Hi guys! I just wanted to clear something up. I accidentally included "sodium lauryl sulfoacetate" on the list of sulfates to avoid. I've recently done more research on it and it's actually a natural ingredient derived from plant and palm oils that serves the same function as a sulfate without the drying, irritating effects. It's not considered to be a sulfate, so just keep that in mind when choosing products!

    1) drink more water
    2) get away from products that have alchohol and silicon (she said that the sodium lauryl sulfoacetate it's actually a natural ingredient derived from plant and palm oils that serves the same function as a sulfate without the drying, irritating effects)
    3) avoid heat (it dries it and breaks it)
    4) trim your hair ONLY when necessary
    5) don't wash your hair too often
    6) oil treatments while massaging your scalp (avocado oil, argan oil, jojoba oil, cocounut oil)
    7) be gentle with your hair
Plus some tips that helped me:
    8) massaging my scalp with jojoba oil for 3 minutes straight while keeping my head down my knees (inversion method)
    9) using a beanie after i shower to prevent frizz
    10) when i get out of the shower i don't put it in a towel as i used to do because it damages it

Opinions are opinions, but facts are facts. As a professional stylist, one of the worst things for your hair is silicones!!! Some folks swear by them because they give you immediate results by making the hair silky and shiny. But they are coating the hair, not allowing your hair to absorb moisture and hiding damage. Going sulfate and silicone free is a daunting task because you WILL go through a detox phase when your hair will be oily, matted, and dry and frizzy on the ends. Once the detox is over your hair will become healthy, shiny, and very manageable without the use of silicones or synthetic ingredients.

The thing is, you don’t do treatments on top of cones, but after clarifying your hair. Silicones give hair slippage between washes preventing fine hair from tangling like crazy, for some of us is a life saver. I’ve been cone free and went back to cones for slippage and my hair is still freaking healthy when clarified. Some of my friends are professional stylist and have the worst hair I’ve ever seen, and that’s a fact lol

    • @OrganicallyAnna
      @OrganicallyAnna  Před 6 lety +13

Sarah Connor My hair is fine as well and it get sooo tangled, so I totally get it! I’ve found that for me personally, switching over and finding more hydrating conditioners has helped more than the other conditioners I was using before. Everyone’s hair type is different though so it really depends on preference!

    • @mhuff8626
      @mhuff8626 Před 6 lety +14

I totally get it. My hair is very fine and I used to rely on cone to keep it from tangling. But marshmallow root is amazing!!! Gives you that slippery feel like a cone, and it's completely natural and great for the hair. Btw: I switched to natural products after quitting the salon bc they were promoting tons of services that aren't good for the hair. But being a stylist, I know the understand the science and pH of products and how they work with the hair, so it does give me some credibility 😉

~update: I made this list a while ago & everything listed may not be completely accurate, especially the shampoo brands lol~
    healthy long hair tips:
    - get a hair cut when you start seeing split ends
    - try massaging castor oil/coconut oil onto roots and ends every 2-3 days for oily hair, nightly for dry hair, depends on how your hair feels to you
    - no heat
    - no hair dye
    - only wash when feels oily/dirty, depends on hair type and personal preference
    - try dry shampoo in between washes, I don’t personally, but if you can’t stand the greasy look then try it
    - silk pillowcase
    - use Nexxus/ogx shampoo & conditioner for your specific hair type (try other brands, I just use these two becau
    - use shampoo brush
    - only use enough shampoo to cover scalp and let the rest rinse down into the rest of the hair (2 dime size amounts for all hair lengths/types)
    - use old t shirt/microfiber towel to dry hair after shower (gentler than regular towels)
    - brush from ends to roots, not roots to ends (unnecessary stress on roots)
    - gentle hair ties & hairbrush (scrunchies & Wet brush)
    - clean hairbrush/comb/hair tools from harmful chemicals and dirt if needed (hairspray, hair products, etc.)
    - gentle hair styles that don’t pull on scalp
    - stay hydrated & eat healthy (omega3s, fatty acids, etc.)- fish oil pill daily if not enough moisture and nutrients in everyday foods
    - take biotin supplement daily
    - drink enough water (half of your body weight in ounces, a little more for weight loss/if needed)
    - try clipping method- clipping up sections of hair along part to create volume while wet

    RE: HEAT
if you have color processed or damaged hair, i agree that staying away from heat will accelerate growth. But if your hair is healthy and virgin, I would say heat is ok if it's limited. I only straighten my hair 1 time a week, I deep condition before I straighten, leave it straight for 5-7 days (no touch ups), and then deep condition again after washing it. I don't use the highest setting, I use 380 degrees and I always use a heat protectant before blow drying and again before flat iron. I do a really good blowout so I only have to pass the straightener ONCE. I have pretty curly hair and I've been doing this for several months and i've noticed it's stayed healthy and is growing :) So I agree to limit heat, but once a week is not gonna fry your hair! :) I love heat, and i know others do too...

I completely agree with stretching out how often you wash your hair per week & oil treatments! For a period of time I had a really itchy and flaky scalp, and when I switched from washing 3-4 times a week, to 1-2 times a week (with an overnight coconut oil and innate life treatment before each wash), the itchiness stopped, the flakes are gone and my hair became so soft! Also this might be because I have naturally wavy/curly hair, but I also have the issue of having my hair growth stuck at a little passed shoulder length. Then again my trimming game isn't strong, with about 1-2 trims a year 😅. Thank you for the great advice and I will definitely look into sulfate free shampoos + conditioners ❤

The best way to heatless straighten is to roller set with very large magnetic rollers. I have 3b curls and my hair is down to about my belly button. I occasionally use 3 in diameter magnetic rollers and it gets it pretty straight. It may have a slight very loose wave to it but it gets it very smooth and shiny and pretty straight.
Some people use a hooded dryer when they roller set but I choose to just air dry so it's completely heatless. I have to plan ahead to do it like that, so I'll do it first thing in the morning and then take them out at night before I go out or before I have somewhere to go the next day.

I have a mixture of African-American and Native American Indian, hair 3c/4a which is low porosity and protein sensitive. I transitioned to natural shampoo bar (not the Lush brand) and African Black Soap to wash my hair. I also use clays and Ayurvedic herbs to cleanse my hair, which help strengthen my hair without the proteins. It took about 4 months to detox my hair from silicones and chemicals but I am SO happy that I did. To summarize, stop using chemicals in your hair (sls, cones, etc) use low manipulation styles, and then drink plenty of water and live a healthy lifestyle. I also do believe in vitamins and supplements, especially the older we get. Wish I had your channel when I learned all of this the long and hard way. 😂 Thank you for such a great video! 🙏

Ok I'm a guy , but you know being a metalhead I love long hair (mine is around 53 centimeters long now but I want to get it at least 60 / 65 cm, and I'm trying the one week per month inversion method right now). Anyway, my hair is wavy and a way that works very well to straighten it without heat is to wrap it around my head, lock it in place with bobby pins and wait for it to dry. It works best if the temperature is not too low, it doesn't work with me during autumn and winter because it doesn't dry completely even overnight... and my hair is not that thick! But try that, it may work!

Also get bloodwork and make sure you are not deficient in any nutrients and your hair is not thinning. I got diagnosed with severe vitamin D deficiency last year and I'm sure that definitely had an impact on my hair growth. Now I have to check on it again to see of it went back to normal after my cure.

I haven't used products with silicone in more than 1 year and I've seen a great difference in the quality of my hair. It feels naturally softer and looks shinier. The detox period was hell, but once it was over, my hair started changing so much. Now I'm gonna try to go also sulfate free. Sadly, finding good products is not the easiest task and it's important to always look at the ingredients list before buying something new!

    STRAIGHTENING HAIR NATURALLY :
comb the HAIR properly and gentlely after showering and drying it, then use drops of oil or any serum to smooth out the hair and comb again for no tangles then wrap the hair around the head using a comb or detangler, use bobypins to secure and keep in place then wrap the head with a satin cloth and leave it overnight sleep
    FOR LONG THICK HAIR:
comb the 30-40% DAMP HAIR properly and gentlely after showering MAKE SURE THE HAIR 70% DRY AND 30-35% DAMP , then use drops of oil or any serum to smooth out the hair and comb again for no tangles then wrap the hair around the head using a comb or detangler, use bobypins to secure and keep in place then wrap the head with a satin cloth and leave it overnight sleep

I was born with a heart condition called “hypo plastic left heard syndrome” yeh I mouth full. This condition is very rare as it is where you only have half of a heart not full. With this condition it includes some stuff that u may not like, one being not getting long hair!
When I was 5 years old I hardly had hair. When I turned 7 my hair was just above my ears and it stayed like that till i was 9. Then I slowly realised some change. My hair grew!!! I was so happy cause it taken a year to grow an inch for me. And my hair was shoulder length. I decided to take care of my hair even more and hoped it would boost it.
In a year I grew about 4-5 inches so when I was 11 my hair was about 4 inches passed my shoulders. Then I heard of the “inversion method” it’s basically when you turn your head down and massage it for like 5 minutes. I have done this for 2 years now and I really haven’t done anything to my hair including heat.
Right now my hair is half way through my butt😂👏🏽( I said that. ) and 3 inches passed my belly button. ❤️ doctors are surprised. People who have the same condition as me don’t have hair at all and some only have hair that make them look like a male 😭 ima pray for them
But honestly if I can get long hair in my condition I know you can too!

Mine didn't take too long. it was about 2 years to grow out length the middle of my back. In between I was dying it vibrant colors, a few ombres, some bleaching. I had thrown out my hair dryer and iron at the time and stopped washing my hair in hot water (I can't shower with cold), and I would do "leave-in conditioner" treatments I guess where I would just in leave my conditioner while I washed my face and body. I also during this time started experimenting with co-washing (conditioner washing) and washing hair less in general. This is when I found the best results. My hair was always the type to be overly oily as well as my skin and I would attribute it now to dry skin and dermatitis, although I didn't know this at the time! I would be washing my hair every day sometimes twice a day and it was still VERY oily and I would actually get in trouble because my parents thought I wasn't showering properly… but yeah it turns out I was just doing too much with it at the time and using drug-store shampoo and conditioner, which is so bad for your hair. I would also second that on taking vitamins to supplement the foods you eat because that can have a big impact! The more of these things you do at once, the quicker you'll see results!

There is a special hair wrap for straight hair my mother used to do when litle. You basically comb your hair in a circle wrapping way over your head. When its not all the way dry yet. Like bringing all the hair from one side over to the other side over the top. Kind of like a turban, or circle, if you understand? And then keep the hair in palce overnight with a scarf wrapped around. Put you hair on the side of you part. Or do it the other way if you want to flip it over for volume.

For curly hair and heatless straightening what has worked for me is cool drying on low and using a brush to pull your curls down or alternate using a towel to pull the water out of your hair and brushing it. It will not straighten your hair all the way, you'll still have a wave but you could use the (super low) low setting on a straightener to settle out the few waves left.

It's called " Inositol ( 1 of the B vitamins ) ___ so I looked it up in a medical book I had, wrote by a Holistic Dr... can't remember how he spelled his name but I think it was Dr. Balch & his wife wrote a book too, her name is Phillis ( not sure if I spelled her name right ) … anyway in his book it says Inositol is VITAL for hair growth ___________ I began taking it too & my hair grew down past my tail bone. Anna the way I get my hair smooth & straight WITHOUT HEAT is after I wash it with natural shampoo & use conditioner … I then apply a natural foaming mousse or natural leave-in conditioner, then I roll it all up on BIG JUMBO hair rollers ________ 1 row down the middle of my head & 2 rows on both sides of my head. It take 2 days to air dry, & I found a comfortable feather pillow to lay my head on at night so I am able to sleep well. Getting ready to try some new natural hair products like " Calia " & " Biodegradeable " called Gnarly Head - leave-in conditioner. Calia was recommended by holistic habits on her channel :) Her hair is down to her thighs !

anytime the hair is manipulated, you will shed a bit more. You could be loosing hair that has finished its growth cycle for instance. Be gentle when applying oil but don't worry too much about the strands 😊

Wow. This is going to sound crazy. But I like to poke my ears around “other spaces” just to see what I get out of it (I’m Jamaican -Black- with a vastly different hair chemistry). But I just learned something I think could be life changing regarding hair products. Thank you Miss 💛

To get it straight try to use more products to make hair heavier. And dont be scared it will look dirty. You need to use conditioner spray after you wash your hair, then after 10-15 mins apply cream (Lebel moist is the best) and when your hair dry go for oil (just a few drops of it ). Also, any time you brush your hair apply conditioner spray. You will see a huge difference in your hair

Lilith Lavandula bomb! Use it!!!! If you have dry hair. Don’t wash hair everyday maybe every 3 days or longer. Dry shampoo is your friend

Okay so I watched this video like four months ago when I cut my hair to chin length (oof) and now, four months later, it is just past my shoulder!!!! I cut out heat tools and drank more water and actually ate lol. Also braids/plaits (or other protective styles) are your best friend as it starts to get cold! (For me it's October- March) and because of this I have more growth during those months with protective styles!!! Hope this helps!

please do a video on how to tie a bun......which actually stays put.....my hair are silky so the bun does'nt stay in place.....it just slips off.....

    • @natc1008
      @natc1008 Před 6 lety +3

Thats easy. Tie your hair in a pony tail first, then make a bun around the pony tail by tying a knot with your hair and wrapping the tips around the knot. Then secure however youd like. Stays all day

"Sulfates make our scalp overproduce sebum and oil"- Just figured out what tf is happening to my hair. When I was using OGX sulfate free shampoos, I used to wash my hair only twice a week.
After i found out OGX has DMDM hydanation i stopped using that brand and ordered "Calia Hydrating Shampoos and Conditioners" which will take about 2 months to ship.
In the meantime, I went back to using the regular sulfate shampoos like Dove, and i noticed my hair getting really oily soon, like now i gotta wash it 5times a week or i look like i dumped my hair in a bucket of oil and it plasters all over my head.
So, sulfates make our scalp overproduce sebum- ACTUALLY makes sense.

To straighten your hair without heat, comb your damp hair whilst wrapping it around your head. I dont know how to explain but i will try: part your hair in two, brush one side forward over your face and then comb it over to the other side so they become one and continue to comb it around your head, pin it if needed and wrap it in a scarf tightly and wait for it to dry, its best to do it at night and sleep in the scarf, if you’ve wrapped it tight enough you will wake up with straight hair 💕

I have curly hair and if blow dry it on cold and brush it, it gets decently straight

  • @roisink9127
    @roisink9127 Před 6 lety +2

I have really curly hair naturally and one way i "straighten" it is using rollers when my hair is wet and letting it dry. It's not completely straight and it takes a long time to dry but it eliminates a lot of frizz and i usually just do it overnight i would recommend it.

In Morocco they wrap the hair brushed around the head from left to right using pins and then tie it in a scarf and sleep overnight. It straightenes the hair. It's called Patcha.
