  • Not super familiar with visual novels? Looking for some new VN’s to get from the various summer sales? Either way, this is the right video for y'all!
    I go over different titles that are great starters in different visual novel categories such as kinetic, gameplay, otome, and general VN’s! Hopefully you find something here that piques your interest!
    A new video is finally out, wew. My recording situation isn’t great so please excuse the birds you can hear chirping in the background rip.

    I would 100% recommended Our Life Beginnings on Steam! I have a soft spot for it as my introduction to visual novels and I find it’s story so sweet. It is a free game with an option to buy dlc, but even without the extra content there is so much to play!

    Personally for somebody playing VNs for the first time I'd recommend Danganronpa or Steins Gate.

    A lot of my favorite Anime are based on VNs, but the only one where the stuff I've heard about how the VN is different has made me want to play it is School Days. But School Days the game isn't on Amazon so how I do I even figure out how to play it and Shiny Days?

  • @camchem
    @camchem Před 3 lety +1

    Katawa Shoujo is another good beginner game. It’s incredible for a free game, and I frequently hear people site it as their introduction to visual novels. As long as you can get through the (admittedly a little slow) common route, the game is so good.
    Also, can we talk about the soundtrack for a second? The person who did the majority of the composing had very little experience, and was probably just using GarageBand. Yet there were such masterpieces like Moment of Decision and Wiosna.

      @ejenn-syahmixcel1730 Před 3 lety

      Well, I wont call F/SN is free as the publisher never intended to make it a freeware, but rather Type-Moon refusing to release an official English release coupled with it already put off from physical or digital Japanese market make most people consider pirating it an only viable option for now.
      But otherwise, yes quite good with beginners although kind of long, and for those who want to get into Fate, playing this would resolve 70% of the route order-unless you hate reading. The porn section can be switched off though (recent release don't even have them)

    Love how different this rec list was. Of course I still have to get around to the staples like saya no uta and planetarian. But I am adding the letter to my priority list. Looks really good. So far my kill count includes katawa shojo, doki doki, g-senjou no maou and grisaia. All which are damn good I’d say. Currently reading imhhw and it seems mostly aerodynamic educational slice of life. But it’s cute I suppose.

    That's some pretty new stuff recommendations. It seems a good recommendation for female audience though. The only ones that I'm into is just the two at the start, Saya no Uta and Planetarian. Personally, for male audience I would recommend something like Ever17, Evenicle, and Princess Evangile because they're better representation of what you can expect from the Japanese side of VNs (outside of Otome game - I have been interested to try them for a while, but haven't gotten into it, though Hakuoki looks interesting).
    Princess Evangile is the absolute average of romance galge you can expect from devs like YuzuSoft and Navel, Ever17 is a good intro to the sort of weird mindbending stories that 5pb (Steins;Gate) and Ryukishi07 (Higurashi, Umineko) that is fairly unique to the medium, and Evenicle is in all honesty the softest of all the games that can fall into the 'brutal' territory (I personally prefer Sengoku Rance from the same dev, but Rance is an acquired taste) that you can expect from devs like AliceSoft and NitroPlus.

    • @Sayadear
      @Sayadear  Před 5 lety +2

      It may for some! I based this on my personal experiences though :) I have a ton of friends who aren't really into visual novels yet, but they love Monster Prom and want to find more games like that. They've been looking into more VN's because of Monster Prom, which has been super exciting for me! But of course, it varies from person to person.

    • @ElioLappi
      @ElioLappi Před 5 lety +3

      Personally from playing Monster Prom with my friends, they have gotten them more interested in VN's because of it. And this is after trying hard to get them into stuff like Higurashi, Amnesia, and Hatoful since those are always seen as pretty beginner friendly. I will say games like Dangan Ronpa I think would turn people off from VN's more, and there's a ton of VNs with stat raising in them so it makes the transition a bit less rocky I think than more gameplay heavy. Another big bonus that it's highly replayable and multiplayer, and each session isn't too long, which has always been a big problem with getting people into the medium since it's a big time investment. Being able to play with other people, and how you can do little games with each other when deciding turn order, makes reading for an extended time seem a bit less daunting to someone not as used to it. But yea that's just my own experience.
