Twelve-year-old Dre Parker could have been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying but the cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make him an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is a kung fu master. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

First of all, they should have named the movie "Kung fu kid", would have made much more sense... a f**king KARATE KID remake without any karate in it🤦.
The teacher/student relationship between Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan is as deep as a puddle compared to the one that Pat Morita had with Ralph Maccio, that's just like a cheap copy of the "true karate duo", it lacks deepness and seems a bit forced, and no one can "act" real sympathy🥱.
Sadly Pat passed away years ago, it would have been awesome to see him in cobra kai😔.
The only good thing is the truly amazing fight-choreography, with those 180°-360° spinning/jumping frontkicks, backflips, a flying triangular takedown, jumping back kicks, a tornado kick etc... but that alone is not enough for over two hours running time.
Imho the movie isn't nearly as good as the original, it lacks chemistry between the actors and there are no plot twists or changes from the original, except the age of the main character, the country and, of course, the martial arts. Why using KUNG FU in a KARATE KID movie? I still can't understand that...

correct me if im wrong but you're not meant to intentionally cause injury in these kids martial arts matches right? I just dont see how a teacher would ever be permitted to be involved in competitions again if he intentionally sent students out to injure other fighters. Seems like Cheng would earn a DQ and the teacher would have to find a new career, something that is compatible with a limp
