I used to clean for a living. I'm into shortcuts. You will never need to deep clean your liner with this tip:
After removing the last of the food, add an inch of water, pop the lid on, and set to cook for one minute.
It loosens all the food on the sides of the pot, and makes it so easy to swish around the water, dump it out, and finish cleaning with a soft soapy rag or sponge. Rinse, and replace. Never use metal. Utensils or scrubbers.
I never would place it in a dishwasher, because of the harsh chemicals that will ruin the finish on the ss.
That's why pots get dull. I bought a second pot recently, so that I can cook two things in one go, and the old one is as shiny as the new.
In addition, if you burn something onto the bottom, just add a cup of vinegar, and heat for 5 minutes. Then, use a nylon scrubber.
In order not to put the lid in the dishwasher, but get it clean, use a soft brush to get into the nooks and crannies. I've never had to take my pot apart for cleaning.
Over 6 years now, and my entire unit looks like new, except that the gasket is dark (and I'm using the original gasket.)
I use my pot nearly every day. (Who stores it?)

I am going to try this! I made a Pot Roast on 4th of July. Yesterday I scrubbed and scrubbed to clean the pot. I thought there has to be a better way. Also scraping the bottom of the hot pot with a silicone spatula helps.

    • @jzthompson9598
      @jzthompson9598 Pƙed 2 lety +5

@@PDXDiamond Pretty much. I found that it didn't change odors after it was a few months old. I bought new ones, but haven't bothered changing them. I'm still using the first, and it has no odor. It seldom needs washing. It gets sterilized by steam every time you cook. Food seldom ever gets on the inside of the lid unless I touch it with a dirty spoon. I usually just wipe the outside.Steam cleaning is better than dishwashing water.

Hi Lisa, to get rid of the after-cook strong smell of the sealing ring, I tried many ways, like rinsing it with hot water, soaking it into hot water with salt for 3 hours, soaking in hot water with baking soda for 3 hours. None of them worked until I put the sealing ring back in the lid, then put a cup of water in the pot with a few bay leaves, and use high pressure to cook for 5 minutes. When done, most of the odour was gone. ( I did not try to wash it with soap because I was afraid that the sealing ring would absorb the odour of the soap and transfer it to the food later.) Please try it and see if it works for you. Instead of bay leaves, a TEA BAG would work the same way. Thanks.

My multi cooker - Ninja Smartlid, has the same issue. I even bought a spare set if seals with the intention of swapping them over depending on what I was cooking. The idea was to use a seal that had been used for savoury food on savoury food, and likewise with sweet foods. And then I forgot - best intentions and all that.
However, I'm going to try the Bay leaf thing,

@@ameliarannestiggins2345 Same lol I got a 3 pack of spare rings though, so I still have 2 more chances to get it right. For now, I have 2 chicken-ie smelling rings instead of one. Also, the off brand ring seems to have retained MORE smell, so I'm not sure if that's a quality issue or I just happened to make extra strong chicken broth this time. Definitely going to try the bay leaf and see what I get.

Love your videos!! My daughter is planning on getting one and I will share your videos with her. I have a Fagor multi pot and the very first thing I made in it was Swiss Steak. I tried EVERYTHING to get the smell out. Vinegar, soaking, peroxide in a bag in the sun, bleach, dishwasher..... I finally got a new ring. Then I tried Clorox Cleanup with Bleach.... I had made bone broth from a turkey carcass for my dogs and the smell was horrible! I was cleaning up all the surfaces and I put the ring in the dishwasher and didn't want my room mate to barf when she open it so I sprayed some on the ring just to deodorize it. It worked!! There is absolutely NO smell - no chemical smell, no food smell, NOTHING!!! So now I have 2 rings that I can use! Happy dance!!!đŸ’ƒđŸŒ

Order additional sealing rings. The company knows of this limitation, which is why they sell a two-colored set. Orange for savory and blue for sweet and dairy based foods like yogurt.
On Amazon, you can buy an off-brand four-pack which adds a clear and a black ring, but I had a bit of trouble with them sealing initially. They seal now, but I'm not the only one who had issues with the 3rd-party rings.

A soft toothbrush with a dab of soap works great to clean under the rim and around the outside of the lid, too. Mine came with an extra sealing ring, so when it's time to deep clean, I place the used sealing ring in the pot with the baking soda, vinegar and soap, and use the other (clean) sealing ring to close the lid. So each time I deep clean, I swap out the dirty ring for the clean one, and toss the dirty one in with the soap.

For cleaning the inside of the pot, the pot you cook in, I use the Bar Keepers Friend, you can get it 2 ways,
The soft cleanser ,which you have to shake up well before using, and the powder form.
I use the soft cleanser form,.After you've used that, make sure you do a quick wash inside with your dishwashing soap. Comes out looking new all the time. Don't forget to check the clear condensation cup on the side of pot.I clean all of my sealing rings in the dishwasher all the time, hang to dry, and put it back in when it's time to use again. If you have room, store the lid upside down next to the instant pot, so everything gets aired out really good.

I've recently heard this (I'm very new to the instant pot, so all this is new to me. Lol). I went to Walmart yesterday and looked for some, but they were out.
I looked on the Walmart app, and they had a powder cleanser, and a liquid kind. It looked like the liquid kind can be used for cookware, as it mentioned that on the front. The powder cleanser did not. Would one be better than the other for this task? Thank you.

Great, demo and like your pastry brush idea. The IP pot etc. takes up too much room in the dishwasher, so I fill it with hot water and baking soda, if there’s stuck food in it. Usually, that’s not an issue and I just use a handled sponge filled with Dawn. It’s much faster. I dry it and put it right back into the IP. The lid rarely has food splattered on it, so I set the lid in its slot on the pot and just wipe the condensation which accumulates at the bottom and inside the ring. It doesn’t need washing all the time, unless it’s sprayed with food. (Rarely happens). Love your cook n clean method! I’ll try that from time to time...

It air fries with a separate lid, but does not yogurt :( but it has a sous vide option. Maybe I can order the spoon? Does it have any other purpose? Maybe I don't have it bc the pressure lid had a button to press to release the steam & you don't have to put it on sealing anymore?

I've had my IP for years... Just throw the lid, after each use, in the dishwater w/ Dawn, take out the silicone ring while in the water as the water acts as a lubricant and makes it easier to take it out w/out stretching the ring and wash everything really well. Hang the ring so it can dry, put the lid in the dish drainer and let air dry. Make sure to put the little parts of the lid in a safe spot as not to lose them. I wash the pot in the same manner and maybe a little vinegar to get the hard water and food stains out. I leave the lid upside down on my IP and let the air get to the seal. It never smells. I never have to change seals for different foods, I use the same one all the time and it's several years old now. The IP was made to make our lives easier, why complicate the cleaning process? BTW, it'll never rust unless it's left down in the ocean next to the Titanic for centuries.

I'd definitely recommend getting the colored additional sealing rings, orange for savory and blue for sweet, and storing them in separate bags. Especially if you use cumin!
I often make yogurt and quark (similar product, different bacteria). The cumin I put in spicy dishes absolutely ruins them just from the ring alone! Even after boiling, it still imparts that flavor. My only solution was to use that batch as a sour cream substitute for tex-mex and wait for additional rings to arrive.
