  • Flying The Drone Is A No No - British Steel The Return Of The Dread Drone - DJI Mini 2
    Today I make a return to British Steel at Scunthorpe, and what a day it was.
    The Security were brilliant, not like last time, they did call the Police, but that was due to orders from the boss man

      The only reason you muppets fly this toy drone is to cause an interaction with people the most of which have no clue on drone aviation laws
      It’s I’m putting the drone up na na na because the law is so small and non complex even a muppet auditor can understand it banking on the fact no one else does who the hell wants to view empty car parks all about money from u tube

    Fantastic audit. The young security guy is great and still learning his role he’s very pleasant each morning when we arrive at the gates, he gives us a smile and wave which would make anyone smile at hat time in a morning. As for the other too gents they were respectful and courteous with only the instructions they were given thumbs up to you too also. It did show they didn’t and wasn’t sure what to say but tried to understand what PJ was doing and I thought that was good. This site is huge and you guys have only seen a very small amount in this video which was produced perfectly by PJ . It’s quite interesting how many sections of the site go into making the steel and also the bye products that are made from coke making which is renewable energy that we use to power the site . Electricity/steam/gas and many more .

    Lovely security official. Even if he wasn't sure. No ego. No pride. Just lovely. I wish all security personnel where like this lovely lad. Companies should employ people like him. Pay attention. He is awesome for representing company security. He is just doing his job and enquiring if he isn't sure. And that's what I like about this person. And yet he so refreshingly pleasant to be in his presence... British Steel... You have a golden grade security person. He deserves a pay rise. He has represented British Steel better than most ambassadors and diplomats. In fact. I would employ him immediately and take him from British Steel. Of course with a higher salary than British Steel could offer. In fact. All the security had perfect attitudes. And straight forward. I think British Steel could use there security as role models for other companies and also to help educate and train security personnel.

    26:18. The four blast furnaces are named Mary, Bess, Anne and Victoria. They dont make steel, they produce iron. The iron is transferred by torpedo via rail to the BOS (Basic Oxygen Steel) Plant which is just visible in the background (huge square building). There, the iron is converted into steel, before its sent to Concast (Continuous Casting),.

    21:55 If security call the police one thing that needs to be said to them is that if they find that there is nothing wrong, then they are liable for a possible civil claim. And if the police unlawfully arrest you, like they nearly did in the previous video, then they are liable for a possible civil claim too. So they can still call the police if they feel they have no option, but they better check their facts before they do so, then on their heads be it.

    28:05 When certain groups demand that we shut down all coal mines, but at the same time demand that we should have local (as in the UK) steel making facilities, this is what they don't understand. We need the coal mines to dig up the coal to make the coke that makes the steel.

    HI PJ, back in the sixties this steel works was named appleby frodingham, i used to go there very day from carlisle to pick up basic slag
    which was used as fertiliser to put on grassland, its size then was over 1,000 acres, drive straight in and back out no question's asked.

  • @stevezodiac491
    @stevezodiac491 Před 2 lety +1

    That bloke who is advising you, doesn't know what he is talking about. The blast furnaces you were looking at make iron, not steel. Iron is much higher in carbon content and is the feed stock, once made, to go into a basic oxygen steel making plant, generally taken there by torpedo ladles. Once at the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking plant, the carbon content in the iron is reduced and several other additions are added to make the steel. The type and quantity of the additions, depends on what type of steel is required by the customer. In the process of making the iron, gas is given off and collected in the gas holder to the right, the blast furnace gas holder. The blast furnace gas has a calorific value of about 2 mj / m3 if basic iron is produced. The gas holder to the left is from the coke ovens and has a calorific value of about 18 mj / m3. Generally the blast furnace gas is used to warm up the blast air stoves to about 1300 degrees c on the gas cycle, before the heat developed in the stove is used on the blast cycle, to blast air from the power station blowers, then heated as the air passes through the pre heated stoves, then through the bustle main, then through pipes called tuyeres and then through the furnace burden to make the iron. Coke oven gas is generally used on the blast furnace as pilots or / and addtional fuel gas on the stoves. Coke oven gas is also used to heat troughs and runners prior to slag and iron running through them also to prevent water which may be entrained in the sand runner liners, from evaporating rapidly and causing an iron / slag explosion and breakout. I believe that there is a further gas holder at Scunthorpe for BOS gas collection as well. Looking closer at your drone footage, you can actually see another gas holder in the far distance, this must be the BOS gas collection holder, next to what must be the BOS plant.

    In the summer months you can actually get a ticket to have a tour around the works on a steam train that they own and maintain. You get a full tour round the works and drinks and butties in the glass house at the end. The platform is just to your left past the big ladle you see when you are stood at that entrance where you were talking to the security.
