and keep up the good work ✌️

    I just completed the 6700T swap tonight. It’s like the system is reborn! I’m no longer CPU bottlenecked in Battlefield 1. Previously, I would see frame drops into the 20s, even with low settings at 1080P, on 64 player servers. With the 6700T I can now play at Ultra settings, 1080P at a smooth 80-100 FPS with no frame drops.

    So wait.... I can put a i7 6700T in this!? Holy crap, I'm loving this little box. Before getting this, I was literally considering building a rig with an i7 6700k and a GTX 1070 but needed something with a low power draw so I went with this. Knowing that I can do this makes me happy. Sure the 6700T isn't in the same league as the 6700k, especially when overclocking, but it's still a dang good CPU and it's pretty stinking close to what I wanted initially. I'll probably be doing this down the road.

    just put an i7 6700t in my en1070, disabled turbo and adjusted fans - it now runs cooler than the stock i5! With turbo enabled it did spike to 81C briefly during some 'the division' play but mainly hovered around 75C. Thanks for the video, it's why i got the en1070 and i7.

      Kenny Freeman That's awesome, I hope you are happy with it. I have everything enabled on mine and occasionally hit spike to high 70's but since that is still well inside the thermal limits of the CPU I'm happy enough for now.
      Out of interest what fan profile configuration did you end up using?

    • @kennyfreeman9358
      @kennyfreeman9358 Před 7 lety +1

      I've set the fans to 45c - 70c for temps and 20% - 100% for both gpu and cpu fans. Have noticed The Division seems to be cycle hungry on all cores and tends to push temps much higher than eg. GTAV. btw from the intel spec sheets the 6700t package temp seems to be rated at 66c max (though the die max temp seems to be 100c) - have opted to disable turbo based on the 66c spec.

      I had to source my last EN1060 upgrade CPU from eBay. If you have updated to a newer Zotac BIOS, you can put in a Kaby Lake T-series CPU, up to the i7-7700T. That said, your i5-6600T is good for +500-700 mhz over the i5-6400T, which is quite noticeable. Good job.

    you've done pretty good here as i have the base model without your upgrade and i get over 160 watt power draws at the wall after a couple of hours of casual 1080 gaming and then the unit would shut down randomly on occasions which is really irritating as I'm not even pushing the thing and it's cold weather out.
    now it's starting to do it more often than not.
    now i wonder why the new 1070k kaby lake version has the 230 watt adapter as zotac must be aware of this issue and contacting them they just answer back with the power supply sounds fine look elsewhere for issues.
    what kind of response is that?
    do they not know that power supplies are not 100% efficient i mean reaching those wattages is very concerning but now I'm getting random shut downs until by the looks of it will shut down for good!
    sorry bout that but it seems like zotac don't really care of the issue but it's all fine when you pay a small fortune for the thing.
    good informative video by the way!

      Its been 2 years but maybe you still want to hear it. I have the Kaby Lake Version and I am also suffering from sudden powerouttages. Seems like the 230 watt adapter overheats and then you get the problems. I monitored everything and came to conclusion, that the GPU gets 0 Volt for 2 seconds (while frozen) and then the sudden restart happens. The new versions from the EN2080K uses a 330 watt adapter, but support says they aren't compatible with the old en1070k...:(

    So it is easy in a way to replace the processor because i have been thinking of getting the Zotac EN1060 instead but replacing the 6400T to the 7500T since the base clock on it is at 2.70 GHz turbo's to 3.30GHz which for me i would mainly play my games at 1080p still and also find that having a smaller system would give me a lot more desk space (well that and the fact i could bring it to my friends place for fighting games and such).

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 7 lety +3

      Ecks™ The problem is whether the bios supports the Kaby Lake CPU's. It might required a modified bios as it's unlikely that Zotac would offer any support. If you do go ahead I'd be interested to know how you get on.

      naznaz86 probably would but would be risky as it has a higher clock speed than this model here and this is pushing the boundaries as it is with thermals and power draw at the wall as it is even though one could step down the multipliers a tad but then what's the use.
      interesting though is they released a bios update that have the same id for this unit and the new kabylake en1070k 7500t but that has a 230 watt power supply compared to this 180 watt one

    Question? i tried the same with i7 7700t on the en1070k. with the 6700t wich temperature you have for CPU in normal use. for me it is usually between 55_60°C on normal desktop use, and going up to 70-80°C on Benchmark test unigine or video games. do you have about the same readings? wich are your bios settings? thanks

    • @diddler1979
      @diddler1979  Před 6 lety +1

      Sébastien Sainte-Marie I opened two holes on the top of the chassis just above the CPU and GPU fans as the tightness of the chassis was starving the fans of airflow. Also I disabled the CPU turbo mode but kept all of the threads active. Having an eight thread CPU sticking to 2.8Ghz hit the sweet spot for gaming performance whilst maintaining a gaming temp of between 55 and 65 degrees. Activating the turbo mode would shoot the temps up to the 80’s without a major increase in gaming performance.

      You'd have to be carefully with the 6700 seen as it's a 65w TPD part compared to the 35w TDP of the 6400T & 6700T. Make sure you strike the balance of the undervolt, temperature and performance as don't forget the CPU and GPU heat sinks in the Zotac share a common heat pipe.

      it seems they added a couple of riser boards on the m.2 slot and underneath the cpu bracket with the addition of a cooling fan.
      it seems they are aware these systems can get very hot but what that little fan can do is beyond me.
      better to drill out some plastic with a bit of style and finesse of course from the bottom cover and place some grill type mesh on there and have a mini laptop cooling pad pull air out of the bottom case and blow it out the back.
      will definitely help lower those hd temps and most likely the mb, ram, cpu as well.
      zotac have stated they have changed the cpu fan as well and it's possible to place the i7 7700t in the k and non k version with the latest bios updates but one would void the warranty lol

      I've been playing around with mine a bit more and noticed something odd. Even when power is off and the power plugged in there is 5v still going to all of the USB ports and also the heat sinks are warm too. Only when I pull the power out completely from the unit do they cool off completely.
      I noticed it before I opened the case that there appeared to be a small amount of heat on the top of the chassis even when left off for hours.

    • @teemo6689
      @teemo6689 Před 7 lety

      Paul LastLevelTech it only blows air on the ssd area but still has that tiny space between the board and the bottom cover.
      could've went with a slightly larger bottom cover though.
      apparently they changed the cpu fan as well but that little fan won't draw much at all to warrant the bigger supply but the kaby lakes seem to run a bit warmer and use slighter more juice than the skylake so a little head room won't hurt plus they can be used with these units as well.
      they can add fans but the small area inside these units doesn't help.
      some more ventilation, below the unit and maybe some subtle inlet vents above the cpu and gpu area would help but raising the top cover and bottom cover bout 10mm with larger inlet vents will still make this unit a compact sff while improving temps and most importantly longevity.
      yeah Paul these things get very hot and balmy to touch even with HD streaming and with a couple of hours gaming they take a while to cool down.
      they need to improve the ventilation and cooling that's for sure but i guess that's why they have the en1080 if you want more performance and cooling but the size is the trade off

      @MattPritchardOfficial Před 5 lety +1

      Victor, You must have a GPU on this unit for it work, it can't output the built in iGPU (intel HD 630 etc) as they aren't hooked up to the ports, and getting a MXM GPU that will work correctly (correct BIOS, etc) may be difficult and very expensive.
      Right now Zotac is closing out the EN1060-i3 model on their store (go to their website) for $499 w/ free shipping and no tax outside of CA, It comes with 8GB RAM and 2c/4t 3.2Ghz CPU. If you just need a portable unit, purchase a cheap 250-500GB SSD and you are complete except for OS for well under $600, or use it as as a starting point for a CPU upgrade mod. You can upgrade it to 16GB RAM for under $50 also.
