  • On this episode, Glowstick films and I drop down into an open airshaft to explore and search for new passages within this mine. It’s a back breaker with average headroom around 4ft high, thus naming it the hole to hell

Ceilings for the most part looked very solid and well preserved for the mines age ! Being undocumented made the reconnaissance even more exciting and interesting.

Another amazing and interesting look inside the days of yesteryear. BTYW, would it be possible to look into the No. 6 Ore Mine in Muscoda? My dad worked in that mine.

The new property owners buried Muscoda 6 entirely.

I loooove the thought of exploring deep dark windy constricted caves. Am I broken?

Amazing. As primitive as it looks there are people working in worse mines today for probably the same pay in Africa. It makes you grateful for what we have.

Curious….Why with this coal mine…and possible others like it, did they blast the drifts with SUCH limited headroom; which surely was so utterly COUNTER PRODUCTIVE in terms of coal extraction efficiency, etc? It seems that in most hard rock mines the headroom allowed miners (of that period - admittedly probably shorter than now) to stand up!

Well done. However, you would better be carefull in such chimneys and would wear hemet. Especially if there are more people consecutivelly moving through it. Even small falling rocks can be dangerous if you cannot hide anywhere from their direction of fall...

I hope you tell someone outside of the mine exactly which mine you're going in and how long you should be gone
