What do you think about this? Should we blow up their inbox to release it globally?
Please!! Ive been wanting this guy for a while now. Already bugged them by email and they said its not available. They should, its just sending a container over to amazon and their warehouse in usa. Love hos it looks too so damn clean.
Yeah! Let's get that unimodal hand grinder on the market!
Get some respect on hand grinder potentials for clarity ✨️ 👌
Release this and a different crank handle ! 😉
What did you do to get the outer burr off?
I’ve never been able to get it off my JX.
Who else is here with the re-release? Looks like Lance did us all a favor with this review!
Yes, happy to see it was finally released, definitely bought one and now sitting on my hands waiting on the NextLevel Pulsar to be released. Most likely will be buying two Pulsars so I can experiment with side by side tests.
I watched this video when it was published a year ago and I finally got my ZP6 grinder today. Thank you so much for the inspiration, Lance and I'm glad you and the community helped in persuading them to make it available to the public again.
Watching this after placing my order for a ZP6 Special. Lance, you're the man. I really appreciate your scientific and enthusiastic approach and I'm glad a company across the globe listened and brought a great product back to the market!
Just ordered mine! Thanks Lance for making it happen.
ZP6 is my favorite grinder, simple design, etzinger-like burr is very suitable for drip coffee, and more easy to use than commandante c40.
It's a pity that this model is no longer in production.
I bought this grinder 3 years ago and I loved it, I always found all my cups of coffee super clean, sweet and on the right spot, and I never wanted to go for a comandante after this one.
You are totally right that 1zspresso should sell again this version.
Thanks for the video you clarified a lot of stuff that I was always thinking about this grinder I never knew how to explained it to my coffee friends.
👍
What grind settings do you like for your pour overs?
This is the kind of content that makes you the best coffee CZcamsr at the moment!
So just pre-ordered mine after getting a news letter this morning. In no doubt thanks to this video, thanks Lance
How much have you paid the customs tax ?
Definitely sounds like the sort of grinder I'd be interested in and the build quality looks fantastic as well. I sent an email to them expressing my interest. Thanks for doing the video Lance. Also that's a really slick onyx tshirt I haven't seen that one.
Yes! Stoked you sent an email. Hopefully more will
This sounds like a very good option for a hand grinder for my needs. Can you tell me what email address would be best for me to express my interest as well? Don't want my email to end up in a JUNK folder.
Wish i could post the address but unable to with CZcams. I did get a reply when messaging them with the info address found by searching for contact and their company name
What’s the ZP6 special?
Clean, clear, and under control
Funny the espresso worked out the way it did. I actually sent an email to them last year (or maybe 2 years ago now) saying if they rerelease this with a much finer adjustment, it could appeal to the lighter roast espresso peeps. I’ll see if I can dig up their response, follow up, and say I saw this video.
Excellent presentation and review Lance. I hope the grinder will be available in the US soon.
Thanks so much for sharing this Lance. Just sent a sincere, humble plea to 1zpresso. I'm a long time, repeat customer (own several of their grinders, recommend them to friends), so hopefully they'll value input from their primary customer base.
Thanks for the review Lance. Great content. You had convinced me to go with the Kplus until this video. I sent them an email as well.
Loved this video, Lance! I've been a long-time viewer and have always been especially interested in your grinder reviews. I would do anything for a review of the fiorenzato allground!
Clean and clear and under control ;)
I could have save myself so much money if I had just purchased the ZP6 Special just starting out. After multiple hand grinders, I've finally found one that delivers sweet clear flavors that linger on the tongue long after I'm done with my cup. Can't recommend this grinder enough (for pour-over). Thank you Lance for putting my pour-over game on a whole new level.
What about C40?
Bro what about comments like tea like taste? Like light taste.
I like my coffee with bit of body, does it makes it so clear that it lacks body?

Nice to see Mantaray Coffee. They are truly amazing roaster for filter coffee😋
i got this a few years ago when I was at the Taiwan coffee show. I asked the 1zpresso rep, whats the best grinder ONLY for filter, he said ZP6. Went last year, I asked about what is still the best one for filter, he just said now that the ZP6 is gone, try the other ones haha.
If I’m correct 1Zpresso also has another one with this burr call the Ks as well. Being here in Asia, they’re common to find in the second-hand stores. I just got a used ZP6 and comparing it w/ my Kplus, the clarity is much more elevated though you lose some body and the grinding speed from a Kplus.
Bro they brought back! Pre orders start today!
Finally I also bought one. Super excited.
Thanks, Lance. Now I need that grinder.
wrote an e-mail to them. Man I want this on my counter! It would perfectly complement my df/sspLS. Hope to see this available again!
I bought the ZP6 because of your recommendation Lance. It should be here Monday. Pretty quick shipping from Taiwan.
Clean and clear and in control. Thanks for sharing.

Clearasil. Damn adverts taking up all my random access memory.
Thanks, I know what Santa will be placing in my stocking, Great job!
The KS has the same burr. Even thought it is not globally available, it is still being produced and their in their official shop.
Hey Lance, it looks like they came out with an updated version, ZP6 Special, hopefully this new version will be just as good!
ZP6 looks great, can't wait to try it.
hopefully they release!
@@LanceHedrick Don't see a reason why not after this video :)
Thanks for your review! There will be the latest 1Zpresso model called X-Pro released soon. I have seen some reviews in Chinese language so I don't understand it. I hope you will get one and review it to us then.
FYI , for anyone curious... I paid $199.00 USD for the ZP6. Ordered from Taiwan. Ordered on March 16, 2024, and delivered March 21, 2024...Took 5 days for DHL delivery. There were no extra charges or customs delays. And I love it ... DHL tracking left me wondering, but this seems to be the norm for DHL.
Curious which state?

I used the official 1ZPRESSO site. You'll have to look for the " English" icon, then you are good to go.
Dear Lance! As you most likely already used 64mm SSP Brew V1 burrs, would you say it's a similar level of clarity produced by ZP6 or is there a noticeable gap between the two?
You did it lance! I just bought one from 1zpresso.
I just got delivery of mine today. July 12 2024. Its the ZP6 special (which just means it has 90 clicks instead of 60 and 20 microns instead of 22 for each click). It's late so I'm gonna wait till the morning to make my coffee! Can't wait!!! I ordered it because of this review! Paid $218
This grinder is listed as e-pro in some countries !!!. It’s super clean ,for pour over it is better than kplus.Actually you can open this grinder by twist the bur counter clockwise .
You make a really compelling case for why this grinder should be something 1Zpresso should get behind more, and I'd definitely be interested if they did. It sounds counterintuitive that they won't distribute the ZP6 because it's essentially too good at what it does, as a filter coffee specialist. But I do get that a lot of people who buy hand grinders are also ones looking to get maximum versatility, for maximum value in the price of 1 grinder. It's why the first grinder I bought was the JX Pro because it was marketed as capable of both filter and espresso, with an adjustment mechanism that's more than capable of doing that (even though I still don't actually have an espresso machine yet lol).
At the same time, it goes back to that principle you brought up with the Niche: a wider particle distribution (even if not as wide as the Niche's) means a wider margin of error, even if it means you won't be able to push extraction as much without the fines starting to degrade the flavor. The ZP6 probably came off to 1Zpresso as being too difficult for most users to get the right cup out of with most coffees. If we're gonna do an email campaign for this, it should probably be in terms of showing willingness to fiddle around with a narrow margin of error in order to get a higher reward ceiling, so that 1Zpresso feels confident enough that there's a market of people who clearly know what they want out of the ZP6.
Thanks for your insight. Finally understood why people complain about hi end grinders. Makes total sense
the burrset looks super similar to the one I've put into my Rok GC the Precisio burrs from baratza/etzinger, I will say that they are pretty clear but not perfect, but i think that is more because of the rok than the burrs. also need to find a way to make the rok stepless cause 68 micron steps is ridiculous
From just keeping tabs for the past few days on the grinder stocks on the 1zpresso website, the ZP6 looks to be their best selling grinder, with their J-max S in second place. The K-max looks to be in third, with them interestingly receiving a restock of the silver. So I guess the whole litigation issues aren't getting too much in the way. The K-ultra, Xpro S, and Q2 S look to be just sitting on the shelves. People seem to really prefer iron gray over silver, despite it looking all dirty from scratches and wear in the long term.
I did message them to see if they have a ZP6 with a magnetic catch cup, and they said no "but that's a great idea". So fingers crossed we eventually get that sweet JS burr in a J-Max body or something.
I love your kids art on the fridge. I hope you have something from them in the new studio!
not my kids haha! This is the house of my US videographer.

I bought one this month. I am curious to know how to calibrate it when I have disassembled it to clean it. I does not seem to go above 5 after I put it back together.
So now we have a unimodal hand grinder with which we can pull espressos! I am in!

Hi all,
since this is currently not available (I am hoping it will be in the future) which hand grinder would you recommend now for pour over using light, washed and natural roasts? The 1zpresso K Plus?
Do not brew pour over, but I do french press, i do not know if you can make a video as to how it does with french press?
*ZP6 or Fellow ode with the SSP MP burrs for filter coffee (lighter roasts)? Thank you so much* 🙏
Fantastic review as always.
Interestingly, I have an older discontinued "E-Pro" model by 1Zpresso which I bought in Japan back in 2020. Not sure if that was sold in other parts of the world
It has exactly the same body as the ZP6 with the same 60 click range (0-5) but it has a 38mm heptagonal burr. This model does expresso well at 13-18 clicks and it also does a good job of anything up to V60 with very clear results. I like the 38mm burrs more than the 48mm because they make grinding easier at the finer ranges. Quick tip re: gripping the smooth metal body - I stick a strip of 80grit sandpaper around the cylinder (using double sided tape) as an alternative to a silicone grip sleeve. It is hands down the best thing you can do to a handgrinder. You will have super grip strength and as a result you will chew through the hardest beans with ease.
i welded a bunch of thumbtacks to mine. the points of the tacks have never slipped in the palms of my hands and i just squeeze my fist above the grind chamber to add a drop of blood and that helps with fines and adds a pleasing metallic flavor
@@allenlark
An excellent mod. Perhaps barbed wire could be an good alternative for those entry level baristas who havent invested in welding gear yet.
Drop of blood also a much better solution for reducing static than the standard RDT water nonsense...
@Lance Hedrick 5:50 I think ZP6 has the same 2mm thread pitch as other 1Zpresso grinders with similar adjustment ring design such as K-Plus. K-Plus has 90 clicks pre rotation and 0.022mm/22microns per click. ZP6 has 60 clicks so one click is 0.033mm/33microns.
The Zp6 actually maxes out to 70 available clicks but how you adjust the top collar can give you a wider range on the coarser side, say move your 0 to -10" so click 70 will now give you a coarse grind of what previously was an impossible "click 80"
I kinda pity the poor customer service person at the other end of 1Zpresso’s emails, they’re going to get to work on Monday morning with hoards of enthusiasts clogging up the inbox asking for a product that’s been discontinued for ages to be restocked, out of the blue and without warning😂.
Great video though Lance, I really hope it does come back and we see more clarity-focused burrs come to market.
Off topic, but I'm curious if you saw/handled the recently released X Pro from 1Zpresso.
Thanks for this video.. I got the grinder after watching your review, and it is amazing. I have a Sette 270 and the Odd s2 and this is way superior!
What would be the next step up from this to give just as big a difference as in this and the Sette. Thank you for doing what you do. Rehan
How is this different from the x-pro? Gosh they've come up with too many grinder models...its starting to get daunting

This grinder looks awesome and definitely something I would want to buy. I hope they rerelease this grinder to the international market. Also would it be possible to know the coffee roaster of the coffee you tried from Melbourne. I love tasting my way through coffee roasters here in Australia.
Would love to see your opinions/ranking system of Aussie coffees to date!
@@raydrysdale2726 I don't necessarily have favourites but my coffee roaster of the year for me this year has been Criteria coffee in Melbourne everything I have bought from there has been amazing. Second this year has been Ickle Coffee in Sydney. I usually really love the coffee I get from Proud Mary, Danes, Cartel coffee, five senses and Reformatory Caffeine lab. I would give Toby's Estate a notable mention they're pretty good, Monastery in South Australia are good also, Grace and Taylor can also be good. I find Ona to be hit and miss. Locale are pretty good have not had them in a long time. On a side note I am really enjoying my new ZP6 it is a pretty good filter grinder and it only took 3 days to get to Australia from Taiwan I have had to wait longer for a shipment of coffee from Sydney and I live in Sydney.
any thoughts on the new x-pro? it seems to have a similar build with updated burrs.
I’d like to have one of these for sure!
Was torn between K-Max and ZP6, this video pushed me towards Zed. I just wish it had a magnetic cup!
I have a Comandante c40 mk4 for pour over coffee so is the zp6 worth the upgrade?
I hope you can do a review of the different 1zpresso units 🙏
It... Has arrived. It's glorious machining looks really good on it. Bout to brew something (onyx of course 😄)
I am very impressed with the first cup. I used 3.2 as you did in the video since i have literally no baseline yet and I brewed a 1:16 kalita 185 with 25gram dose of la papaya typica (vac sealed in a deep freezer) which is a coffee I'm very familiar with. I think that grind is finer than I'd like here but what really impressed me is that the cup was still good. Was more similar to a good brew from my tricolate (something i generally have a lot of inconsistency with on c40) but on a kalita. It will be interesting to see how the tricolate behaves with this grinder. So seems it meets this claim of being able to push an extraction as far as you want as i pushed it honestly further than i want on my first cup with no astringency or drying sensation very low bitterness. It was also just a pleasure to use. Only minor gripe is that i would like the grinds catch cup to have some sort of detent when screwed in.
Is it it true they're releasing this now?? I'd be very interested I think. I love my little Q2 from them
how similar is the Q2 heptagonal to the ZP6?
Well it worked. ZP6 has been released 👌🏼
big fan of 1zpresso! Comparing it though to ghostburr grinders like OE Aphex how does it perform?
so apparently JS an ZP6 is out of stock for now, but KS is available still. The KS lite version of JS. same burrs but smaller.
I enjoy both the content and the delivery of what you produce very much! Maybe you could indulge me by trying to answer this question: Since (if I am not mistaken) the burr seems to be the same in ZP6 and the K-series grinders, is it possible that the difference in clarity between ZP6 and K-* grinders is only due to feed speed, i.e., the average number of coffee beans entering the grinding stage at the same time, maybe because there is less space between the shaft and the walls in ZP6?
The K series seems like a great platform for modularity. Swap out the top adjustment ring module for varying leaps in adjustment (8 to 22 microns). Swap out the inner burr and the outer burr carrier from the typical K Series, J Max burr set, or even the JS/KS/ZP6 burr set. The level of potential innovation is quite exciting to think about.
Or maybe it’s just me wanting to convert my new K-Max to the ZP6 HAHAHA
how come the quality dips so much when pushing hand grinder extraction?
Very informative video. I mostly brew pour over filter cups, I find I prefer my Comandante to my Lagom Mini or Niche (my son pulls espresso shots),. and I like my C40 a lot, but open to the idea that ZP6 could be better for filter brews. Not entirely clear why it is not being sold, and I agree, they should make it available. You assert ZP6 has less fines that C40. Perhaps? Obviously the burr designs are different between the two. Even if you think a sort by eg Kruve sifter would not tell the whole story, it still would have been interesting to see how that turned out, and perhaps grind 10g in both and spread out the grinds on paper to see if there was any visual difference. That would have been interesting and enhanced this video. The engineering of ZP6 sounds great, 3 bearings and double springs. I just had a similar thought the other day as I was cleaning my C40, does its one spring lose tension, and if so...
I have a c40 and recently owned about 20 hand grinders (see my other hand grinder videos). Without a doubt this is better for filter. I blind cupped it alongside the K Plus (I prefer this, as do many others, to the C40) and the C40. Consistently preferred this. Also, there is a big visual difference as well as a big sifting difference. optically there is a big difference. I don't have nice enough camera equipment to really be able to showcase this (well, i didnt when this was filmed, but now have a nice macro lens). But, I can say confidently this produces far less fines than the C40. As do other grinders i've used.
@@LanceHedrick thanks for your reply! So for purely pour over filter cup, if the ZP6 is not available, and I did do some searching, then the K Max or you say K Plus -- I am not that familiar with 1zpresso grinders. While searching I saw some info about Comandante suing resellers in EU, and that bothers you. I get it. But also looks like some were advertizing with "comandante-like burrs" or something like that. @@simkool77 comandante sueing resellers is not about the burrs, they're not original anyway. It's about comandante claiming they 'invented' the crank arm with a bend.

@@gregH_ I haven’t tried a French press yet, but I’m at about 4.5 on V60 currently, so I’m pretty confident there are enough clicks left for that.
@@emjbee101 thanks! I’m UK also. Not sure if it’s worth getting it shipped or get the K-MAX instead
@@gregH_ if you wanted to do Espresso with it too, K-Max would be a good option. I have a grinder for espresso so only really wanted a pourover / filter hand grinder, but I bet I’d be hard pushed to taste the difference compared to a K-Max 🤷♂️
My delivery costs turned out to be next to nothing and it didn’t take long to come from Canada at all, but if you’re open to other grinders from 1ZPresso then probably worth checking out someone like Sigma Coffee UK.
@@emjbee101 thanks for the advice! K-Max is still filter (J-Max is espresso I think). So not sure how much better the ZP6 is, I know Lance has recommended both before though. I have a Niche Zero for Espreso and wanted to try a hand grinder for filter coffees for a try!

Interesting, never heard of this one before.
Does this get through beans easier than a varia hand grinder?
Okay, can you please do a review on the the unsung heroes of the home coffee/espresso world?! The handheld vacuum… 😂
Hey Lance!
I know this is a bit unrelated to this video,
Just curious about some things:
1. Does different water (RO vs third wave/additive minerals) will need different grind settings/ water temperature? I find my brew using 3rd wave is a bit overextracted (dry tasting) than using RO water using the same settings.
2. Does brew time can serve as an indicator for grind setting when switching grinders for the same coffeebeans? (*Does different grinder has different brewtime)
a bit too much for a response here but in short, water does affect greatly your coffee and you will find a need to change brew recipes with your water. Time can serve as an indicator but not necessarily.
RO water is intended to be remineralised using coffee specific filters or manually. Especially if used in espresso machines, using just straight RO water will cause corrosion in machines, and In general will cause a bland a hollow cup
@@LanceHedrick thanks for the kind reply & explanation 🙏
@@IamMotionMedia my current RO water setup has tds of 7-11(I actually never measure the pH), and I never heard about corrosion in using RO water. Been on this setup for about 1.5years and I think my brew is quite to my liking.
I've heard that mineralized water has risk of scaling in the internals of espresso machine, but I will read about it more. Thanks for the kind reply 🙏
@@darkim1777 Water produced by reverse osmosis has a comparatively low pH and has little or no alkalinity. This means that the water lacks its hardness to function like a buffer. Therefore, this type of water can be highly corrosive.

What is the max capacity on this one, roughly?
I’ve been struggling to get good results with my comandante and tricolate. Just doesn’t seem to work so well at the 1:20 ratio I’ve been trying. Would this grinder work better under such conditions?
Commandante should be more than capable of giving you a good result. At the very least it should be able to reach that ballpark. I would look at other variables before changing the grinder.
In any case, as stated in the vid, zp6 will give you a few percentage points in grind uniformity. It will not be that large a difference.
I just sent an email too, hope they’ll put this gem back on the market !
Newbie question. How is 1 click from burr touch possible? Wouldn't that choke the machine? Or does it have to do more with the distance between the inner and outer burr which is different between every grinder because of the burr shape.
Burr rub or burr touch is when the inner burr can still rotate but there is a part or are parts of it (not entirely) that slightly rub on the outer burr. True concentricity where burr rub appears on all sides equally is probably non-existent with current manufacturing and alignment tolerances.
Even at settings with some burr rub, coffee will still grind and come out!
@@m.andre824 right, I'm just confused that how can one grinder's 1 click past burr rub be coarse enough to not cause choking vs another grinder's 1 click past burr rub. If I did 1 click past burr for my 1zpresso KS, it would be wayyy too incredibly fine. Does it have to do with the shape and curves of the burr?
lack of fines/puck resistance.
@@_-JR01 the KS has the same burr set but if it’s producing more puck resistance at the same setting, it would probably be down to alignment, maybe type of beans
So I bit the bullet and bought the new version of the ZP6. I expected at least a somewhat different experience as compared to my other 1ZPresso hand grinders, but not this different. For example, I usually run my K-Max at about the 6.5 mark, but am running the ZP6 at about the 4.5 to 5 mark. I know this doesn't say a whole lot, I don't have specific micron measurements for the burrs or a PSD of the grind output, but it's just so weird to me how much finer I can push while getting exceptional flavor. It's bringing out a ton of sweetness in my Ethiopian beans as compared to using the identical brew method with my K-Max. And sure, there is less body to the cup it seems, but I'm finding I'm okay with that given the boost in "clarity" (able to pick out more flavor notes). Also the grinding experience itself feels wildly different. The pre-breaker section on the burr set seems to make grinding... easier? Requires less force? I don't know what it is but there's a more "hollow" feeling as I grind with it by comparison to the K-Max, with less "stalling" (moments where you have to "push through" a harder light roast bean). I'm still sad it doesn't have a magnetic catch cup and was being petty about pulling the trigger solely based on that (🤣) but am absolutely happy with this purchase. Thanks for encouraging experimentation on this coffee journey.
This is an awesome review! So glad you enjoy it. I was worried at how you phrased the opening. Haha
And I'm torn re: magnet. I love magnets. But their magnetic bases are a bit weak. If the magnets were stronger, that would be ideal

How does the ZP6 do with medium roasts?
Please, give us some tips in grind setting and recipes to zp6. It is too hard to find. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I recently received the ZP6 and I'm still trying to find the right grind after a few attempts that doesn't cause excessive bitterness with automatic drip brew coffee. Failing that, I just wasted $200. Also, do you have to wait two minutes between grindings so that your muscles don't overheat? That's a joke.
Could you do a comparison of this and the other 1zpresso grinders? I'm especially curious how this stacks against the K-plus.
I would love a video like this
And vs Q2 with Heptagonal (7 core) burrs
I think 1Zpresso used to have a comparison chart in their website. This one is a pretty old model and they say it is geared towards filter only, and cleaner than K-plus.
I also have kplus and am wondering about picking this up
I come, watch, hit like, then wait for the next video. Thanks
Those burrs look very similar to the Lido OG burrs but with much shorter cuts. I'd love to see this sold more widely. More diversity in burrs is a good thing!
agreed! and yes. They do look similar to an extent to the etzinger burrs in the lido, which are very good!
@@LanceHedrick Thank you! I’ve been saying for awhile how great those lido burrs are. I think they taste great for brewed coffee and are fantastic when used for espresso. Etzinger obviously knows what he is doing and Doug and Barb make a great product. Obviously they aren’t for everyone, but for ME I couldn’t be happier with my Pharos and Lido.
For espresso, where do you rank the Etzinger burrs compared to the Kinu M47 and K Plus? Is there a big noticeable different between them, for you?
