  • Watch Part 2 of this story here: • Lockheed U-2 | The mos...
    The Lockheed U-2 "Dragon Lady" is a jet high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft developed by Lockheed in the 1950s.
    The aircraft was created to perform observation flights in any region of the world, even under the condition of active counteraction by air defense. The basis of its concept is the altitude of flights - more than 70,000 feet or 21 km, unreachable for aircraft and artillery of that time. The aircraft was actively operated by the CIA and the US Air Force until the 1970s, and then - just the Air Force.
    During the entire period of exploitation, the U-2 took part in almost all military operations of the US Armed Forces and special forces, as well as conducted reconnaissance missions in all regions, including the USSR and the PRC. Under the conditions of an arms race, the air defense forces sometimes "caught up" with the high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft and they managed to shoot it down. The most famous of such incidents was the shootdown of a U-2 with the pilot Francis Gary Powers, in 1960. However, despite all the difficulties and scandals, the U-2 continues to serve up to this day.

    • @nicolek4076
      @nicolek4076 Před 2 lety

      @@indridcold8433 There's nothing wrong with your English. My gripe is that you are unable to see (hear) the myriad mistakes the narrator makes, which are sufficiently to bad to obscure his meaning. As for diction, I suggest you listen to English as spoken by an Aberdonian, which is a thing of great beauty. (I am from the south of England and my accent is very bland.) Don't feel bad about any mistakes you make in English: as long as your meaning is clear, English is very accommodating - unlike my second language which I write very slowly. It is a canard that English is an easy language, though. You might write something grammatically and lexicographically unexceptionable, but which no native speaker would ever utter and is, thus, wrong.

I bought one of the recon lenses from the UK Canberra in the mid 1980s as the aircraft was being scrapped, it was a 5" f6.3, 5 element , designed to cover a film area of about 10" x10" I believe. Now, put an engine on it and watch how high it will go. It's like the A-10 tank killer. There are crop dusters that have the same wing and frame configuration. And what can the A-10 do? There are way too many generalizations in this video. Just saying the F 35 has many problems, not specificing what they are or were, is inferring the problems still exist in current production lots. Several instances of problems cited, like Helmets, One aircraft that caught on Fire, Productions problems, etc., are not specific to the F35. Every new aircraft has development problems. That is what test aircraft are for, to find and fix issues. If one was to look back at the history of F16 and F15 the same complaints of cost and problems with those aircraft were in the media. The cost ,so far, of the F35 program has NOT COST $1.6 Trillion dollars, this completely false. Approximately 500 Million dollars has been spent. The purchase of the new F15 has nothing to due with the F35 aircraft. These are being bought to replace aging older models F15s. Cost per flying hours of $36,000.00 will be brought down to $25,000.00 or less according to the manufacturer, just as they have done with the current cost to $80,000.00 per plane. There is NO PLAN to fill any "gap" with another aircraft. People and media have assumed because comments from General Charles Q. Brown, Jr. No where did General Charles Q. Brown, Jr. say the F35 was a failure. In fact he said the opposite. Countering claims that the US Air Force could buy a clean-sheet design fighter to replace the F-16 means the F-35 project has failed; US Air Force Chief of Staff General Charles Q. Brown, Jr on Thursday said the F-35 was the ‘cornerstone’ of the US tactical air capability. During a Thursday media roundtable, Brown refuted claims the F-35 was a ‘failure’, saying the fighter was the ‘cornerstone of our [US Air Force’s] TacAir [tactical air] capability’.
    Brown went on to say: “The F-35 is the cornerstone of what we’re pursuing. Now we’re going to have the F-35, we’re getting it out, and we’re going to have it for the future. The reason I’m looking at this fighter study is to have a better understanding of not only the F-35s we’re going to get but the other aspects of what complements the F-35. And looking 10 to 15 years out, because I want to be able to understand as I start trying to make decisions is what do we want to look like as an air force 15 years from now, with the F-35 as the cornerstone of our capability.” He did not say a plan was in the works to replace the F16, only a study.
