Debug + Exploring Cutscenes - Sonic Adventure 2

I finally figured out a way to move around in SA2's cutscenes in the Dreamcast version!
Before we start exploring I took some time to explain the debug mode I used, since I didn't know it had so much the last time I covered it. Skip to 15:04 if you just want to see the messing around part!
Event Debug disc download:

Now this is running in a prototype, so you may come across bugs:
- If the subtitles just display colored boxes, fast forward until the scene loops and it should stop eventually. This tends to happen in larger scenes like E0025 more. Alternatively, disable them with 2C0C5337.
- If the screen screws up when starting a scene, reset the game.
- If the button combos don't work it's due to a bug with 30 FPS scenes. Set 2C2331D4 to 1 and it should start working.
(All addresses are Demul, subtract FFE0000 for NullDC addresses or use 8C for console ones)
I was originally going to talk about something else in this vid too, but this one got way too long so that has to go into its own vid now.
Don't worry about the audio dips, that's just Demul being Demul. Also I recorded at 1x res again because it's less annoying to do, and some scenes had to be recorded at lower FPS in-game because they slowed down a bunch at 60.

Lines up, Tails has a history of being way more violent than you'd expect from a small child. Just play _Tails' Adventure_ and see how many people he throws _actual bombs_ at to protect his forest from... fire... like the kind his bombs would probably make. Yeah. xD
This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. It looks cartoonish, the way his neck and head are all bent out of shape but his arm slowly creeps towards the emerald anyway.

I always loved seeing how a game was made.... I love learning the stupid quirks devs used to save space and/or time more. Seeing derp eyed characters, dead eyed Tails, and Sonic’s head just enlarge onto the scene with his body and eyes just casually strolling in is just hilarious!

If I recall correctly, CodeNameGamma did a video of this nature on _Sonic Forces._ It also does shenanigans with parts of cutscenes you're not normally able to see. But I think this is better because _Sonic Adventure_ and _2_ naturally are far jankier than the modern stuff. The new stuff is still janky as hell, but they at least polish it up a bit. This is just warts-'n'-all, and I love it.

Wow, looks like this video was a lot of work especially making that disc to explore cutscenes work. Also the editing in this one was pure gold. 22:31 is the best part XD. Thanks for making this video. It was really interesting to see how SA2's cutscenes were made, I actually appreciate these cutscenes even more than I did before because the developers seemed to have used a lot of tricks to make the cutscenes work but the end result is still amazing to this day. Looking forward to the next video. ^_^
