    One MINOR correction... I said the AI will go to the Cape when they BUILD a hospital but it is when they UNLOCK the hospital (around 35 artisan homes and if you see them with a cannery/sewing machine factory).

    • @2009Wanderer
      @2009Wanderer Před 3 lety

      So what I understand it's don't matter what player do, even player limited to worker and not upgrade Artisans, a.i with 2 star level at least will go to expansion
      on their own, even build hospital and artisan even player had not touch artisan and hospital, correct? If so, then it's mostly not up to player at all in this case? Ok, I guess a.i expansion to cape on a.i's terms, not on player's term, that's disappointed, I wish to control on my term, not on a.i player (star 2), Only thing good is arctic where human player can control a.i expansion, but not rest of other world map.

      @Shiftry87 Před rokem +1

      @@2009Wanderer If u want that control then use 1-star AI. There is only really 2 things that make the diffrent star AI harder then the other and thats there insane amount of defensive cannons they build and there expansion speed so the player simply cant take 4 hours to get to the new world and expect to have the best islands still available. The AI ships can be abit annoying at first but once u get your weapons production up and running its not that hard to control the sea even against a 3star AI. Attacking there islands is the annoying part with there insane cannon tower spam.

    I just wanted to add to this because I’ve done a couple of multiplayer games where we restarted since we were first learning the game. We played with 2 players and 2, 2-star AI over 3 games and they ignore any restrictions on the artic.
    Between 3 playthroughs when we reached engineers and completed the artic expeditions, the AI had colonized almost every usable boat docking island in the artic. We focused primarily on the other regions and didn’t reach higher tiers as fast, and the AI was already housing investors.

      Late reply, but in the arctic, the AI expansion trigger gets disabled in MP. The AI will only wait upon the player in SP, but in MP, they'll build there straight away.

      How do you manage that without losing tons of transport ships everywhere once a war starts though?
      Rare times I've tested going to war, I've found I was severly punished by the massive escorts and defense turrets of competitors.
      Had to wait until very late game, when I could finally wage a huge ass fleet and massive war in 4 regions at a time, with plenty of free cargos everywhere to replace the lost ones afterwards... But it was gruesome still ^^
      Before that I would take islands by shares, and slowly building up diplomacy relation... Long and tedious.

    • @petrasb1
      @petrasb1 Před rokem +2

      @@madzangels Of course you can. Just do big cities and fill beer, bread, sausages and canned food. Later buy shares from competitors. You can easily maintain 20 ship fleet without having any island in a new world on medium difficulty and all 3 stars competitors.
      Actually now I always do this strategy: I set up my old world chains, then getting a fleet and then taking what I want, not what is left. There is no point to be first in a new world because without naval power AI will freeze your trade routes after first war declaration. You still need to take care of naval power first, unless you like to test your luck and depend on AI's good will.

    • @petrasb1
      @petrasb1 Před rokem +1

      @@justalonesoul5825 Key lies in taking proper islands which are in a cluster next to your main. You kind of making proper corridor with your islands just right to the edge of the new world (by being first to colonize or by brutal power, whatever it takes). Then you build some costal defenses so there are very few unprotected gaps, which then you can cover with some patrolling ships. There is no other way to secure your trade routes properly. Actually I care about diplomacy only before I get my first few ships of the line, later diplomacy is very situational and optional. Being at war is actually very profitable item vise.

    Waw. TYVM for those explanations. To me, the gap from 1-star to 2-star AIs is just much too big, that's a bit harsh. There should be something in-between, or it just feels like you have to utterly rush for much too specifics things, leaving little to no time for messing around, specially with both Enbesa and NW to cover :S
    The rate of expansion of 2* is really quite impressive to me. If only I could build AND supply that fast ^^
    EDIT : turns out that with "reduced speed" that came after update 10, I actually can :D

    I kinda play my Anno 1800 sessions in a roleplay mode type of way. So I am building the old and new world slowly first but the pressure of knowing I might be too late in enbesa and nature is already destroyed and taken by AI makes me feel anxious but I don't want to start the DLC quests yet or hurry up and rush the dlc story. This disencouraged me to play for months now. :(

      I understand how you felt, I would love to had a.i in the game but same time I don't want a.i settlement everywhere, I wish to control or limited, no settlement on small island, to keep nature without settlement, so go on. But don't be discourage, you could turn off a.i player. I don't worry about pirate a.i and trader a.i, it's stay where it was on island.

      @justalonesoul5825 Před rokem

      I totally feel you ; I think I either need to watch more hours of tutorial to properly compete with just the 2-stars already ; or that there should be something between 1-star AI asking for permission and being all weak, and 2-star AIs settling everywhere before you in all regions before you "move a finger". When it's both Enbesa, NW and CF it's just oeverwhelming.
      I'd hope they would be limited in each region by you starting the expedition leading there at minimum, I guess. Or ressembling the Arctic. They simply expand too quickly for me and when I look at their islands I'm shocked. 3-4 regions at the same time looks simply too much, or I'd need a *1/4 - *1/8 speed!

I kept going for rewards on the way to Enbesa, so they beat me there too, Carl had the best islands, but it could have been worse. I finally limp my way into Cape Trelawney.....it's empty. Having the worst time with my last two attempts. First attempt was getting to know 1800 since I just bought it. Bit of a mess early on, didn't go too many hours, deleted and tried over. Second, got through the campaign, more than a few regions opened, etc, still messy and after deciding to watch video (especially yours), deleted and restarted. That's when my trouble started. Followed a guy's guide to the letter, but early on the money simply shit the bit because I was also doing the campaign. Too much needed in the campaign I did too early basically. Deleted, restarted.
    Fourth attempt . . . ugh, took over a few islands very early so I could keep them for myself. One AI got pissed, declared war, ended my playthrough almost immediately by obliterating me from the map.
    I was dismayed to find that in the second attempt the one AI had airships very early. They took over practically everything right off the bat. I like the campaign, but getting the hang of it is trying my patience. That's saying something for an Anno-style game! lol

    Is there a breakdown to triggers of drops (ship drops). I played a game with 3 1-stars & i didn't find a SINGLE legendary from Anne. I was keeping to late-artisans & so were NPCs, she was perfectly blockaded & all i was getting was rum, weap's & some whites/greens.

      A common strategy used in RTS A.I to make it harder to beat is to cheat....several games does this....generally speaking, the game mode considered ''normal'' is when the A.I will play at the 1:1 scenario with you.
      In ''hard mode'' usually A.I have advantages....its like that in Civ games, Command and conquer and several others.

      @@aldrich2825 yeah, my RTS geek buddy of mine told me the same thing. Well, sadly the A.I. in this game is not so good to fight against. I mean boring, and easy. And too bad that all maps are for 4 player total only, and the game engine itself as well.

    • @aldrich2825
      @aldrich2825 Před 2 lety

      @@thesoloenone8245 Take civ 5 for instance....if you have it on steam you can see it for yourself. When you play the ''harder'' difficulties, the game directly tells you the A.I will have advantages in production multiplier. There is only so much they can simulate a easy/normal/hard A.I in programming on what action they will mostly take. If they improve the ''action'' only of the hard A.I, it will come to a point where it would start acting like it could see it through the fog of war and non explored parts of map...making the absolute best/optimal decision....but that would leave a bad taste in the player base mouth because if the A.I manage to counter your every move, the game becomes hugely unfair and boring, hence no one would waste time playing it....so they pick lesser ways of making it hard, but not impossible. There are some games that you can choose for the A.I to behave like that...civ 5 for instance in the most difficult A.I, it does act it like it has vision on the entire map....as well a 3x production multiplier.
