My second ever visual novel was actually The House in Fata Morgana (the only one I played prior was the Danganronpa trilogy). At the time, I only really knew about the most famous visual novels (like 999, Higurashi, Umineko, some of the ones that got anime adaptations, etc...) but happened upon a video of someone who recommended Fata Morgana (which I had never even heard of) and was really intrigued. The art was so gorgeous and different, plus the genre seemed right up my alley. Still one of my favorite games I've ever played.

Thank you so much! And yeah generally otome games are aimed at a female audience, but that doesn't mean that other people can't enjoy them too! Sometimes they're just trashy romance with no real substance (which isn't a bad thing), but it's the same way that plenty of games aimed at men are :) Sometimes though they have more intricate stories that anyone can feel invested in! Totally just depends on the game!

Thanks, and woah it's great to hear that I'm not alone! I'd say it's mostly because it was around the time I entered college, and social pressure made me feel like I couldn't enjoy things I loved like cosplay or VNs. That, and the transition between highschool and college was a lot to take in on top of having way less free time. I'm glad to be getting back into them again though!

As a kid I used to enjoy those choose your own adventure books that give you multiple choices, and I just randomly googled for something like that on pc one day, and bam, i'm a huge fan of VN's now. The main difference would be that you’d have new insight. I still feel like it’s worth it, but definitely not for everyone.

RIGHT?? It's so good! I even bought it on Steam after it was released there just so I could replay it! Definitely my favorite otome game of all time, it's just such a great experience. I unfortunately wasn't a huge fan of the sequel, Ashen Hawk, but it had some cool elements to it.

@@NathFBrito Psyschedelica of the Ashen Hawk, the sequel, is currently only on Vita, but there's a future Steam release they're working on! They initially said spring, buuuut it's now May so we'll see when it actually comes out. There are some parts of it that really shine, mainly the protagonist, but the writing is sort of flimsy and there are wayyyy more plotholes and pointless plot points than Black Butterfly. In Black Butterfly, it felt like everything had a reason for existing. Ashen Hawk wasn't the same way, but it still is pretty well received by most people so you may like it!

if u like VNs about people waking up in creepy mansions with no memories (with a mix of romance ofc) I recommend Soulset. The art is not especially pleasing to the eye, but the plot is amazing.

I don't think Danganronpa v3 is better then Danganronpa 2 but I definitely think it's better then Danganronpa 1. It has better style, better gameplay and the Characters feel like they actually interact with each other, while the first game feels like some of the Characters are just jokes and they never make relationships with anyone else.
I can totally see what you mean! I just definitely have a lot of sentimental value tied to Danganronpa 1, and I find myself sort of more drawn to how toned down the cast is. I love crazy over the top stuff, but sometimes v3 is a little too much for me and the first game felt like it told the message it needed to tell in a simple, concise way (while still being pretty wild, but tastefully so). Again, I ultimately like all three of the main games! I just find v3 to be my least favorite because it has my least favorite cast, ending and overall story. The characters were a little too themed for me and didn't really feel quite believable enough (but also, that isn't to say that Danganronpa is meant to be a series that's realistic LMAO). Not a bad game by any means! And my opinion here is totally subjective and just reflects what I personally like c:
