These double track plows are a rarity of sorts. I am wondering why they ran this though, there isn't much snow & they don't even seem to be flanging with it. I'm a retired CP Conductor & I worked plenty of plows in the 1970s & 1980s. Sometimes we were run just to clear the packed snow between the rails because that stuff slowed down trains & even resulted in stalls on grades for heavy trains. The snow acts just like a retarder on a hump. We only had one double track plow on the territory I worked on & I only worked with it once. All the CP plows were homebuilt, mostly a century or so ago.
I have to admit that the reason for running this plow extra eludes me as well. What little they did could have been done more efficiently with a ballast regulator fitted with snow blades. Maybe the RR does not have one, or perhaps it was a training run for new crew members?
Sorry for your disappointment. This plow extra was to clear beside the snow that was already on the tracks was already cleared before this extra by the regular train NH D8
Soild footage! Sweet horn on 1801
Thanks man! 1801 does have a beautiful horn

Yeah their wasn’t much snow on the tracks themselves during this plow extra they were trying to clear beside the tracks
