Demeter didn’t understand that Persephone belonged in the Underworld if she was truly the Goddess of Spring. Most people know the transition between Life to Death, but Persephone represented Death to Life. She’s the adjacent side of a cycle everyone wants to ignore.

Percy Jackson was also western-based belief and not relating to the core culture origin story.
Western media completely portrays Hades as a bad guy when in the true origin context that the God of Underworld is among the tamer of the three brothers. The writer of Percy Jackson just made him like Satan. A lot of the setting in the book are really just poorly depiction where the western world see it as it is in narrow-minded facts.

@@rogueascendant6611 The author of Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan, made Hades simply ominous and a bit creepy. In the series, he is not seen as evil or even mean. He was simply bitter and resentful towards his family because nobody liked him, due to the fact that he rules over the underworld. In Percy Jackson, he is not seen as evil at all.

the story of Persephone and Demeter's demands reflect very loudly on how father's arranged marriages in ancient Greece. The mothers didn't have any official voice BUT the threat of never seeing a daughter again after they were married off was very real and because women were rather isolated to the home sphere, being separated from their children was very real, and thus could ruin the marriage between the parents of the marriagable daughter

Demeter was older than Dionysus. They were the two great gods of the Earth.
Metaneira, a mother herself, comforted Demeter in Persephone’s absence. In fact, Demeter nursed one of Metaneira’s children. She doted on the child and anointed him with ambrosia on a daily basis. Demeter’s attachment to the child alarmed Metaneira, and the two ultimately went their separate ways.
Still angry over the abduction of Persephone, Demeter subjected the world to famine. Zeus sent the gods to Demeter one by one to try and bring her out of her despondency. Demeter and Persephone were ultimately reunited at Zeus’s decree.
Demeter was granted four months per year with Persephone; her daughter would remain with Hades for the remaining months.
Men called Demeter the “Good Goddess” despite the desolation she had brought about as a result of her grief.
She named Triptolemus her ambassador to men.
She taught Triptolemus and Celeus her sacred rites.
In ancient art, Demeter was pictured wearing a wreath made of ears of corn.
The snake and the pig were sacred to her.
The torch is often depicted in connection with Demeter because of her persistent search for Persephone.
Demeter came to Eleusis during the reign of King Erechtheus of Athens

Regarding 9:24 the ancient Greeks’ belief of the Seasons and which months of the year did Persephone spend in the Underworld with Hades. We know nowadays that Winter in the Northern Hemisphere is Summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Therefore crops grow and flowers bloom year round depending on their geographic location and the latitude of the season that is occurring.

    • @vaggos013
      @vaggos013 Před 5 lety +2

There was no possibility for them of course, some centuries BC, to know that there is a south hemisphere where there is an opposite season. Another belief about winter and summer in ancient Greek beliefs is that god Apollo (who is also god of solar light) during winter was leaving, the geographical region where Greece is, for the mythical land of Hyperborea which was perfect, with the sun shining twenty-four hours a day (maybe a knowledge about the Arctic Circle during the Midnight Sun-time).

I love Demeter I always wanted to give her a hug after hearing about how Zeus let Heads take Persephone from her but I feel like Zeus should have talked to Demeter about this but just like a jackass Zeus almost got all of humanity killed

I would honestly love that if it's what it truly means. So many endless possibilities. What is your opinion on Christianity being a myth?? I mean because we have nothing to support that God does or does not exist, and just like with the ancient Greeks they'd say like when there was an earthquake that mean one of the gods/goddesses were angry and some people say the same about God. Like in the oh so famous flooding the earth.... real smooth move keeping your cool there God lol joking..... but have you ever thought of it as a possible myth that is just what we nowadays tend to believe in like the ancient Greeks??

Do the Dark Tower series! I think there's eight volumes in the book series (don't know much about the comic version), so there's a lot of material to cover, especially since a lot of Stephen King's other works are connected to it in various ways.

My take is that Demeter just didn't want Persephone to grow up. There is mention about her refusing to allow suitors to court her daughter at all. One way of looking at this is a controlling mother dominating her young daughter.
