    Hey rosin, I love your videos and I’m new to fly fishing and I’m wondering where this creek is so I can try to catch my first trout on a fly rod. Also how do you find your fishing spots, is there an app. I try googling for creeks and nothing pops up so I’m wondering how you find these? When I’m fishing a river with wader, where it I put my net with out it going in the water?

    • @RosinFlyFishing
      @RosinFlyFishing  Před 2 měsíci

      I use a magnet system and carabiners to clip my net to my waist belt, or backpack. Others just lose their nets on the river quite often lol. Not me! As for spot finding, it can be tough. It's just a google maps satellite mode search game, followed by maybe some internet hints of systems, followed by checking if a stream is considered a 'tributary' of a larger system, and then checking regulations to see if that system includes tributaries in it's regulations, then checking regulations to see if it's open and if certain species are restricted, and then beyond that sometimes there are first nation territory lands that are not legal unless you have permission, and then there are provincial parks, and national parks with their own regulations. It's a lot of effort sometimes, that's just the reality! But it's good to start with big systems on google maps and then follow them upstream to smaller blue lines, find the names, look at them on satellite mode looking for accessible spots/roads, deep runs or riffles, etc

    Try not to net little trout or salmon parr like that, they're juuust the right size to strip their mucous layer off when wriggling through that type of net, could easily mean death for them. I suggest getting a hook release tool or something like that so you can set them free easy.

    • @RosinFlyFishing
      @RosinFlyFishing  Před 2 lety

      Not a bad thought, thanks for mentioning that. Definitely don't need to net these littles, though sometimes I might think it's better to net them and risk their escape than dangle them mid air (if those are the only options). Ideally I can jiggle the barbless hook out from shallow water with none of the above :)

      Hey man, I actually normally would if you reached out by email but right now with water levels and warm water it wouldn't be responsible to fish this water at all so I'm going to suggest the Bow or larger systems and only in the early mornings with current restrictions in Alberta :)

    can you tell me where it's safe to consume fish in Calgary? I was reading on forums that the bow is very polluted and shot not be consumed. One person said even if you go beyond the dam, the water from Banff is polluted and comes into Calgary. I'm completey confused as to where you can safely consume fish without worrying about eating toxins and too much mercury. It seems like you have to go an hour out of the City to be able to catch and eat fresh fish.

    • @RosinFlyFishing
      @RosinFlyFishing  Před 2 měsíci

      Retention (keeping fish) is NOT allowed from the Bow River and many other flowing rivers and streams in Alberta. Please check your regulations! If you want to catch to eat the fish you have to find specific places where to go. I don't know any of these, sorry. Easiest to buy the fish you like from the store tbh

      @@RosinFlyFishing Glenmore reservior has limitations on fish that is allowed to be kept, but it's still attached to the bow river. I couldn't find anything that says where calgarians are allowed to catch and eat fish. Do you know if isolated ponds such as Eagle lake and Mclean pond would be safe to consume? I'm totally new to fishing, so there's tons of information I don't know.

    • @es0x

      The person you talked to has no idea what they are talking about. There are no heavy metals in bow river fish. However you can’t keep ANY fish from the bow, and the multiple hundred dollar fine is not worth 2lb of trout. Our fisheries are pressured enough - go to the grocery store
