The Porsche 986 Boxster and 996 Carerra have partial mechanical and electronic door locks. There is no key hole on the passenger side. The electrical part switches the door lock on the passenger side as well as controls the alarm the same as the key fob (remote), When this breaks or bends it can cause lock or unlock issues, this has caused me issues as it would lock but not unlock. Initially it was just a bent rod, but then the guts of the key cylinder broke. This is a cheap part to replace, I however got the parts to do it myself for cheap.
The Window not rolling up was an issue when I had my seat out and didn't reconnect one of the plugs, hense the double beep signaling a fault in the system. Its not locking/unlocking the passenger door. Luckily my alarm module is good and just had to reconnect the plugs that weren't connected.
Hope this helps.
Thank you Joshua. You have the most helpful video that I hVe found with regard to this problem. Very much sppreciated
Thank you, mine just broke this morning
Kind or ridiculous that you show everything *except* the disassembly / reassembly of the lock cylinder itself. You edited out the disassembly, and then -- as an aid to frustration, I suppose -- you simply state that reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.
I was saying the same thing, went away and came back and it was disassembled and the same for back together. Skipped the most important steps both times
You didn’t show how to take the lock apart, please show
This is helpful, I had the same problem. 🙏 Thanks.
I did the repair of the broken pieces. I forgot to test the door lock like your doing here with the screwdriver. Issue is I reinstalled everything and key will NOT turn at all even though out of the car it works fine. Could that piece be stuck making it not be able to turn? Thanks.
Great tips. My 1999 996 driver door will lock by turning the key or pressing the fob, but takes 5-10 tries before it will unlock. Looks like I may have the same issue you had. Were you able to replace the spring/parts around the lock cylinder without having to replace the actual cylinder itself? A new cylinder would mean new keys too which would be expensive.
Fantastic video, you're thinkin passenger door won't lock due to dirty contact? I've had this problem since I bought my 01 996.; assumed immobilizer. Now my lock internals just took a shit. What's the quickest way to obtain these critical internal lock parts?? Does Woody have an email? Thanks!!!!
Cleaning contacts in the switch is a great thing to do. I haven't yet. However my issue wasn't dirty contacts. It was the Bar that goes from the Key Lock, to the Lock Switch, Its made of a cheap metal, and bent. So it would unlock just fine but wouldn't lock. So I replaced all the parts there, while keeping my lock cylinder setup for my oem key. The next thing if that fails, which you can test it all out by removing the door handle, and using a flathead to turn the switch left or right for lock and unlock. IS to clean contacts inside it.
Dude. The vw repair kit costs 2.20 US
Really? My door lock isn’t functioning either I need to fix it ASAP
Hello, watching your video. I have the same problem. You mentioned Woody’s in Texas for the parts. What was the exact vendor name? I would like to order for my car. Thank you
I honestly don't know anything anymore. This was so long ago, I no longer have the Porsche. Woody might still be around but he would be known as Woodys Porsche parts.
Thank you I really appreciate it. I’ll try and look him up. Thx
Hey. Were you able to get rid of the double beep sound? If yes, how did u fix it?
That is the warning that it cannot perform the function.
I have the same problem, i dont know where can i get that fix kit
It's just spare parts from a working cylinder.
I fixed mine but I don’t know why the alarm kept off Al the time
my 1999 911 door lock will lock fine, but to unlock the key just spins counter clockwise. In your opinion is the problem going to be the pieces that you replaced, or the lock module itself (the part you stick the flat head into to lock/unlock?)
I have the exact same problem now, did you figure it out?
What is the exact name of the part I have to replace? Thank you again 😊
Honestly I don't know. It's all part of the cylinder and the actual shaft that bends, I really don't know. But been thinking of making steel replacements one day
would you have a link where to order just that part please ? I have the same issue but all I can find is the whole assembly for $246.
eBay store called Quality Porsche Parts located in Albuquerque, NM. They were all used parts. But good condition unlike mine. The rod I replaced it with has already bent and caused issues again so I'm going to machine a stainless version that won't bend
@@jagray85 found it for $5 on ebay. Thank you!
Wow this was like giving birth amigo. After 3 hours finally found the way all parts go back in. I also bought most of my parts from Woody, cool guy in Bastrop Tx. My left movement (lock) is kinda stuck. Any tip on how to loose it? Will try some grease for now. Have all other parts with me in case. Any tips? Thanks amigo to you I got all parts back.
José Luis Rodríguez, Jr. Yes I usually get my parts from Woody. He's been amazing. I still have to clean my door lock switch on the inside since it's still not locking the pass side and arming the alarm. We'll it does but only at random. So we figured the switch inside the door is just dirty and not making full contact. It's either that or the ignition switch. I've heard that can be a problem with a lot of things.
Have you checked the passenger locking mechanism? Mine wasn't closing neither and it was the passenger side mechanism. Woody, swapped and done! Good luck!
José Luis Rodríguez, Jr. Driver side isn't sending the signal.
Hi josh, can you send me the link to buy the same part?
I don't have a link. I just bought a used door lock parts on ebay at qualityporscheparts and used the parts to fix my lock cylinder
@@jagray85 thanks for reply
hey... where did you get the parts ? i neeed a new rod
Itsnotanova from 986forum.com he has a ton of Porsche being parted out. Super good guy.
I think I may have the same problem I have a 1999, 996. Can anyone get me a part number?
Same thing here, did you ever figure it out?
Pathedic Porsche high tech engineering. No manual locks inside like every modern car. Don't see the logic behind any of Porsche's design other than to frustrate owners to the point of bringing their car to the dealer and pay a fortune to tepair. I'll stick with classic Porsches.
