They are preying on senior homeowners whose homes are paid off. Giving us grant monies to rebuild our homes, which BTW should not be paid back if funds were used as intended to rebuild homes. After homes rebuilt & knowing we are penniless after losing everything we own & cannot afford to pay attorneys to fight FEMA or State suing us, they want to seize our paid off homes knowing the money they gave us was used & there is no money to pay FEMA or State grants back. FEMA had Texas Dept of Justice sue me & I told DA, go ahead & sue me & let's go to trial. I was Whistleblower, with lots of legal experience & any Jury who heard about this lawsuit would award me damages. Also I just happen to be filing for Bankruptcy. The DA response, "How Convenient" as she knew she could no longer come after my home. But later found out I was receiving SS & decided Treasury Dept upon orders from FEMA would garnish my SS benefits & added $15,000 dollars on top of grant monies I received for penalties & interest fees. This is Ponzi scheme government is doing preying upon those who cannot afford legal assistance...government gives u grant, u fix your home & if you don't pay them back cash, they seize our homes & profit by selling our homes & adding $15K or more for their bonuses & collection fees...doing all this by leaving us homeless again. I was lucky since I filed bankruptcy which stopped Dept of Justice/ FEMA from Civil forfeiture of my home.

Grants are free. You do not have to pay them back. That’s the whole point of a grant. This seems like a clear attack against BP, especially those that are naive, elderly or uneducated.

The deep state is working overtime since Trump had thrown a wrench in there running plans. Lots of CZcamsrs claimed they needed the money to keep on staff. For some of them the gov is taking a second look. It was meant to keep people employed when income ability was down due to isolation requirements. I don’t know how I feel about this. The ones asking for the money are democrats. Are they not supposed to be the champions of the poor? Democrat governor and Democrat President. The feds gave the money and state managed the program. But it said right there on the paper it was to lift the house. Is a retired social worker poor? Appears to make more than most people. Racist politicians!
A similar thing happened to me and fellow scholars, on a much smaller monetary scale, but the practice was essentially the same.
I and a group of about 24 other BLACK students attended LSU on a full scholarship. We were given vouchers to cover the costs of books and supplies. Most students bought items like desk lamps AFTER buying the necessary books for our courses. Around three days after our purchases we were told we had to return any items that were not books or pay back the costs for those items.
I was incensed! I argued to the bitter end that a desk lamp was an educational tool and therefore shouldn't be held against students. I further argued, nothing has been said or written about any item being forbidden from purchase prior to purchasing the items. It was so blatantly hateful. My older sister threatened the coordinators with legal action. We didn't go through with it, nor did I pay the money back or return the lamp.
The following semester the lamp amount was deducted from my financial aid, but there was balance in the universe. With scholarship and grant money, I walked away with several hundred dollars AFTER everything was paid.
It was racism at it's core.

Then they use their ill-gotten gains pitting us against each other, so we blame each other instead of the ones that actually take from us. I'm an old white lady and everyone i know would have bought you a lamp if you asked especially if you said it would help you with your education. It's not a race thing friend. The rich know they can't get hundreds, thousands of people to leave their families every day to make their world better unless those hundreds, thousands believe everyone hates them for this or that. The more divided we are the richer they get. When we unite, we never do without as we all help each other reach our full potential and prosper greatly having done so. Only a fool would deny a lamp for a student that contributes time and energy towards making the future of our species wiser.

The Citizens didnt tell them how much or under what conditions to give the money, the Representatives did and because they did it wrong they want to pass the blame to the people who accepted the help.

There should have been state officials checking on these building projects to ensure guidelines were being followed. The government always claim that they are going to help you, but it always seems to end up costing the taxpayers more than what they started out with. I remember during the George W Bush administration they gave everyone below a certain income level $500-$1000 ( I can’t remember the exact amount), but it was to stimulate spending in America and help businesses that could end up closing. Well when we got the payments I put it into my bank account to spend for Christmas that year. When we had to pay our taxes for that year, it was included in our federal taxes and we had to pay taxes on it. My understanding was that there was not any taxes on that money. So instead of saying they gave us $400 (after taxes), it was all over the news that the payment was $500. Nothing is ever free from the government there is always some strings attached.

The ICF, well that's what happens when you outsource work to private companies. They gave people the wrong information, and it's not the home owner's fault. The state probably wants the repaired homes, so that they can sell them to developers.

That's it! Easy to blame the administrators from the private company for not doing their job properly and sue their own citizens for millions, than just owning up to their mistake. It's a huge waste of taxpayers' money, but hey! If it means they'll be able to get rid of lower income citizens to bring in high income ones by selling the land to developpers, it's a win!
