Mark Wahlberg Teaches You Boston Slang | Vanity Fair - Zábava
His accent gets heavier and heavier throughout this video. He becomes the actual city of Boston in the end.
He shape-shifted right into Quincy Market
90% of the people in Boston and its environs don't talk like that anymore. Mass is the most educated state in the country.
@@charlesstuart7290 Your accent doesn't make you more 'educated'. Historically everyone had the same accents regardless of education.
@@taoliu3949 You have never been to Boston.
@@charlesstuart7290 JFK is as blue blooded as they get. He and his brother spoke with heavy accents
I love how on every slang episode, each actor slowly goes DEEP into their natural accent. Like the start a universal normal, then it just gets deeper and deeper til at the end you can barely understand what they're saying.
Love it
When did that happen?
I wish we were watching the same videos. Do you have a link?

It’s 💯 sprinkles. That’s what they were going for.
He's thinking of a Jimmy Hat. Jimmies are sprinkles.
A true native teaching us his language. Some of these other videos have people who look confused by the most basic slang. He not only knows it he pronounces it perfectly and gives a contextual reference in his native tongue. Wicked awesome job Walberg!
he got more and more Boston as the video went on
a mess™ it’s Bostonian not Boston
*Massachusetts, Boston accent doesn't really exist in the city anymore. You can find it in the suburbs.
WhoButWBMason I live in the suburbs and it’s not really a thing here either, it’s mostly just a thing you see every few months.
So basically Boston's accent is a genetically modified Irish accent
19th century Boston had a huge influx of Irish immigrants, so it's understandable that it'd sound like that.

Had no idea that was a colloquial term. (I guess the pronunciation of it is)
I had no idea clicker was a Massachusetts only term
It's fascinating listening to Mr. Wahlberg's accent get audibly thicker as he recalls all his childhood slang.

Love how lowkey gangster he is
He was in prison as a teenager in my hometown of Winthrop at Deer Island, which is now South Bay prison in Boston. Funny fact. 1 of the New Kids on the Block's first concerts was in Deer Island prison for the prisoners and corrections officers for them to practice. This is of course before they became famous.

It is interesting to see similarities to Australian slang and Boston. It points to Irish origins for both. BTW Mark is wicked funny 😄
Yeah, he is. Almost choked on my tea when he went off after "clicka."
It's interesting to see the similarities. In Boston, they say "bang a u-ey" when telling you to immediately do a U-turn. In Australia, they say, "chuck a u-ey". And for what it's worth, in Canada, or at least in southern Ontario, we say, "pull a u-ey", or "hang a u-ey".

Jimmies are also sprinkles you put on ice cream. But I appreciate how long he has been away doing what he does and still knows the lingo.
Jimmies may be Rubbahs, short for Jimmy Hats, true enough., but I've got to ding him slightly for not also immediately saying they're chocolate sprinkles on ice cream. And they actually are way better than sprinkles found elsewhere, and I'm not sure why. Bigger than non-Mass 'sprinkles' with more chocolate flavor, I swear it. Jimmies are pissa. Sprinkles suck.
sprinkles are rainbow, Jimmie's are chocolate sprinkles.
Chocolate sprinkles
Jimmie's are what Brigham's Ice Cream would offer you on their cones.
Agreed - chocolate sprinkles for ice cream.... I've lived in a lot of places after growing up in Mass and nowhere did they refer to cohcolate sprinkles as jimmies except in new england...

For older Bostonians a good one is “dungarees”. It means a pair of jeans.
Not exclusive to boston.
I grew up about 35 miles north of Boston and wore dungarees. These were what we wore after school, so not to wear out our school clothes. Also were cheaper. And we wore sneakers - girls only wore "girl" sneakers, never "boy"' sneakers. Girls wore skirts or dresses.
