This was a fun project that anyone can do! I know most people don't have access too all the tools and welding equipment it takes to build a bike from scratch, but that doesn't mean you should be creative and have fun with your project. Can't you cut that a little shorter than weld the other piece back on so that the weld is down in the head tube and won't be seen or mess with the bearings.

I do it a couple of days back, i put an inner tube for reinforcement... and i am not a decen welder but i trust it.

Occasionally I paint bikes but I never patina those I do paint. A lot of them I leave as built with just the welded and ground parts sprayed satin black.
