Despite generally being a sub, Owen actually had the best minutes:goals ratio of anyone in La Liga 2004-05, even better than Eto'o and Forlan. Shame he never won the full trust and respect of the fans and manager. That said, by 2004-05 his pace, fitness and left foot were all starting to fail him badly (the decline had probably started a year or two before then). This was the last season where he looked like a close to world class striker. But Owen 1997-2002 was immense, right up there with the very best. Frightening pace and astonishing composure in front of goal for such a young player.
No doubt it’s up there for one of the best debuts seasons a striker has ever had. People go on like he was a flop at Madrid, 18 goals, coming off the bench, the style of goal. Owen was a straight up beast.
We never really got to see just how awsome he could have been without injuries- as a liverpool fan since 1980 his time at the club was electric no one could touch him.

That was some squad. Casillas, Roberto Carlos, Beckham, Figo, Zidan, Raul, Ronaldo, Owen... All in one team.
he was one of the best in the world, people seem to forget he won a Ballon D or, if it wasnt for the injuries he would be top 5 best strikers ever
Whoever was able to live the late 90s football fell in love with Owen playstyle. Size, skills, pace, precision...
This vid should serve to remind people just how wonderful a player Guti was.
He was a big game player. It seemed like the more pressure the cooler he was. Underrated!
A great talent extinguished by injuries.
One of the best striker for England ..owen
Owen, Raul, Morientes & Ronaldo 😍... probably the best group of strikers ever to feature in the same squad.
it's just amazing how much the defensive tactics have changed in the past 10 years.
Love him or hate he was one of the best at hitting the side netting just inside the post. That's skill and practice right there

Have to categories this as a successful career at RM. Yes, he had injuries, and yes, he was mostly on the bench, but was still scoring goals.
To be fair every time he seemed to play for Madrid he scored Lol

Michael Owen was never the same after his injuries.
Actually he did extremely well during his time at Real Madrid. Wonder why so many haters still criticising him? 🤔

Had he signed for any other top European team, he would have been considered one of the Worlds best.
Qué grande era! Era mi delantero favorito. Tuvo muy pocas oportunidades en el Madrid porque se topó con Raúl y Ronaldo. Mereció más en éste equipo.
