I'm mid 60's , not the man I used to be and feel a desire to return to bow hunting to bring home some decent protein. After watching some ridiculous penetration tests on you tube I wish to thanks you Ted for your wise advice on poundage and accuracy and making me remember when I took archery class and was handed a beautifull 30lb composite recurve to learn on. It was so effortless to Holland like you say, soft and gooey and accurate to the 30m max we finished on. I used to shoot compound at 75lb but it was cumbersome and slow. Thank you so much Ted for giving me new hope to revisit the thing I truly love.

@@yourunclejimmy8135 Hey Dan, thanks for the info. I am a Ted fan and had not heard the Courtney Love accusations till now(let me say now that if the allegations are true, his actions were felonious & despicable and there is no excuse for it). I spent over an hour searching the subject using a couple different search engines and out of the 56 sites/articles I reviewed, I was surprised that there was only one news story on the subject. Everything I could find referenced the Howard Stern phone in interview with Courtney Love as the only evidence of the accusations. What I have trouble with is that 50 of the 56 articles I read included statements of draft dodging, drug use and defecating himself. With very little effort, any journalist interested in truth, can easily expose the untruth of all three accusations so I do not put a whole lot of faith in the regurgitated info I could find. I find it difficult to believe that if there were any possible truth to the pedophile/rape accusations that have been leveled against Ted. It is difficult, near impossible, to know the true heart of a man, especially if you don't have a personal relationship with them. That said, I will ask Ted to fill me in on the truth of the Courtney Love story next month when I am hunting with him in Texas. I will update you with what he says if you want.

I set the bow at 46# and can draw it with ease and really enjoy shooting now. The bow has your so called mushy draw with a 80% let off and its the quietest bow I have ever shot. Try this bow, you wont be disappointed. This bow has got to be one of archerys best kept secret. Later, Nick

I agree with a lot he has to say here specially as it relates to entry level bows. My 23 year old daughter informed me that I have to teach her to bow hunt when she gets out of the Navy and my grandson on the way will be taught to hunt with bow and gun as early as possible.
I have been pondering what bows to start her on since I will have to get her her own since she will not be able to use my 2015 PSE decree which is a 70# max draw set at 60#. I look forward to those three generation hunting and fishing trips in a few years but it has to be enjoyable for each person or they will never happen. I can get her a PSE stinger which winds down to about 25# up to 50# then let her figure out what she wants as a hunting bow later but the grandson is a whole different problem that has no real easy answer.

God bless you "Uncle-Ted"💯 my uncle is the only man in my family of hunters and fishers that bow hunted. I remember watching him as a kid being so amazed! I remember the first time I saw a broadhead he had got some new three blade cut on contact (this was 25 years ago) and I was in awe!!! And ask if I could watch him shoot an arrow, after that I have fell head over hills, no deniability, was hooked. And you Uncle-Ted was in idol and Inspiration. Therefore you have affected me and my life in a way that is so good, so much like a father figure, and In a most powerful and positive way that most people don't know nor can I fully explain. As much as one man can another man, or as much as a man can a father figure that's been one of the most influential people in his life. Ted (Uncle-Ted) Nugent I love you man and thanks for just being you!💯 I'm poor and work on a small farm just for a place to have a roof over my head, and a place to Hunt with the small 5 acres or so I manage. But my dream is one of the hunt. JUST to experience the MYSTICAL FLIGHT OF THE ARROW! SO FROM A SIMPLE MAN THAT'S A POOR AND HARD WORKING ON A SMALL FARM IN NORTH GEORGIA, THANKS FOR BEING YOU, AND THANKS FOR YOUR MUSIC (Which is understandably sexy rock and roll at it's finest) thanks for helping shape me into the good man I try to continue to be every day!
P.S. #archerytalk thank you for everything you do as well..
Maybe someday I can own my own hunting gear (bow) to finally get to enjoy the fruits of my labor and the land that I manage and work so hard.

Hell, even I own one and I have 2 Bowtech Destroyer 350s, and I like shooting the IEP better, because it's just so much easier to shoot for practice. At the $350 - $400 price point in a ready-to-shoot package, and being so much easier to tune, it's the best bang for the buck.

I'm 50 plus years old and started with the mushy kids bow a year ago and have been struggling to find a 40 lbs bow with a "grown up" solid back stop and enough riser clearance to use an "off the shelf" fletched arrow. I'm sick and tired of pro shop boys telling me "try this, you can handle this (several pounds over what I asked for) weight with *this* cam system if you just try a little harder". After hurting myself a few times I now just walk out. Doesn't my $$ spend just as well as macho Joe's does?

that was exactly Ted's point. I worked for bow shops for years. and the bows they stocked with me trying to get the lower draw weight and lengths. But the owner would not stock them. Ted shooting 50# cannot find what he wants on the rack he has to order and wait. Kids and women don't like to wait. When I was 35 I could pull and shoot 110# bow making college football line cry cause they had no form and couldn't bend the string hardly. The point being even though I could I did not enjoy shooting that thing. It was hard on the back and the shoulders. I always like shooting the 50# bows cause I could shoot all day and have fun. Today I am almost a purest in traditional archery. I went back to the basics in 2003 and shoot only traditional bows. I shoot between 40 and 50 # depending on what I am hunting and like I said before will shoot as often as I am allowed becuase it is just plain fun.

I live in Florida and my best friends run a orchard/beef farm. Well some cows got into the woods next to the orchard from apparently nowhere, because not one person claimed them. So, because we couldn’t catch them (spooky/fast mf’ers!) my buddy made the call to just shoot them. I took his wife out there and she’s pulling 45lb@26.5” old Hoyt bow. Anyways, she put one behind the shoulder a little high on the lungs and it passed thru, breaking a rib on the way out. 1171lb bull at the scale.

Not only that but hunting is becoming a rich man sport fast. Through the camo clothes that aren’t worth the money they are charging. Sitka for example...$180 for a warm weather silk like shirt that would rip if u get caught on a thorn Bush, $400 for a 1 day backpack.
Nobody allows people to hunt their land anymore. Was just talking to a guy the other day and I asked him is it me or 20 years ago people can walk on basically any property and hunt, now you can’t go anywhere and he said that’s the way it use to be. Try to hunt public land in Pa....you’ll have people come set up 20 yards away from you. I’ve lost 5 different hunting areas (which is about 30 spots) in the past 6 years. Hunting is becoming more of a hassle lately than what it use to be which is complete opposite of a hassle.

If you are new to archery and want to learn there is no shame in starting with a lower draw weight. To really get the feel for it even a 25 lb recurve will really help you develop consistency and proper technique. A good takedown recurve allows this flexibility. The 25 lb limbs will still be fun for recreational fun after you have mastered them. Then you can get 40lb peak limbs for hunting.and you will be a much more ethical hunter for it.

Why they do this is because most people are after speed, everyone want to gets every last fps they can get, and why u see people shooting 80#s with a 400 grain total arrow weight arrows

Ted when I was a kid I was able to talk my dad into buying me a 10lbs Fred Bear. Next was a 30 lbs made by Fred. I thought that’s it I got to hunt rabbits and squirrels and bagged my limit all the time. I couldn’t yet hunt whitetail yet because I couldn’t pull 45lbs at 9 years old however 2 years later I did and it was a beautiful 45lbs recurve made by Fred Bear. Never used sights learned the art of snap shooting could hit most birds flying. Now I’m in bad shape and cannot hold a bow out in front of me. I stopped bow hunting in 2016. I riffle hunted a few years now and it’s over in a few hours and not enjoyable. I decided to go back and use a crossbow so I can still hunt the season I love. It’s not the poundage that’s a problem for me it’s being able to be steady enough to make a clean shot. I owe it to the animal to take it quickly and humanly. God bless you I’ve been a fan forever and Fred was my childhood hero.

Ted knows his compound bows. I do not hunt but I target shoot English yew longbows with (shoot-off-your-hand, medieval features) wood arrows, etc. The modern bows with high technology, light stiff arrows that fly fast and straight are deadly at lower weights than what I shoot. (50-80#) But even what I shoot, I can be smooth, accurate and soft as a whisper. Search out English warbows and see beefy guys shooting 100# and UP with grace and silence. But that takes years of practice. Peace.

I started my kids at 10yrs of age, and I agree low poundage isn't an issue, accuracy with said bow is more important, kids love when they hit something it's an achievement and that's what counts, I've seen full penetration at 30lbs, accuracy at that weight is the key, as it is with any weight...

Recurve, Longbow. Don't need massive speed and weight to hunt or target shoot. Don't need sights, balancers, cables, wheels.

Love you Ted, and thanks for all you do to promote Gods bow country! The Bear Legit is a modern bow with a draw weight of 10-70 lbs, and a draw length of 23-30 or so. My wife is now using it at about 35lbs and 26". She likes it!
