      Actually, there aren't any studies. We know for a fact that alcohol is deleterious to a fetus. No ethics board would ever approve of an experiment we already know will cause harm. If it was given the go ahead, you wouldn't be able to get enough pregnant subjects to have a decent sample size.

    • @lukejposadas
      @lukejposadas Před 5 lety +2

      @@aaronbrown8377 we most certainly do know what the effects of different substances have on newborns, their are more than enough cases of babies being born addicted to drugs to have good sample sizes. Obviously using any substance when pregnant is detrimental to the baby's health. There are many factors deciding just how dangerous however, such ad type of drug(or alcohol) all the way to length of use and how often/close to birth did the mothers abuse said substances. Either way, if a pregnant mother uses substances while pregnant they should be charged with child abuse. On the other side if an addict finds out they are pregnant and want to quit on behalf of their children then more power to them, let's get them all the help they can need!

    Regardless of the substance, any substance abuse as a pregnant mother should be treated as child abuse. That being said, if an addict finds out she is pregnant and looks for help more power to her, and there are programs for this. I was around drugs for a long time and nothing made me more upset than when a pregnant mother would continue using their drug of choice, they should be punished and charged with child abuse. To the mothers that stopped turned to their doctors for help and gave up everything for their babies, God bless!

    A baby doesn’t have the psychological ability to be addicted to anything. Use the correct term which is dependent.

  • @thelittleredhairedgirlfrom6527

    Crack babies are real but people definitely overreacted. I know some kids that were exposed to drugs and alcohol as fetuses and they are definitely not “normal” and never will be, but they definitely aren’t nearly as bad as these people said. They go to school like normal people and can hold conversations to an extent. It’s certainly not an ideal situation and I can wholly see why one should change someone for inflicting such birth defects on their children, but that applies to any parents who abuse substances while their children are in the womb.

    • @callies8907
      @callies8907 Před 5 lety +11

      "Drugs and alcohol" isn't crack babies. Every single substance is going to have a different impact on a developing fetus. Alcohol has more detrimental, and different, effects on babies than cocaine does, or heroin, or Xanax. Crack, in the end, was not found to have nearly the impact initially reported (and absolutely not the impact of more common drugs, like alcohol), and demonizing pregnant addicts did no help to them or their babies. Charging them doesn't get them the help they need, and taking minority women's babies away willy-nilly causes attachment disorders and lifelong emotional problems.

    • @thelittleredhairedgirlfrom6527
      @thelittleredhairedgirlfrom6527 Před 5 lety +6

      Callie S I see where you’re coming from, but I find irresponsible at best that a mother who actively uses drugs and alcohol during pregnancy would be allowed to have full time custody of her children, regardless of race.

    • @callies8907
      @callies8907 Před 5 lety +41

      Arresting and jailing women who are addicted to drugs doesn't help those kids. They get tossed into the foster system, where they lose out on necessary bonding and develop attachment disorders. Blaming addicts, like these women just decided to do crack for kicks, is not helping anyone. It's only further stigmatizing pregnant addicts and makes them less likely to tell doctors and staff about their use, keeping them and their kids from actually getting the care they need. It isn't child abuse, its being sick.

    • @everettlopez9127
      @everettlopez9127 Před 5 lety +27

      It is abusive and harmful toward the children, but it's not really something you can solve through the legal system. It's important to keep in mind that many of these pregnant women who became drug addicts aren't just stupid and irresponsible. Many probably came from families of addicts, where they grew up surrounded by drug use, or became pregnant accidentally without access to safe abortion or birth control (which happens to poor women a lot). What I'm saying is that there are a lot of factors that go into drug use and pregnancy, which do not just boil down to a women being stupid and irresponsible, and people need to understand that. A lot of my friends were born to parents on drugs, and I know that none of them would have been better off if their mothers had been imprisoned. What would've helped was better social services and support, but whether or not someone thinks drug addict parents deserve those services and support often comes down to how they view the parents themselves; either as people who made bad choices but were also severely disadvantaged by circumstance, or as stupid people who just decided to have a kid and didn't want to stop using drugs. In general, drug addicted parents fall into the first category.

      Nick Young but Abortion is legal

    • @everettlopez9127
      @everettlopez9127 Před 5 lety +1

      hi pumkineater69 abortion IS technically legal, but often difficult to get for poor women, and women in certain areas. I'm not sure about the situation back then, but today there are some states where extremely harsh and unnecessary regulations have been passed on abortion clinics so that only a sparse few are left, and now there are some states with no abortion clinics at all. If you can't make the trip because you're too young to drive, or you don't have the money, or your family would become suspicious and abusive if you left, (all situations a young woman who fell victim to addiction might find herself in) then that makes access to safe abortion significantly harder. It's one of those rights that exists on paper, but material access to it is limited.
