@Shashwat mishra without board certifications u cannot practice. I assume the reason being even if ur in residency u have to prove (test wise) that u understand what ur doing and thus makes u qualified

I feel that while the MCAT is difficult due to the very wide range of subjects to study, step 2 is the haedest for both the wise range of subjects to study and the pressure put onto you becuause that test has too much weight for dictating the residency you will match into. Really wish that the residency match process was a more holistic approach to see if you will be a good physician. Not just if you will be a smart one. Hard work, ethics, compassion outweigh the intelligent knowledge of a doctor.

I'm a pre-med, and the B/B section of the MCAT is the hardest section for me even though my major is biomedical engineering, because it's full of graph and data analysis, as well as critical thinking, which we were never taught in school nor in university. It seems like an IQ test more than a test that tests your actual knowledge about the topics in MCAT books.
I heard that the step 1 exam is mostly memorization, and if that's the case, I think I'd have an easier time with it, since all of the exams I took in my life prior to the MCAT tested that too.
Pathologist here -- did the same exams all the way thru med school & residency (including step 3), in service exams, boards and subspecialty boards. I also agree: board exam by far the most stressful, longest, esoteric, etc.

Ophtho boards were definitely my hardest because they really meant the most to me, the orals being #1. Had to take it twice ;). The first time I took it, I was so nervous that I honestly blacked out and remember nothing about it except that my suit looked like I had just jumped in a pool

You can be a software Engineer in 4 years and make over $130k right out of the gate with no $500k loan to pay. Trust me $130k / year for someone with less debt is a lot of money, I am talking about over $5k every 2-weeks after taxes. This bull crap medical nonsense is only a scam in America, we are not even talking about insurance and other liabilities you have to deal with. This is why most people do not want to deal with all that. In America, a lot of these are stumbling blocks to dissuade a lot of minorities and poor citizens who from becoming doctors, another one of the racial nonsense they engage in.

130k after 5 years experience in the east coast sounds more likely. Bruh even amazon literally pays like 80k for new grads in the east coast. But ya anyways I'm a software engineer residing in MI with 6 years experience, and I agree about the loans. I'm loan free, paid off my house already, have almost 100k savings, 100k other investments and even more bank savings at just 27.
Dude.... MCAT is super chill compared to step 1. Both pressure wise and level of difficulty. You can always retake the MCAT and most of the prompts now have the information you need in them to answer the Q’s. Definitely thought step was orders of magnitude worse, especially considering that there are no do overs for it and your career greatly depends on that number.
i think it depends on the person. By the time youre taking step, there are probably a lot less distractions for students in general (i.e. cost, friends/family distracting, jobs, classes). Step 1 is also more focused compared to mcat that has CARS and psych. Med school course work is also geared to step exams.
Theres more pressure from step but I dont think that outweighs all the distraction a lot of people face from the mcat. Youre a lot more in control when your studying for step.

I wouldn't mind the MCAT if they actually prepared us for it, but if we forget the issue of school/university, even MCAT books like Kaplan only prepares us for memorizing facts and is not helpful whatsoever in critical thinking.
If the step 1 is really all about memorization, I'd take that any day over the MCAT.

Also, don’t the teaching or lectures that you attend during residency prepare you for the boards?
USMLE step 1 sucked, step 2 was easy, I had no time to study for step 3 so that sucked.
We took ABSITE x 5 and ATSITE x 2
written/oral general surgery and CT surgery boards
I took my ABTS recert exam 3 yrs ago

The Step 2CS was suspended back in 2021 due to the pandemic and is now cancelled permanently so you must rock the Step 2CK part 😉

CRNAs are apparently getting more power. Anesthesiologists will probably still stay in power especially if they take on fellowships and specialize.

What happens if you don’t pass your USMLE step one?
So if you fail you simply have to rewrite it. This can in most cases significantly reduce your chances of getting into the more competitive specialities such as if you want to become a plastic surgeon as an example. Now if you pass lets say but your score isnt very good you unfortunately cannot rewrite the exam for 7 years so you are stuck with what your score is.

Concepts like pressure, fluids, potential electric stuff dealing with ion channels and stuff like that relate to the medical world.
yeah there are direct fields like anesthesiology, among others, that need a good understanding of fluid flow. it also shows abstract thinking and problem solving

Med schools dont care about anything prior to your undergrad degree (unless you talk about volunteer experiences you've had, if any during high school).
They only care about your undergrad gpa, your MCAT score, your extracurriculars during undergrad, volunteer experiences, and any research experiences you have.
