Love your personality really coming through in this video, just having fun with this machine. Also really love that you're helping people with lower budgets see how they can get some decent lattes. You don't need $1,000 for good home espresso drinks. Yay Lance!

It's funny. I just find myself nodding my head in agreement throughout your video. I too keep coming back to the V60. But most of my brewing is amount-based. If I'm brewing one cup for my wife and I, two V60s are perfect. Two cups apiece when we're relaxing, 10 cup Chemex. A single cup for just me, Aeropress. Coffee for four or more, Clever Dripper into a Yeti thermos. When I want something different and have the time, maybe French Press or Moca Pot. I home roast, and sometimes I'll brew the exact same batch four different ways just to watch my wife's reaction. 😅

I bought one, because I’ve been neglecting pour over because of all the nuance that I want to put into them but haven’t prioritized. I am excited to be able to delegate that nuance to a machine so I don’t have to, so I can enjoy more coffee with less time and energy.

i love the low acidity of cold brew, but the oxidation means that i have to be in the mood for it. Pilot has a brazilian blend coldbrew that i love, especially since a significant proportion of it is robusta. i love the strength and body that robusta offers, especially because it can stand up to the addition of a little oat milk. you try that with a specialty arabica and you lose everything that makes that coffee interesting. but as for the brazilian blend, it tasted exactly like an lightly sweetened fudge popsicle. (though i added no sugar) i love the chocolatey and nutty notes that most robustas are all about. i have never tried it with specialty arabica, but id have to agree that it doesnt sound appealing. that complex acidity is what so many people love about arabica.

Great vid Lance! What would you recommend for an Espresso focused hand grinder that specializes in LIGHT roasts? It seems that the grinders you say specialize in espresso here also thrive with slightly darker roasts. Is that ALWAYS the case? The nature of the beast when you’re dealing with different brew methods? Or are there any grinders that specialize in Spro and thrive best with lighter roasts?

100 percent agree out of the dozen or so grinders I have owned since 2000 I can definitively say there are flats that taste more like conicals and conicals that taste more like flat profiles. I really depends on the specific grinder the speed or speeds available the burrs and the size. That is why this is so difficult. Nothing definitive and consistent only generalizations. We basically understand in general terms conicals have more texture and body and less clarity and flavor separation. Flats tend to have less body and texture but more clarity and flavor separation. Flats tend to be better for Medium roast trending light to light roast. Conicals seem to do well with medium roast trending dark to dark roast. This is basically what we know today.. One interesting example was a hand grinder with small conicals had amazing clarity sweetness and clear definition.. I tried it one day for espresso and it shocked me.. I said nearly 15 years ago if some one could power a hand grinder with small conicals it may be a games changes and years later things like the langom mini exist because manufacturers figured out what I did many years ago.. Grateful for all the improvements and choices in grinders we have now. I feel like we are in the new golden era of grinding , the more we understand about grinding the better the grinders are.. Would like to see a top and bottom spinning flat bur with a static cone in the center.. It may be the everything grinder of the future.

Curious if you prefer these over the Weber EG1. I am looking to purchase something like this, but initially it will be only for filter coffee. Leaning towards EG1 with ULF burrs.

My Varia VS3 motor just failed after 11months of use. Great when it worked and looked good but now I have to shop for a new grinder. So here I am.

Hi Lance, so where does the use of an upper mesh puck screen fit in to pre-brewing feature? Which is better, using the screen and bypassing the pre-brew function, or not using the screen and using pre-brew? It seems it is redundant.

It's so true, always keep going back to the v60. Would love to see a couple recipes for home use with your average sort of grinders rather than the high end of us, like a video you done amnit too long ago, really valuable insight. Great content again 👍

I started with the Clever, got a year later an Aeropress and then got another year later a V60. I basically use twice per day my V60 and dont need anything else, I go back to the other two from time to time but yeah, the FOMO fever with every new brewer makes no sense.

If I'd be to strip my collection to the bare minimum I'd keep the Delter Press and Hario Switch base with the Hario Mugen ceramic upper. And if I'd be to keep just one brewer, I'd keep the Ceado Loop.

This machine seems to be targeted at those who don't have the time in the morning to stand in front of their coffee setup. While I love and appreciate the manual pour-over method, where I can measure and calculate for a perfect cup, the reality of getting two kids ready and helping my family get started means it's much easier to just add the beans and press a button. This way, I can use those extra 3-5 minutes to prepare for other things. This machine appears to be impressive, and I would personally love to own one. I plan to use my own purchased beans rather than pods. Unfortunately, I'm not in a financial position to afford this machine at the moment. It's a fantastic machine and the review helped me learn a lot about this machine. Although the video seems quite favorable towards the machine without much criticism, it was informative and I appreciate what I learned about it.

Just wondering if I might be about to bug you with a comparison question. How does the noise compare to the laughter of your child that reminds you of loved ones long passed? Is the grind more or less consistent than the waxing and waning of the moon? Does the espresso match the bittersweet tang of realising that at some point when you were a child your parent picked you up for the last time?

here's a big ask: could you maybe revisit this with the aeropress xl? not really possible to press for a minute with the first recipe (30g coffee 120g water). I also don't really know what I'm doing. This tastes different but I don't know if this is better or not. Also I'm using preground coffee because I don't have a grinder yet...
