Roll Tide boys! Yall ever find many old mines in shelby county? I grew up in Alabaster (Maylene). We moved to Bama from west Virginia in '92 for... You guessed it, new coal mines opening up in western/central Shelby county
Lived in Shelby county for a while. Found a “cave” that I believe may have been remnants of a mine in around 2014. I don’t remember the exact location but it was in springville. We had to use a ladder to get down and it was full of water.
Theres an area up by me that has a bunch of small workings. Probably private business or family owned. One of the drifts only goes in about 20 feet. Another one is about 30, Y's and another 15 or so. A 5 minute car ride and you can be at a mine that has miles of workings. All of it is rad though. All of them have an individual story to tell.
I would definitely have nice big coal fires in every room if I lived near there! 😂 it would be so cool to have access to a mine like that just to run a home from.
Small but solid and colorful.Nice big vein!
That one would make a great shelter.Doesnt look to robbed at all.
That's what she said....

Looks like a coal hole what we called lt in Pennsylvania was for house coal you would even find them in the basement of houses
The Sandstone instability is most likely the reason that mine was not worked more

What I'm thinking it was one's own private source.... Not sure when "Mineral Rights" got put on deeds?
