In highschool I bought a 65 Chevy C10 out of this guys yard and he said it was a deer lease truck and was sitting for the last 20 years. Me and my step dad took it home, hooked a gas jug to the fuel pump temporarily and a new battery, fired right up and ran down the road shortly after. It’s amazing how reliable these old vehicles and engines are.
my dad bought a 79 k10 for $400. put fresh gas in it new battery and it fired right up and drove home.
You shouldn't have to jump the solenoid from one side to the other. Just jump from battery to starter post on the front of it

Stuck valves are quite common on Old small blocks that have sat. You should check old engines for stuck valves before you try to start them or it could set you back some parts.
Marvel’s mystery oil will bring those lifters back to life quicker.

Had a 64 falcon w a hypo 289 in it. Loved that car. Built it with my Dad. It would twist the nose when launching..... was great. Rowdy to say the least....289 will Rev like crazy

Craig, you are right to not use this engine, trans combo. Even if the block were .30 over it still wouldn't be a good idea. If that is the original engine it would be a 5 bolt bell housing block which is incompatible with 66 and later engines which have a 6 bolt block which later blocks right up and through 5 liter and 351's are. A 351w engine and a tremec or t5 would be a perfect combo for this build.😎 🏁
My 65 has a 1987 5.0 with original 65 c4 trans and it bolted up fine. Blocks are the same 64-92ish

Prime the pump and 3-4 caps of gas in the carburetor normally starts it right up on cars that have been sitting
That’s not syrup in that carburetor, that’s MOLASSES!

Lean pop? You have a few stuck valves. You can see it puff out of the carb each revolution. Thats also why there is slack at the rockers. Just had a few valves not shutting all the way

Does it have a vent pull handle under the dash with a letter A on it
Also pour some water in the cowl and see if any runs out the bottom of the dash. Your lucky the stuff in the carb is still liquid.

Dis you guys change the oild first before start it..if not lol..in the radiator has coolant or not..just change it first because it's be in there for a while..the compression of the piston is not great..its sound like the piston knocking..i just say it

Looks like an old fram filter, Yay.. and far and few between oil changes, with cheap oil.
kinda looked like the rocker studs pulled out on some of those valves on both heads. prolly due to stuck valves. i’ll be that’s what the noise is

289 are solid lifters.

those are stamped non-adjustable rockers, if this was a solid lifer car that means theres 1/4" less lifter than there used to be
