    I feel like some games require very scripted and concise deliver on explaining their mechanics but with Anno, I felt like the “demonstration” method would be the best way to prepare new players looking to dive into a new city builder game. What do you think? Too long? Too slow? Let me know, thanks! -Deadite

      @@Xila0705 you need timber and iron on your shit then you sail to another island close to the shore and a blueprint will show up. you click it and you have a new island. You cant build on islands that someone else already has. And you can only build a dock on the special shallow shore.

      This is one of the best introductions for what's on CZcams at the moment but I don't think anyone has actually explained the game well yet. I'd say that Anno 1800 definitely needs a script - especially if you've never played Anno before but have played similar games. This is still a really good demo-style video.

      @@Pilek01 that sucks that you can't build on top of what the ai has already built because that would give the option of not going to war or if you did and won you wouldn't have to wipe out the whole island so you could build on it why can't you just pay more to keep them otherwise it takes more time to build what the ai already built for you.

      Nah it’s ok this game is all about earning $ and make more recourses but city design in this game, is a problem to make it perfectly and every 5M away need a fire station just like in real life so the fire fighters can reach in time.

  • @wbillyip
    @wbillyip Před 5 lety +98

    You ignored the production time of production buildings hence their work time/production are not optimised.
    E.g. each wheat farm requires exactly 1 minute to make 1 wheat but only takes 30 seconds for the flour mill to make 1 flour hence you would need 2 farm for each mill. Vice versa for mill to bakery but exactly the opposite; 2 bakery is required for every single mill hence their ratio is 2 farm : 1 mill : 2 bakery

  • @steelbeard151
    @steelbeard151 Před 5 lety +5

    Nice guide. I think you have a misperception, however, which is true of a lot of Anno players. At 7:52, when your finances are in the red, your solution was to build more farms. However, you didn't address the cause of why you were losing money, so by 11:50 you were just losing money again. What new players need to be told is: the taxes the people pay are related to their happiness, NOT to their needs. Your farmers were unhappy-- building more of them just made more unhappy farmers. Your money went up for a brief time because the new farmers needed a little time to become as unhappy as your previous ones, and when they did, your finances immediately tanked again. What you needed to do was give the farmers their schnapps and a pub-- once you do that, they become happy and your tax income stabilizes. You eventually got around to doing this at the end of the video, but I think it worth pointing out for new players: the solution to money in the red is not to build more farmers or upgrade more workers. That's a stopgap solution at best. Tax money is related to how happy the people are; their needs tab is about their population; happiness tab is for money they pay.

I would add that there is shared storage, so if goods are deposited at one warehouse, they are available to all other warehouses and to be traded etc. the other key point would be to shoe how to calculate how many of each building is needed to optimize the production of different goods. • @Vimes.
    @Vimes. Před 5 lety +4

    Thanks for doing this starter guide. It has been a log time since I played an Anno game, the futuristic ones did not appeal. I do have fond memories of playing the 1404 one tho.
    Having been used to playing the city builder Skylines there you soon realise when watching your video that the similarities are merely superficial, that's fine as with around 1k hours in Skylines I'm kinda maxed out on that.
    I would have liked this one to not have the grid building restrictions, as well as animation for the construction / upgrades of buildings. Even with just scaffolding it would have looked good, rather than a "pop" build. I see also that it isn't citizen focused, like Tropico 6 or Skylines. Not a complaint, just an observation.
    The production chains look good and pretty easy to follow, the UI seeming to be simple to navigate in that respect.
    Overall the game seems to be "Worth a Buy" :)
    Mine will be installed soon.
    For those who played in the very early beta had much changed with the launch version..? Just thinking about the delay and more time needed to finish the game.

    That ship is perfectly stopped so that you can immediately expand to another island. More often than not your starting island won’t be able to grow Hops for beer production. That means you need to expand to another island with hops fertility to make that a possibility. So, you can basically start two cities at once right off the rip.

  • @toddabbott781
    @toddabbott781 Před 5 lety +1

    I found the game pretty cool... sort of. The graphics are cool, but it is missing a few things. One is you need to be able to zoom out farther. Second is you need a faster speed option... 2x and 4x is not good enough. It gets so tedious as you advance. They need to bring back the option of buying seeds for your islands too. I do miss the end game mission of building the mosque and cathedral.
    Now for the gameplay. It is not bad. It is not hard to gain allies and do war to wipe out players, but if you want to max out technology... Oh boy. You need to work hard. Just to get steam boats is near impossible unless you crank down the difficulties and even then it is not easy. The game is really hard to manage compared to Anno 1404. The need for population management can really make it a balancing act between population and resources. You need to lay everything out with as little wasted space as possible. The fact that your taxes require full supplies that if your supplies get at all low and you lose all your taxes pretty much. If you go down to zero the game ends. This part is way harder than with Anno 1404. Also the tutorial tells you basically nothing. It took a bit to figure out how to do expeditions and what things give you bonuses for them. Do not expect to get steam power at all the first few games. Just build up your resources until you can build the largest sailing ship and build a ton of them. When you attack go fast. Go from one island to another as quick as you can as they will regroup fast and attack you settlements in the new world. This means you better have them defended well or you are screwed. You need something like 10-12 ships likely to bust the home base of the weaker characters unless you wait until they are at war and ambush them. You can no longer do an island grab to limit their expansion at the start because it take influence to claim each island. If you do not spend any on improving the newspaper articles you might be able to take all the islands in the new world. For your first game I would disable the pirates though... especially in the new world as they WILL sink your ships. Putting a base near them with guns helps a lot though. Their bases are well defended though so stay away. I did get some steamboats built by my third game, but man that was hard. I have yet to unlock the Investors (the citizens after Engineers).
    I did find a nice utility if you want a list of technologies, how many people each resource satisfies, and what you need to unlock different things at a glance.

      @@ninjaruss4205 Yes, you can build different types of military ships (Gunboat, Frigate, and ship of the lines were the ones available in the beta), which are useful to protect your trade routes against pirates, but also can be used to siege other player's or AI ports until they surrender and you either gain all of their shares on the island (See below) or simply take control of their city. There's no land forces, which I'm glad for since it's always been a horrible feature in previous Anno game. Here ship battles are surprisingly fun and you even have to take the wind into consideration, as it will massively affect your ship's speed.
      Competition isn't only done through military action though, you can buy shares from another player's island, reducing their profit and increasing yours. Once you've bought all of the shares they have in an island, you can initiate an hostile take over and take control of their island financially, but effectively with the same results as with a military conquest.

    Noticed that lines appear between buildings when goods are being delivered on your example. How do I see this in the game? When I play I do not see these lines nor do I see the connectivity or reach of influences from warehouses etc. I have just received the game and started to play yesterday. Thanks for your help.

I ENJOYED PLAYING EVERY GAME THEY CAME OUT WITH MOSTLY BECAUSE I'VE ENJOYED BUILDING COOL LOOKING TOWNS MORE THEN THE ACTUAL BUILDING BIG ARMIES, FIGHTING, DESTROYING ANY & ALL TOWNS IN YOUR WAY TO HOPEFULLY WIN! I STOPPED PLAYING WITH AGE OF EMPIRES WAR CHIEFS, NEVER EVEN GOT THE FINAL ASIAN DYNASTY UPGRADE. I STILL PLAY AOE: WAR CHIEFS FOR FUN RANDOMLY THOUGH. ANYWAYS I LOVED VIDEO, YOUR STYLE OF PUTTING THE CONTENT TOGETHER & YOUR PERSONALITY! THIS IS THE 1ST VIDEO OF YOURS I'VE WATCHED BUT I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH THAT I, SUBSCRIBED & LIKED THIS VIDEO! my tip is if you'r income is low don't build a lot of more houses, better look on the happines tab in the house and provide what they want. The happines stuff like schnapps, beer or church give a lot more money from each house.

The news today, either it be Paper, TV or internet are all politically run. It's not what they tell you that's a lie, it's what they don't tell you, that's the lie. Banished was more about creating smaller villages and making use of every last citizen in the best way possible. The shared system is that annos resources do move on the map and you can see exactly where there going just like banished but the way ware houses work are completely different

    This was... not the greatest thing I've ever seen. I know this was from 3 years ago, but seeing as Anno is the same (ideally) now as it was then, this is very confusing.
    Upgrading to workers will get you that much needed income boost (because workers pay more).
    Pay attention to production times of buildings because 1 clay pit to 1 brick factory is very inefficient (same for 1 grain field to 1 flour mill to 1 bakery).
    Attention to detail can win or lose you the game pretty fast.
