I love this stuff but it is so cherry and they did not even mention that flavor on here. Maybe my palate is off but this one is a total cherry bomb.
Totally agree. Straight dairy Queen Candy Shell cherry lol I loved it combined with the oak. Surprised they didn't mention that flavor as well

I mean if this bottle doesn't at least get an 80 on their rating score, it's extremely fair to say he doesn't enjoy bourbon. This bottle is the classic example of balancing age with flavor. Its tannic, yes. But that's new charred oak!! lol

The taste off would be the new Sam Houston 15 at 103 proof and same juice.
Jason from Mash & Drum just compared the two and found them to be quite different.

Agree with Dillon all over this- One of the best bottles I have had, not sure why the cherry bomb was not discussed, although Dillon did mention a slight cherry flavor.
Liked this better than the last 2 Doc Swinsons. Haven’t been able to find the San Houston 15 in my area (Pasadena).

Have you guys ever tried Dettling bourbon? It’s a bit hard to find but totally worth it. The cask strength and bottled in bond are exceptional. They use multi-year air dried oak staves and a #3 barrel char. The price is right and the non-gmo six grain mash bill is completely unique.
Mash bill:
70% Alabama corn
15% Canadian rye
12% oats
3% roasted malts (Chilean barley, dark German rye & malted German wheat)
Will keep an eye out for it!

Didn’t like the neck pour of the calumet 15. But once I got passed the neck pour, and let it open up for a day. It was 1 million times better. Love it.
Pretty sure this is Beam distillate that they sold a bunch of off to sourced bottlers last year. Check out the last bourbon night post/video for details. Lots and lots of different sourced 15-year products coming out with different “stories” but essentially the same liquid cut to different proofs.
The speculation that is is Barton is based on it being the exact same mash bill Barton uses. Definitely a lot of 15 year stuff floating around out there - so I'm sure there are other sources for some of the other labels. Stay tuned because we have a big blind of a bunch of the 15 year stuff coming in the near future!

@@rangeradams you're correct. the mash bill (and IMO the flavor of the 14) suggests that it Barton and Bourbon Night maybe didn't do all their homework. To be fair to them, the didn't say "Calumet is Beam juice", but it's reasonable to say they sort of implied it. Anyway, it appears the Calumet 15 could be the same distillate as last years 14, just with one more year in the barrel. I haven't tasted the 15, and wasn't planning on it because my enjoyment of the 14 bottle I got last years wasn't worth the $120 price tag. Another year's worth of of oak isn't likely to create flavors more to my liking, so the Calumet 15 is a pass for me. But I'm sure it's is a very good whiskey. These are all just my stupid opinions and I don't think they are important enough for anyone to read, BUT... last year, I felt a bit manipulated by several trusted reviewers on CZcams and other platforms that praised the Calumet and the SH 14 like they were some of the best bottles released all year. I purchased them both and while I enjoyed them, the Calumet lacked the uniqueness and remained plentiful on shelves (discounted in many cases) suggesting that the bottle was over-hyped a bit. So I'm skeptical about reviews of this year's 15-year versions of both those products.
For the record we didn't praise the Calumet 14 - none of us really liked it that much. We also were not really impressed with the SH 14. This 15 year Calumet is in another league though. May not be everyone's jam - but the extra year, and more importantly maybe, the extra proof, really add up to a much better dram. Cheers!

Man I really feel there are some batches of Barrell Bourbon that you'd guys really enjoy (Not all of them since they are so different, but a few). Maybe batches 22, 24-27... if you find any, give them a shot. Curious to see the rating
CF 15 seems to be one of the more divisive release this year. Definitely medicinal cherry forward like the WT 17 BiB but with a little more restraint with the extra rye and lack of Turkey funk.
Calumet 15 beat Doc Swinson 15 in blind....Dillon actually makes more sense here.....Sorry I am very confused lol

15 is better then 14. Higher proof. Cherry lovers Bourbon. Just got the 15 on the 4th. Incredible.

Thanks for the review guys. I’ll stay away from this one I as I don’t like overly oaked bourbons. This is dropping in price now in So Cal cause it sits on shelves. I think I even saw this at my local Ralph’s, but it might have been the 14-yr.
