After 7 rounds US Championship Hans Niemann is sitting in 12th place out of 13. Losing 3 times last 4 games.
Hans is playing very poorly now... itâs almost as though somethings missing from his usual vibe ;)
He became 2500 player without it, and with it he become 2900 player.

Okay found an Norwegian article about Canute (Knud) and other viking chess cheating scandals:
-King Canute of Denmark and Norway played against his brother in law Ulf Jarl, Roskilde (Denmark) year 1026.
It appears to have been a friendly match that allowed for take backs (up to interpretation).
The King makes af move with his knight, immediately realized that it was a bad move and want to take it back.
Ulf insult Canute for his lack of courage and a heated discussion followers.
King Canute have Ulf put to death for his vile insults (and not allowing take back I guess).
Niemann isn't cheating. Niemann is just testing the vibration level like back in the 90's.

Decipher the move? Would a titled player need more than what piece to move? The number of moves it could make would often be limited so I would think a hint like that rather than the full move would be sufficient and they could do the rest of the work.

Considering there is prize money in some tournaments, cheating in chess is basically stealing. Prison time seems reasonable to me. If you stole huge amount of money in some other way you would go to jail.

In the Netherlands where I'm from I played tournaments in the early eighties as a kid and sometimes I did rather well so I ended up against the strongest players and one time someone was caught using those big chess devices on batteries against me on the toilet and I was very surprised when they told me. And even more surprised that a couple of years later he had become one of the youngest grandmasters ever i my country đAlso at my club a very talented 12yo kid was caught using such a device. I can also remember someone cheated while playing the Russian grandmaster Petrosjan in those exhibitions where they played blind against many players simultaneously and after the match won by the former world champion he told his competitor he was using such a device as well. I played as well and of course I lost đ

I wonder what this does to Kasparov's legacy? And that was at Linares -- if you're capable of cheating at that event, you'll cheat anywhere you can get away with it. If there's evidence against Niemann it will out, but that's no reason not to act where there's no doubt.
If someone writes the history of milking topics about chess on the internet, Hikaru will be in all the pages.

The difference between the 1970s-1990s where the Russians might have a team analyzing and then potentially giving moves to their player, is that now those âanalystsâ instead of being fallible humans not as good as the lead player, are now a 3800 ELO computer engine that is essentially infallible.

cheating is fucking cheating, why try to diminish the severity, the end goal is the same: unfair play. It's fucking cheating and just as equally as dishonest and disrespectful. Russia doesn't just cheat in chess either, they've been banned worldwide throughout alot of sports i.e. the Olympics, multiple times. Also, Karjakin paying off arbiters to get his GM norms.

He does appear to have a possibly legitimate 2500 rating & clearly talented but 7 (SEVEN) players RANKED LOWER than HANS are AHEAD of him in the U.S. Championship. He is currently â2nd from LASTâ.
Wait... who considers him the greatest chess player of all time? So far all i've read is this quote by ChessCom "Hans is the fastest rising top player in Classical OTB chess in modern history." That doesn't mean he's the greatest, but that he's had the fastest ascension of all players.

It shows better OTB Strength Improvement over ages 11-19, that doesnt mean he is BETTER or will be the GREATEST in 'x' years. Is it suspicious? Sure, but Vincent Keymer (still 17 years old) also has a better OTB Strength Improvement from 11-19 y/o than Magnus Carlsen. Does that mean he is going to have a better career than Carlsen? Maybe, but probably not. Also again like i mentioned before, nobody has claimed he is the greatest chess player of all time (or even on pace to be).

Not mentioning Kasparov being filmed at a tournament straight up taking back a move and then denying it, the only modern case of proven cheating OTB is a bigger omission, don't you think?
At some point will not players who have practiced against chess programs develop moves/strategies based on their experiences against those programs? Practicing against a future opponent based on his/her previous games using a chess program could result in learning strategies that are not documented in previous published games. In short, could this (learning based on working with chess programs) not become a new normal?

Make-believe. Google doesn't use AlphaZero anymore, so the author likely used Lc0.
According to the TCEC the big 3 (Lc0, Stockfish, and Komodo) are all around 3600 when run on the exceptional TCEC hardware. Maybe they would be 4000 on significantly stronger hardware, but it's already incredibly difficult to get even a TCEC level machine.
@@hermetrix7035 and yet if you visit the Stockfish channel on youtube you'd know right now Stockfish elo is around 3800 and alphazero just had a new version come out in the last few weeks that took it from also being 3800ish to being 4000.
