Aegis is one of that albums that helps you sail the darkest waves of life and gives you hope, pure magic! I miss this band
The way I found out about this album and band was magical: I was 18 years old and I was in an art museum in my city watching an exhibition, it was almost empty that day, there were almost no people. That museum has a basement floor, something like a basement where there was a photography workshop (photography courses were held there). I was on the first floor looking at paintings and suddenly I began to hear incredible music coming from the basement, to the point of encouraging me to go down the stairs. I went down and asked the guy who was there what he was listening to and he (with his look somewhere between gothic and bohemian and an unfriendly attitude, with an expressionless face) directly showed me the album and let me write down the name and the name of the band. A few days later I went to get it at a record store that at that time recorded CDs so that one could get music more cheaply. In my musical exploration, Aegis was a before and after in my life.

Some of the most poetic music I've ever heard in my life.
1998 I heard the song Aœde for the first time. It was on a self-made collection CD. I must say it was a profound experience that made me want the whole album. An album that I found to be a masterpiece which no band has ever been able to outshine in 25 years.

Aegis & October Rust... I remember buying them both at same time... (oooh what a time the late 90's were) peeling the plastic off the CD's perplexed at which one I'd like more.
20+ years later... I now own multiple copies of both on multiple types of media and listen to either almost daily.

I was never that into gothic metal but I had a period when Aegis and especially the song Venus was on constant repeat in my room back in the day. After that I got more into Theatre of Tragedy and Siebenbürgen for a short period. Feels so good to come back to this album again even if I'm still not that into the subgenre, Theatre of Tragedy is a big part of my music upbringing.

Thanks for the upload and particularly for the lyrics. These lyrics appears to be English from the era of at least Shakespeare or maybe even older. I understand much of them and can guess what some of the rest might mean, but there are quite a few outliers. I list some from the song Siren : "Ryking" (an earlier form of "riding"?*), "Skirl and skreigh" (?!?! ... no freaking clue, like _at all_ ), " 'Od! - the foetid - eft hie back I mote" (again, this makes no sense to me).
*I looked up only "ryking" and apparently "ryke" is an old Scottish word for "reach".
or "lowing 'tis" for "it is lowing"...
Ryking is the variant of ryke which means "to reach". So it likely means "reaching for thee" or perhaps another way of saying the singer is pining for their love.
Skirl: to emit a shrill sound (like that of bagpipes) - Collins Dictionary
Skreigh: to utter a harsh abrupt scream (Websters Definition)
Given the context of the song it could be a metaphor for love. Ie. The person's heart is screaming out to be with their love. The musical reference could be relating to seduction in some way?
As for the others? Other than a mote being aspeck of dust, I don't have a clue. They're words that are either rare or we don't use them anymore.
In Dutch reaching to = rijken naar. Still I wouldn't think of that.
