No criticism at all, brother just observation but the reason the pine burned even faster than you expected might have been that piece with all the branches that you used as a "kindling tree". it was almost definitely full of fatwood in every branch angle. The old timers used to pull out the pine knots from rotten trees where the branches meet the tree and keep them at campsites. Down south we still do sometimes. We leave them for the next camper. Next time you get some dead pine check that area and sometimes you get some really sweet fatwood that you can process down into blocks for your kit. You probably already know all that but I figured I'd share just in case you didn't. Thanks for sharing the longer video, brother. Loved it. Keep it up man you've got serious talent. God bless.

Pretty long but carefree cook time. you can wrap in foil to keep clean and keep more moisture in.

Just found your vids mate. They look good thanks for taking the time to give them to us all out here. Tip; next time, save the foil from the bacon you wrapped it in and wrap the spud ( potato ) in it to cook in the coals. Keeps your figures clean and if you burn the spud the skin will stick to the foil so as you unwrap it you will expose the flesh only. Please keep em coming.

  • @rocktroll2002

next time bury the potato in the ashes and cover with embers the outside won't burn and it will act as an oven. As for your shelter, looking good, maybe go with more vertical supports they'll help shed the rain. Awesome video nicely done

  • @bushmonkeycraftsrestoratio5332

Nnnnooooo forgot the cheese, the struggle is real 👍🏼"feather sticks for days" Alfie Aesthetics quote sir ? Yet again another top production, the great quality that you bring to you tube is that you do something you love, it's not polished, you are learning as you go and we are on that journey with you, I don't want to a video with a perfectly built shelter in one go, or somebody saying right time for a fire and poof it's roaring. You show the pain in finding the wood, processing it down then admitting how it was hard with the pine. When I go out and fail at making a fire and working out it's just not a case of getting a few twigs, a bit of silver birch and rubbing two small hedgehogs together to create a spark, sometimes it takes a while. Thanks for keeping it real brother 🥓🍳

  • @SurfStylee1

I also vote for longer videos. I'm a cord cutter. It's not easy to watch outdoors shows from Discovery or Outdoors on the spur of the moment. You have to know the shows exist and maybe there's videos on the website to watch or you find them on YT or pirate them. I started with Joe Robinet but guys like you and him can be found in a moment's notice. I can walk out of my kitchen with a plate of hot food and be like, "Oh, I should watch a bushcraft video while I eat!". Open YT and there you are. 20 seconds from having the idea to watching your video. I found you from seeing you in the sidebar while watching Joe's videos. You are the replacement to the 20 or 40 minutes shows on cable. Capitalize on it!

One thing I'll add. If you do a raised bed leave space enough to place hot rocks beneath for radiant heat. Careful with river rock. Moisture trying to get out can crack to shatter a rock. Flying pieces in the eye is not good.

Next time use your knife or fork and puncture the sweet potato several times all around (this will allow excess moisture to be released during cooking, so you end up with a tender potato) and then double wrap it in aluminum foil. You can prep the sweet potato at home like that, and when you are ready to cook it throw the aluminum foil wrapped sweet potato right on the coals. A sweet potato the size you had in this video is perfect for this method and should be perfectly cooked in about 30mins. Larger sweet potatoes take longer, up to 40mins. Thanks for the entertaining video.

I hope you realise the Canadian Jam Knot needs to be locked or it will slip as it's supposed to do unless it is locked. You use it unlocked to compress your sleeping bag, say, but it needs to be locked for securing spars. Mors Kochanski calls it the King of Knots, because it is the most economical and sturdy knot there is for bushcraft.

Great video. I liked the longer format too. When you were processing the wood using many different methods of splitting and batoning, it made me realize how far you've come since you first started learning in your first videos. I hope you realize it too. Good job man. Have fun.

you need to bring the front down a little to keep the heat in and to keep the rain out a little more and the sun out if you are facing it. Just about 4 or 5 logs

ive done did the trial and error for sweet potatoes, trick is forget about it, once you forgot how long and when you've tossed it in the fire, that's when you know it's ready

I wouldn't use rocks from the creek. They have moisture in them and tend to explode and send hot rock shrapnel everywhere.

Pack in a chainsaw and can of gas for a day? Just go to town cutting a couple of cords?
Green house plastic is 3-5 mills thick, UV resistant, and comes in long wide sheets. That makes and excellent water proof shelter layer.
A sawbuck to hold your logs for sawing. You will love it.
A firewood lean to.... south facing with a log or stone floor to keep cut firewood dry and ready.
A fire pit can be raised by building a would box and insulating that from heat with a mortar made of hard wood ashes.
Weaving wattle walls from tall upright stakes about forearms length apart in odd numbers of 3,5,7,9...... makes a decent wind break wall and used only twigs and small branches. Look up videos on wattle or hurdle.
Missing out on setting a dutch oven in the coals and making a soup all day with potatos, bacon, and other stuff you like.
A trip pod with a pot suspended over the fire to have a warming cup of tea or coffee now and again. Also just to keep boiling water to make safe for cooking or drinking.
    Good videos! Well done!

I really enjoyed your video. It's the first one of yours I've seen. And your dinner happens to be my favorite camp meal, lol. Here's a tip for coconut oil in winter. Use a Burts Bees chapstick container or similar style. Very easy to get out. I sometimes put the oil in an old ice cube tray and just pop out a couple to pack. That stuff gets too hard to scrape out of a bottle, and I fry up my sweet potato in it.
