I, too, have a son with CF, thankfully we have not had to go through what Jason and his family has been through but its still a fight for his life every day. God bless Ted Nugent for his efforts and contributions, my respect has grown (and it was already great for the man).

There are those of us still in Northern California, at least for a little bit longer, fighting for the rights of Californians and Americans in general. Most of us are prior military, hunters, many militia members, all avid firearms users, professionals and/or experts. Unfortunately, I have come to realize, as many of us have, that this fight is likely not something where we can prevail. Many of our members have already left the state, most for Texas, Nevada, Arizona, a few other states and a lot have moved to Idaho, where my wife and I are relocating to early next year. It is sad to have watched this once great state slide in to third world, shithole status. By the way, we are not the liberals who wish to move to your state and vote it into being something like California.

I miss the food, especially fish and chips and fried oysters, I miss my desert. Mostly I miss the two beautiful little trout streams that were within 30 minutes of me. That $2 per pack on smokes and making it illegal to eat your own horse( I have no desire to eat horse, it's a freedom issue), sell it to a glue factory or for dog food, or sell it to any one you suspect might do any of those things the same election. Lancaster was one of the first cities in the nation to start painting median lines at intersections so you could no longer make a left turn into a corner home/business. Then the sheriff deputy sits across the street to catch you making that left turn into the gas station you've been making that left turn into for 20 years and give you a $400 dollar ticket. The lottery and it's proceeds, via the court system were nothing like how we voted for them to be. They decided they had the authority to tell the tribes what games they could have in their casinos on tribal land. Not in Garden Grove, that I can understand, but the reservations are supposed to be sovereign. All that and more in a fairly short time period, it was time to go. As of this month I can open carry, I can conceal carry, I don't have to go through a background check or register a private sale. I would pass one of course. A little piece of paper says I don't have to and now the state is on board. Hell, in 1974 half the vehicles in the senior parking lot had racks with all manner of long guns and ammunition as well. Nobody said shit and nobody got shot.

I live and hunt in Tennessee where it is illegal to bait deer for hunting, but just a few miles away in Kentucky it is perfectly legal. You can however hunt over a food plot such as planted corn or soybeans in my home state. Practically speaking the deer are still coming in to a food source in a food plot, so I have a hard time seeing the logic behind this law. All animals are going to gravitate towards a food source, so what's the difference whether it's lying on the ground from a feed bag, or unharvested grain such as corn that actually grew there? You can't put out apples under your deer stand, but you can hang a stand over an apple orchard!?! Who came up with that kind of reasoning? Also in regards to the negative hunting comments I would like to say that most people opposed to hunting never think about the fried chicken, roast beef, ham sandwich or cheeseburger they are stuffing into their faces when they make us hunters out as killers or criminals. The truth is when you buy a three piece chicken meal for example, you just hired someone to kill that chicken, so you are in the same boat whether you like it or not so to speak. It is hypocritical to tell someone it is wrong to hunt for your own meat, and then chomp down on an Arby's roast beef sandwich. Think about it!!!

I was born and raised in Communist Kalifornia and I quit hunting here years ago. Laws and legalities conflict so much that any hunter can be prosecuted for something. From making too much noise shooting to figuring out which dirt trail or log shoot is a road and hunting too close to it. Then add in all the crazy zones that have no logical or visible boundaries or having to cross a zone to hunt an adjacent zone.. It is insane and that is what the politicians want. So much ambiguity in all the thousands of pages of regulations that any hunter can become a felon if a game warden or local sheriff gets a cold cup of coffee at Starbucks and wants to pick on you.

You can read the regulations and you can do your very best to do everything right and still the wardens and law enforcement in this state will do everything they can to find some reason to cite you for something. Our Fish and Game officials target the sportsman, especially those of us doing our best to abide by the myriad of senseless fish and game laws. It is revenue generation and a subtle commitment to prevent success afield, especially for the hunter. I'm glad you posted the truth about what really happened, but as you allude, law enforcement in California will go to any extreme, employ any tactic, use the full weight of its resources to prosecute a hunter when there was truthfully no violation at all. It's very disheartening to be a hunter in this state.

Here is another example of a hypocritical law, "You may not use BAIT, to hunt deer" but we will let you put worms on a hook to catch a fish, decoy's in a pond to shoot a duck, or special calls to bring in a turkey. Food is not the only "Form" of bait and to say you do not hunt with bait means taking your rifle/bow and walking in the woods and shooting an animal. If you use a scent, visual, or sound that is baiting the animal to do what it would not have normally done.

I live in California and I have a firearm safety card in my wallet. I have been verbally assaulted by persons who believe that I would shoot someone just because I have this card in my possession. I did more damage to human life as a soldier in the Marines than I ever had as a civilian.

I've got a California firearms safety card, too. Easy to get, and the test they give to get it does not require you to know anything about general operation of a firearm. I've got all 22LR target guns I use at local gun ranges (pistols and rifles) and I still get the 'beat-down' for being a "Bambi-killer"; geez folks, I told you I just target shoot, I don't hunt! Ted's right, the hunting laws in California are a mess, and anyone who hunts risks violating some obscure law and becoming a felon. Just don't do it!
