    Brian, I now only buy planes based on what planes you review and the outcome of your review. That's big! Please keep up your review & build videos - they're invaluable. Your time & effort is very much appreciated. Ron

    Owning all the previous eachine warbirds, I can say that it is very important to level the gyro before flying them. It makes a massive difference in your first flights. Put something under the tail so she is level and set the gyro. This procedure is explained in the manual. Also as you stated using a better radio brings it up to hobby grade flying. Great video and thanks for reviewing this. I look forward to getting one.

    Love the Eachine mini warbirds, but this one seems a lot slower and not quite up to the standards the P-51, F4U Corsair, T-28 set. Those planes are a ton of fun. This seems to dolphin a lot, which is what the 750mm Volantec models do. Bigger is not always better.
    If you do order any of those planes, make sure to order extra props at the same time.

      Thanks William. I've been getting mostly negative feedback about people thinking this plane is lacking, and I can't say that it's the BEST Eachine plane, but it's not terrible either. Size and slow are good, but flight controller is lacking, worse than usual.

    • @joegroves2517
      @joegroves2517 Před 2 lety +1

      Same. I got a Corsair and in expert mode it would just roll hard right. No amount of adjustment fixed it so it was awful to control. Like I had to have the aileron default to being a few mm up from flush to even get close but couldn't get it zeroed in. I broke it trying different things to just trim it to fly straight. Got a second one thinking it was a fluke, same thing. Not sure if it was some sort of weird cg issue or the gyro.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +2

      Oz - Sorry dude, we did two...if it's a lemon, lemons evidently come in pairs ;) Don't me to pick a fight, but we bring it like it is, and we also LOVE Eachine. We want to be fair to them too...we gain NOTHING from BAD reviews... We WANT you all to order these planes, but our credibility and our audience is more important to us, than ONE plane.... hope you can appreciate this, and sure you already "get it" ...but this plane does not "Fly as high" as the 400mm warbirds....it's still pretty good, but at this higher price point, it's going to get more scrutiny, as it should.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +3

      Jimmy & Jospeh - I had a heck of a time getting trim worked out, and even after (off camera) I pretty much had to stay in beginner mode.... THAT BEING SAID - I still think this is a cool plane, and definitely WON'T be writing off Eachine any time soon. They generally make good RTF planes...but maybe this one missed the mark a bit? Bind it to an OpenTx Transmitter, and 50% of the issues will be resolved. Eachine needs to be thinking about brushless motors if they're gonna get into the $150-200 price point. It's becoming an expectation (and I'm NOT alone).

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Yes, that’s how we did it. When we had 3 channel the rudder is all you had to trim other then elevator. But if we had 4 channel with ailerons we trim ailerons and elevator then we would invert it and hold down elevator and trim the rudder. And this theory was way back in the 70s. I been flying since I was 15, and I still have my first plane a Sig Kadet that was 3 channel. I never crashed it. Everybody trimmed the rudder Inverted. I learned that from the Pattern pilots. Try it, you will see what I’m taking about. Happy Flying! 😆👍

      This plane has it's issues, BUUUUUUUUT - it is still very pretty, and I could make it fly PERFECTLY with about 2 hours and some spare parts from crashed planes. In fact, might be a fun project....but we just don't have time to revisit planes that don't work out well at the beginning.

    Hi Brian, I just got my P-47 yesterday. I noticed in your video and on Gary’s "I Just Got Here", the aircraft tends to porpoise. Since the instructions gives no CG point, I established a point 1/3 from the wing leading edge (38mm) as the CG. With the battery all the way forward, I had to add 1/2 oz of weight to the nose and it balances perfectly. I test flew it last night and I had a really good flight in about a 7 mile an hour wind. I have not tried intermediate of advanced yet due to the wind I was flying in, so you may want to rebalance your aircraft to get a better flight.

    I'm new to the hobby, so I don't know a lot about manipulating and repairing the styrofoam but I was wondering could you create a dihedral by weighing down the fuselage with a dumbbell on a string with the wings balanced between two milk crates or something similar? You might could apply a hair dryer in that position lightly to mold the wings into a dihedral.

I would like to know if you have a good source for a replacement prop for this plane, from within America. Or, if there is a good replacement-kind for it. My two have shattered and was hoping for a more flexible prop or a 3 blade or something to have fun experiment with☺. Mine was garbage out of the box, wickedly tail heavy. 5oz in nose so far and almost flyable until propstrike # 2☺.

      I don't have a good source for replacement props beyond Banggood link for the plane, then "What other people bought" at the bottom of the page as you scroll down. Some of the NEWEST planes can be tough to get the props, very unfortunately.
      As for props, especially as a new RC pilot, get used to going to a local hobby shop and raiding their props...it will make you feel like some sort of an addict, but this is part of being new. I DO still break props, but much less frequency now-a-days, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel ;)

    What if you trim it when in expert mode. Does that mess up beginner mode? It would be nice to fly in beginner, then flip the switch to do some aerobatics.
    Also I agree with your “lemon” theory. I had an a800 that flew great. Then on the third flight it would lock up into a nose dive in the 6g mode, and wouldn’t let me pull out of it. I see yours flies great. Must’ve got a bad one.

    Brian, can I suggest that you get the CofG sorted first, basically adding allot of trim to make it fly in assisted mode is artificially countering teh tail heavy CofG this then results in the wild antics in the no gyro mode as it's miles off due to excessive tail heavy CofG problem and the elevator basically forcing it into a nose down pitch and the wild ride that then results.......... keep adding nose weight until the control surfaces are essentially "level" and it flies - glides in the no gyro mode with minimal trim other have found around 20 grams in the nose is needed but then the power is even more lacking - gutless than it already is........ gotta say it's a lemon compared to the awesome little 400mm birds........ kind of a pity as it's a nice looking plane........

    Brian, where does the CG measure on yours?
    I finally received mine a few days ago, and after trimming out, it was still basically un-flyable in INT or EXP mode. In BEGINNER, doing a power-off hands-off glide it would depart into a stall/spin! So I added 17gr ballast to the nose to move CG forward to 27% of wing root cord length. Stability ok now & glides normally.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +1

      Trouble for this plane and many other Eachines I've flown (We've reviewed almost every one), is that there isn't any way to center the gyro/flight controller so that the plane is specially aware of it's flat and level position in space...hence not really any opportunity to trim. You gotta get the thing to fly.
      P.S. I did try that too (trimming in expert), and it was a huge embarrassing failure too...but that didn't make the "cut"...
      I've had much better luck with other Eachines. Not sure if this plane suffers from miss aligned multipurpose Rx PCB as was true for some other Chinese planes of the past. If so, one plane will work well, and the next may not...

    Brian, change the prop and see if that helps with the gearbox noise. I have both the Eachine P51 and T28 and got props with blades that weren't 180 degrees apart. Sometimes it's hard to see it at first but you can check by using a straight edge down the middle of the prop. Poor manufacturing is to blame but luckily my planes came with an extra prop.

    • @siegmarlange5470
      @siegmarlange5470 Před 2 lety +2

      It's not the blades! If you turn propeller by hand, it's very rough. Motor is too weak for the airframe and weight! The 3 modes are so different from the 400 mm warbirds. It would be a nice plane, if it had similar flight characteristics as the little mustang or t28.

Mid mode of the small eachines is very nice and I have made a small modification on the stock transmitter, that allows to fly in expert mode by simply holding down a switch, that I just release to switch back to mid mode. It's fun, but they need to get brushless and better tx for this price point, in my personal opinion.

      Try the Arrows Pioneer 1400mm for $169.

    I think your unit is broken. Eachine/Volantex products fly on rails.

      I've had two, and this was the better one, believe it or not. We've also reviewed all the others too, with only a few exceptions. I have the last on shipping now too ;)
      I don't mean to be unfair to Eachine here, but it just wasn't as good as some of the 400mm warbirds. I mean, I was super excited for this one....I expected greatness, but it was only okay. Trouble with these planes, in my best estimation, when the price "Catches Up" with a certain point, people stop "tolerating" small issues that might otherwise be overlooked on a cheaper plane. Now it's the price of higher quality, albeit BNF option, and RC enthusiasts NOTICE these things... Eachine need to be very careful to be sensitive to this...or they will lose a good reputation very quickly.
      That all being said, this plane is still FUN, and maybe we "Got a bad one"??? Who knows, but it's a beautiful little plane, and is RTF, but I would never put a beginner into this plane....that's how we make "one and done" pilots.

    This Eachine junk is way overpriced for what you get, unless you prefer form over function which is never a good rule of thumb to go by. Why buy this when you can get a better quality, more capable and powerful model like the Eflite Turbo Timber UMX at the same price point? This model may look good but that seems like all it has going for it, which is a hard pass for me.

      Well, don't disagree with your main point, but this is RTF, and the Turbo Timber UMX, which is amazing...it's a BNF...so it's hardly comparable.
      NOW, if HH would offer the Turbo Timber in a RTF - that would be SUPER smart!!! Unfortunately, it would probably cost something like $300....
