- Today I'm testing out three As Seen on TV personal cooling devices to see how they work. These include the Arctic Air Grip Go, Go Fan Flip, and the original Go Fan.
To clarify my thoughts on the Go Fan Cool Mist, I said I "wasn't a fan" because the mist function didn't work, but I did like it as a small desktop fan.

The way I've been watching you for like 6 years and in still absolutely floored how you still manage to have such a nice looking home with this many random products haha
I've lived in the desert for 30 years and the wife and I have wasted hundreds of dollars on these personal cooling devices and I've yet to find one that was worth a darn outside. You're better off buying good hot weather clothes like Hanes Xtemp or Arctic Cool, a good, vented wide brimmed hat and staying hydrated.
Learn from the people of the desert, Arabs. Look at how our clothes are white and covering all our body.
And for the head, it's always covered from top to below the neck and ears. We don't typically cover our faces (men), but we could easily do it with our head garmets if we wanted. But with AC everywhere, we rarely find the need to cover the actual face.
Bottom line, it's better to prevent the sun heat than to get exposed to it and then try to counter its heat with fans and stuff. A wet head garmet can do wonders too
As a Texas mail carrier I'm always looking for new ways to stay cool. So far the most effective (but brief) method has been to mist myself with a spray bottle and wear my O2Cool neck fan. It only takes a minute or two for the heat to dry it up.
Have you tried those hats or bandanas that hold a lot of water? Might make the effect last longer.

As someone who has spent their whole life being weak to direct sunlight and heat, I've tried every trick in the book and many of these gimmicks in order to stay cooler. This also includes wearing fast-drying, breathable clothing (yes even the fast-drying boxers) at the time. I've done this for a couple decades as I'm an avid fisherman and I mostly fish during the summer when it's hot. I hope what I've learned will help someone else. Breathable shirts are a must. The way evaporation works and the fabric of the shirt being more breathable than cotton; your upper body will cool much more rapidly (if you sweat a lot) because air can get to your skin and the sweat will cool your body faster. This does not apply to breathable socks though. At least for me because I wear boots all the time. What happens with breathable socks is that the sweat cannot be cooled and cannot evaporate well inside a material that does not breathe well. Like boots. Cotton socks will absorb more moisture so your feet won't basically be sitting in a sweaty boot all day. The breathable boxers are adequate but you have to wear shorts in order for air to circulate and even then it's hit or miss depending on how much wind is in the air. Also wear a hat. The wet bandana will counter the fact that your hat does not breathe as it will most likely be made of cotton. Cotton clothing as the only layer will not work very well as cotton absorbs more sweat and that will block more air from getting to your skin where it needs to be. That's why a cotton shirt is a no-go for me. Although cotton works best for your socks when you wear boots because air can't circulate very well inside boots and evaporation cannot function as effectively for breathable socks to be viable. Cotton socks will absorb more of the sweat so your feet won't be swimming in sweat inside your boots like they do with breathable socks. I am not sure how well breathable socks would work in other shoes as I exclusively wear boots because of the places I like to go to fish. I imagine that results would be similar though.
Now on to what you can do to actually cool your body down with extra steps. Hydration. Hydration is a must and if you know you are going to be in the heat for an extended period of time, you HAVE to have LOTS of liquid inside your body BEFORE your body can most efficiently cool you. I measure this by at least 64 oz. (1.89 liters) of liquid (water or Gatorade) in me before I'm going to be in the sun. If you find yourself feeling very thirsty, you have already passed the time when you should have hydrated. You should also continue to hydrate regularly while in the sun even after drinking a lot of liquid. Now this will vary from person to person and I can only say what works for me. The step that really makes a difference (besides hydration) is to have a (or both) wet regular cotton bandana or a cotton bandana filled with crafting beads that absorb water wrapped around your forehead or neck. You don't want a bandana made of breathable material because the water will evaporate more quickly as the air can pass through easier. You can find these types of bandanas on Amazon just look for the ones that you have to soak for a few hours before you use them. In addition, you have to re-wet a regular bandana whenever it gets dry and I keep a pump up spray bottle in my fishing kit for that. It is one of those "olive oil" spray bottles you use the lid to pump up with air and then press the nozzle to spray the liquid. I got an aluminum one off Amazon and use it for this purpose and it has been very durable. Much more than the plastic ones. The bandana with the beads inside will stay wet for much longer and you most likely will not have to re-wet it but you can. This step I have found to be crucial in my efforts to still be able to be on the water in the hottest days. This combined with the preparation of being already hydrated and breathable clothing (where applicable) will most likely insure that you can last for hours in the hot sun. At least it works for me. I sincerely hope this helps someone else out there who suffers in the sun as I do. Cheers and stay cool out there.

I'd love to see how these types of things connect to walkers and wheelchairs. It gets very warm when you aren't up where the breeze is and quite often you wind up stopped in direct sun.
Just something to think about for the future 🤷🏼♀️. You could get either (or both) at a yard sale for next to nothing, especially if you don't need it the be in great shape.

I think I like the little Flip Fan. Seems to work well and doesn't take much room to store. When I was at college in the 70s there was a short craze for hat-fans. This was a baseball cap with a flexible gooseneck holding a fan so that you could point it at your face. They were not rechargeable, so the craze basically ended when everybody's batteries ran out.
The batteries weren’t replaceable?
@@Juicetheeunuch I believe they were replaceable but when they ran out most people lost interest in the fad rather than buying new batteries. A few people were using the fans later on.
I have the little folding fan and I love it. My wife and I both use it when cooking in the kitchen. It provides plenty of wind to cool things down. The fan holds a long charge and it’s super compact. We use it mainly when it stands on its own in 90 degree mode. I give it an A.
Maybe it's a safety feature in the Arctic Air to not turn on while plugged in. Water and electricity DO NOT mix!
Except it did turn on while plugged in. The battery just drains faster than it charges.
@Boston Railfan Just because the fan dies while plugged in doesn't mean it isn't drawing power from the wall.
One reason to have those fans in the car is if you are too stubborn or can't fix your car A/C like I was before. These might have been a really good option before I saved up enough to get it fixed
or 3rd row with no built in vents.
A stuffy arena would also be similar

8:40 *Unfortunately,* by the fact that the version of the Go Fan you have has a button-style power selector, yours is the newest iteration. The model sold at Walmart a few years ago is *MUCH* more powerful. Another difference is that the older version has a dial style on switch, which allows you to pick a nearly infinite variety of fan speeds. Besides that luxury of choice though, it really does rival larger fan. When I’m traveling, I always bring it and a 10ft. chord so I can have a fan blowing on me all night. *If you see the version of this fan that has the dial-style speed control instead of the stupid little button that only has 3 choices for speed, do yourself a favor and *GET IT…AND IF THEY HAVE MULTIPLES, BUY THEM ALL* 🥳🤩

I have that black and blue fan, I use the stand for the office. You turn it on and then adjust the wheel for speed. The only thing I didn't like about it since I use it in the office is that the USB is really short so I bought a longer one. But it works really well and I've been using it for several years now.
I have something similar but off Amazon and LOVE THEM. loved the first so much I went and got five more and they clip onto stuff, have a ton of different speeds, and it turns itself 180 degrees oh and you can adjust it up or down.
They did great with my newborn, birthday parties, outside events, bedtime fan, and more. After 4 years they are still going strong.
I clip one of those go fans right in my face and place it on full blast while I sleep. It’s lovely.

I don’t and haven’t used these fans but I do have a small portable fan that I use when hammock camping that works great and has a light.
I plug it into a portable solar battery charger and it runs as long as I like.
Used it for years with no issues.
The Go Fan Flip reminds me of one I had years ago that was tubular and powered by a D battery with folding soft plastic blades.

I have a blue and white version of the go fan. Great fan. I actually pulled the battery and just use a 10,000ma battery pack to power it. I get about 8 hours of constant running this way.

Thanks for the upload. I think the best and environment friendly cooling gadget is the sauna: you'll eventually get used to higher temperatures, finding the summer more bearable.

Just wondering if that chillmax grip go doesn't work whilst it is charging because you have to put water in it? Perhaps a safety mechanism?
I think the fact that he got it to operate again for 5 minutes after a quick charge indicates tat water isn't the issue. It sounds like it's just a misting function and not required to operate the fan itself.
I live in England its humid af here just not warm yet. Last year it hit 100 a few times i actually love the heat don't go outside was the advice id still be on my road bike hydrate and sun cream.

The idea of misting is great but my hair would instantly look like a frizzy mess. And FYI...you have to be careful because long hair can get caught in fans that you have close by.
I wonder what the wattage of the charger was for the battery test. Maybe one of those high powered chargers (like a 45w wall wart) would be able to power the Grip Go while powered on.

We've had those black fans for a few years and they still run strong. Only issue is the screws for the swiveling comes loose so I have to take it apart and fix them

For the cooling clothes I recommend looking into the hybrid motorcycle jackets/streetwear ones for decent quality.
It's like the final plot twist. Everyone thought the Arctic air was going to be first place with no competition and instead ends up dead last 😂

Bummer on the arctic air. I really like that flip fan, might have to get one of those for work. I have a cheap necklace fan I got at Wal-Mart but it gets in the way sometimes.

I remember when they sold the squirt bottles with the AA battery powered fan on top of it, where the blades of the fan were made of some sort of soft foam.r It was awesome to be able to squirt yourself and get the fan blowing in your face. It could have been epic if they had made it so the fan also sprayed the water on you slowly.

Hmm... I wonder if you increase the current of the USB, say, to 2A, will it work while charging?
Anyway, I use something similar with Go Fan, one unbranded and the other is called Lemoistar (I guess they want to include the mist but didn't in the end) and, well, the cheap one has its motor burnt out 3 months of usage. Lemoistar last until now, and it's close to 2 years, but it's 3 times more expensive than the unbranded one. Battery last quite good but I manage to salvage some old laptop batteries so I have multiple battery to use.
Think about it though the artic air as a safety precaution I would think that purposedly won't run plugged in as electricity n water not a good idea

I have the go fan personal fan and it does work but it's not as strong as my homemade fan. Also the power bank feature doesnt have a "turn on" button. I made my homemade fan from the guts of an electric razor and the blade is from one of those cheap personal fans. Yeah I made a fan out of a fan.

I think the little flip fan would be great to toss in my purse on a summer trip... incase I go somewhere and get really hot. Might be kinda nice. But you'd have to hold it... but also ... at the same time it can fit in your purse so there is that ... kinda a redeming quality of it if you are a person who carries a purse. And the rechargability is kinda nice... as for the other two... where I live heat comes with INSANE humidity often... so adding a "mist" to the fan is just a NO... BIG NO... The other one well I have tons of little fans... I don't really care about clipping it on somewhere... But I see that little flip fan has some good qualities... not sure how long it lasts though. Wow... over 8 hours... that just really is nice.
I use my go fan daily. Main problem is filling up the water.

The flip fan would be the ticket for women dealing with hot flashes

Hey James I know you're on a 4 day schedule give or take. Have you thought about maybe once a week or every other week schedule? I'm just asking cause I'm sure it'd help with your personal schedule plus will help with research etc.

Have you seen the Arctic Air has released a bunch of new products aside from the Grip Go. Will you be reviewing them in the feature?
The Grip Go fan looks a lot like the new Ryobi "Verse" fans which are similarly priced ($25) though they use Ryobi 18V drill batteries which can be pricey. But they are way more powerful than that plastic hunk of junk.
