From a long time fan, I'm super honored to have you transcribe one of my tunes, and it was a pleasure to help bring this to the piano! I'm glad this exists because funnily this piece was originally imagined to be for the piano, but I didn't have any microtonal-capable piano plugin/sound source back then so I ended up writing it using only Dexed (a free DX7 FM plugin). Aside from my usual 12edo music I have a few other xen pieces, which I try to keep in this approachable style in various edos and instrumentations, many involving SNES sounds as well. Glad folks like this one, and thanks again for doing this amazing transcription :')
I just found your soundcloud, there's some great stuff there! Do you happen to have a comprehensive list that shows all your xen music and the respective tuning systems the pieces are written in?
just curious, are you brazilian?
I LOVE IT, IT'S SO ADORABLE
OMG WORLDS MERGING
I love this, loved the original on the STAFFCIRC album and amazed to see one of my fav youtube channels arrange it
Beautiful piece of music!
my piano I haven't tuned in years: "You know, I'm something of a microtonal myself.."
Your piano isn't alone with that condition. Search for the video called "This Defect Changes the Rules of Harmony".
This made me laugh out loud and that is a rare event.
Woah, this is actually the first ever microtonal piece that doesn't sound like I'm about to die from dementia, it sounds fun and cool!
Counterpoint: 0:46
@@herobrine1847Nah that doesn't sound like dementia to me, it sounds lively
Microtonal classical has a tendency to sacrifice listenability for novelty and new dissonances, but I can recommend people like fabiocostamusic, mannfish and juhani nuorvala (more like this) and sevish, xotla, brendan byrnes, benyamind, zheanna erose, beheld... (different genres)
I also have a playlist (check my channel playlists)
🙏 thx @@romeolz
Oh and ofc 'tapeworm saga' for stuff the most similar compared to this
When Poulenc meets Wyschnegradsky
so good...
more like Kapustin!
Didn't know Wyschnegradsky, thank you, do you know any other avant garde composers of the sort ?
I actually love how instead of sounding super creepy and foreign this piece is strangely whimsical and cute
wow! this is probably the first microtonal tune that doesn't sound like terminal stage of schizophrenia! Amazing!
😂😂
holy shit ime44 comment
I recommend iLevens, a 22-TET band that is amazing. Their lead, Brendan Byrns, also makes great stuff.
yeah it sounds really nice and dreamy
WAIT HOLY CRAP THATS IME
Nonono. It does sound like terminal stage of schizophrenia, but now that you've listened to so much microtonal music, you've become schizophrenic yourself and find it appealing because it's an exceptionally good piece of terminal stage of schizophrenia. Welcome to the club! 😜🤪😵💫🥴 😂
Damn this is talent! Exploration of musical techniques yet still being characteristically beautiful! I would thoroughly enjoy more of this sort of style, even with a little bit of Kapustin element…
microtonal kapustin sounds kinda dope
@@hesangasong it's something beyond reality. Something transcendent.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to compose microtonal music, it's such an awesome yet underutilized sound.
It's so vast, too. In my very professional estimation, imo 12-tone equal temperament covers ~7-10% of the emotions you can get from melodies/chord progressions
Now THIS is microtonal music 👏
Finally something that is actually pleasant to listen to!!
Agree! When are the microtonal flute covers dropping??🤨
You can check out Hear Between The Lines! Their work might suit your palette :)
I'd recommend "Colourblind" (the live performance) as well as "I can see clearly now" and "Time to call my friend"!
The chord of the end. Was exquisite! Loved it.
Maj7 is always lovely
OMG IVE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS ON SOUNDCLOUD FOR MONTHS ITS MY FAV AND OMGGGG AN ARRANGEMENT THATS SO COOL AHHHHHHHHH
easily the best 17 edo arrangement of a 15 edo piece ive heard this week
I’m so glad you did this! Looks like you have joined a very exclusive club of microtonal transcriptions using quarter tone diatonic key signatures, including myself, June Lee, and Hear Between the Lines. Doc’s music rocks
But microtonal accidentals are unnecessary in 17edo! I wish people stopped using them.
@@nyloniusthey are definitely not unnecessary. In a chromatic line, would you write C-Db-C♯-D? Nah, because then a note that moves up looks like it moved down on the staff.
This is incredible. I don't know what I was expecting but I have uncovered a masterpiece. I've listened to it at least 20 times.
i swear, every couple of months i remember microtonal music is a thing and go "oohh aahhh its so pretty" and then forget about it.
i gotta do more research about it.
microtonal arrangements have an uncanny, unsettling thing about them that I love so much, and when harnessed right, it’s so good. that is to say, good job you harnessed it right
Absolutely insane, I'm stunned
Wow, it’s amazing how it sounds charming and bouncy, yet at the same time slightly off-putting and eerie! It’s like a song playing over a broken radio after humanity collapses
Bar 9 melts my soul every single time
This sounds wonderful!
This is literally crack for my ears omg
Reminds me of Ravel with the parallel stepwise descending chords
This had me grinning from ear to ear. Those acciacaturas are wonderful, and the playing is so light and, indeed, super cute!
Those modulations caught me completely off guard though; this is some incredible writing.
I've always thought whenever I watch video about microtones that they just sound "absolutely" unconfortable and couldn't be used in any kind of music but what's this! I love this! Thank you for introducing me to a new world of music. I gotta check the original song now.
I CANT STOP LISTENTING TO THIS!!
This is so amazing omg. I love every bit of this piece.
Oh dear this sounds so lovely! I love every bit of it❤
I LOVE THIS, IT'S ADORABLE
I love microtones so much! Beautiful piece
So happy random youtube suggestion introducing me to this charming piece
Congrats to the composer, who unlocked the promise shown by Charles Ives 100 years ago!
This is amazing!
this is insane
I love this. Thank you for sharing!
This is ABSOLUTELY INSANE!! I love it!
0:47 to the ending especially is just magical to my ears
Pure magic. Awesome music!
That was absolutly beautiful
Wow this is amazing, that sounds even better than I thought it would.
my brain just can't handle these.
i love the tuning change, and the original! subbed for (hopefully) more microtones :)
Lovely piece !
Lovely
Thank you for your hard work, as always :)
WAIT THIS IS BEAUTIFUL
that chord is oddly tingly. love it!
THIS IS SO AMAZING
So lovely
THIS IS INCREDIBLE WHAT
Wow, this is really good.
major w for all microtonal enthusiasts out there. hope this isnt the last such entry in your oeuvre
it's perfect.
My piano in my country house starts to sound like this. I have to do something with it urgently
What a gem channel!
Sounds like music box... so cute!
This was a transcendence experience, i wish this was a bit longer! Nice job dude!
Really nice!
I love it!
Those key signatures 😳
This is so awesome wtf
I have watched this so many times now
I can tell by some of the notes sounding "detuned" that this is microtonal
Sounds like microtonala Medtner! Really good work!
Wow! I like it! The spirit, musicality, and the texture are something that Horowitz could have composed in the 1920s!
That's so cute... now do it in 31EDO.
Fabulous!!
Wow love that
i've never heard a microtonal song that sounds so normal, this is actually quite cool
wow awesome
Fantastic
amazing
This sounds great. I wonder how it would sound if it wasn’t microtonal.
¡Cómo me fascina la música microtonal! Me parece como una especie de evolución del jazz 🥶🥶
measure 9 is the first measure of microtonal music i have liked so bravo
This is so amazing, can I download this to be my ringtone?
don't blame me when microtonal police comes to you
(yes, yes you can)
Just WOW
"cute" and "microtonal" are words i'd never thought i'd see together
Wtf that's great, I really like it
so well done dog
that was cute!
I didn't get a notification for this video... and it's absolutely wonderful! Love the 17-EDO sound which I've never heard before. I'm unsubscribing and resubscribing so I never miss another video ❤
Hello, I’m looking to do a 12-EDO transcription - is it okay with you for me to use this score as a reference and am I allowed to publish it (with credit of course) - if not, that’s completely ok. Great work btw!
Yeah feel free to do so, thanks :)
I did that too
Phenomenal! I love it :) Can I use it for a little animation I'm doing? I will give you both credit ofc
Sure!
@@hesangasong Thank you! :) It might take some time, but I'll share the animation link once it's finished!
Mozart invited Kapustin, Wyschnegradsky and Hindemith to a Cat Café.
Wonderful! (:
Amazing work as always! How did you record the midi? Just 12 tone then adjust after or is there something more interesting to it?
Record midi in 12 EDO -> translate all midi note numbers to 17 EDO -> manually adjust/add for new microtonal notes.
wowowowowowowowowowowowowowow so cuuuuuuuuuuuuute
its quite cute
Hi😊, I met your channel today, and I simply got adicted to it, congratulations, You have a new subscriber. That being said, may I suggest an arragement of "Thinking" from Louis Cole? I really love that song
So cool, love this thing wayy too much, am I the only one that feels some kind of microtonal element on the final resolution chord? It sounds kind of alien to me, although it feels like home as well, it just definitely doesn't sound like a regular Bb major 7th chord.
The major 3rd in 17edo is extremely sharp and is an approximation of 9/7 or 14/11, not 5/4. The major 7th chord could be written as 14:18:21:27 (compare to the usual 8:10:12:15). In general, 17edo has no good approximation for the 5th harmonic.
@@galoomba5559 Thank you, after some thought that's what I realized as well.
it's so good it kinda reminds me of kapustin a bit
bro pls drop these tunes on streaming or sumn 😭
Goooood
Cute 🥺🥰
Every person with perfect pitch’s nightmare
I have perfect pitch and I find 17edo quite nice 😂
Same
천재
I hope this is the future of music 😭
Very nice piece of actual microtonal music (not just passing tones). How did you determine the microtonal key signatures for the inner parts?
I think almost all of them were based on circle of fifths and chromatic (or rather microtonal) voice leadings/leading tones
Cute~
fyeeee
Kinda think it needs a lead in with the Chinese caucophony choir (AaaaaAAAAAAaAaAAAAaa) from GITS 2. Music for the high-Szechuan-pepper General Tso's legumes.
