  • The not so impressed diagnostic scan tool review. This Diagnostic Scan Tool has some many features that it almost has too many features. Which kills the boot up time, ask's too many questions before even entering the diagnostic suite where you can view live data. I couldn't believe how incredibly slow this thing is. Like I said in the video it's got a lot of features and benefits, but maybe it's too much technology for this Autel to keep up with. I give it a 2.5 star rating out of 5.Amazon Affiliate Links Below:

    Hi Justin, I like your videos and have always followed you but you are wrong about this tool. You had problems bcuz you didn't know the options to select. You should have selected Auto ID on the Diagnostic screen which would have save you those extra questions. Furthermore, after the Auto Scan has been completed, you just select Report to see the DTCs that were found. Also, SAS is for Steering Angle Sensor and not Airbag. I have been using this tool for about 2 years now and I looooove it bcuz it does a lot. If you had done a little bit of research about it and play with it a little bit before the review, you would have given a much better review and your perspective about it would have been different. So I suggest you go back and try out what I just said about the tool.

    Justin, you can hit a different auto-id button and it will bypass that stuff or if you just want to go into one specific module, u dont have to go through a complete code scan. You can also go in OBD Direct or Global and that would be much quicker, you did it pretty much the longest way possible by pulling up all the modules that vehicle had. Just a heads up, good review tho.

    I thought it was interesting how closely it mirrors the GM scan tool in the questions it asks you about the vehicle as well as the option it gives you for bi-directional control. I felt like I could tell you what your next screen was going to say because it was so accurate to using the GM tools at the dealership. And yes the OE tools can take an eternity to do those same functions as well.

      I except your premise; However, for those of us that are not so computer savy that work in a very busy shop waiting 6-9 minutes before I can access the vehicles computer to pull a code or view live data. This tool takes way too long. It may have a lot of features that others may find extremely beneficial, but I have seen and used other scan tools that can do just as much or slightly less in less than half the time. For this reason I am giving it 2.5 stars. It's not that user friendly. That's just my opinion. Glad your still enjoying your product. Cheers!

      Maybe it's a software issue with this one then. I don't know. I just know that's what I'm seeing. I'm going to be trouble shooting an EGR Code today and using the EGR Duty Cycle percentage test as well as load testing the circuit using a DVOM to see what I can expect from a known good EGR solenoid. I'll post it today and see if changing vehicles changes the way I feel about the tool and boot up time.

      I also owned the maxisys mini and used it for 3 years before this one. It was just as fast. I agree it's not user friendly but only for inexperienced scan tool users. My old snap on modis or zues are more user friendly but definitely not as fast as my autels. If you've used alot of different factory and aftermarket scan tools it's not to hard to use.

    • @JustinDowDIYcentralhighway
      @JustinDowDIYcentralhighway  Před 5 lety +1

      See My experience has been just the opposite. My solus boots up really fast and is very user friendly, but lacks a lot of the capabilities that this Autel one has. That being said yes I agree the Verus is also really slow and often times when the software is out of date the scan tool starts having more glitchs then any other tool I have used. I have also found that with Snap-On some times it can not see battery voltage and will not connect and a cheap $20 pocket reader connects no problem. It's all in experience. I still looking and hope to try out many other scan tools in during my search for something that is user friendly and has a bi-directional functions. A lab scope would be nice, but not necessary. I can always get a Pico Scope down the road.

    • @JustinDowDIYcentralhighway
      @JustinDowDIYcentralhighway  Před 5 lety +1

      I have heard good things about launch. I was actually thinking that the 431mini Tablet might be a good option, but I have to save up for one. I would prefer to get one that programs vehicles, but that is just a bonus option. A lab scope would be a nice addition; However as we discussed during our live stream together it may be more beneficial to get the Pico scope for that specific use. We don't have a Snap-on Rep anymore so I can't say for sure which Snap-On Scan tool I would've upgraded into, but last time I checked their trade in wasn't worth it. I might as well keep the Solus and Purchase something separate. Any other Launch Tools that you would recommend for someone looking? Maybe you could do a video talking about the various types of Launch Products that you've used and which one if any your considering for future purchase. Cheers and Thanks.

    The one question never answered on every review is How Much is the Yearly Upgrade Subscription. Autel is usually 50% of the purchase price. If someone is getting it cheaper, let us know. But to me spending $1,000 on a tool and then another $500 a year to keep it current is a lot of customers to pump through your garage. The other point that is missing is not all those features are available for all makes and models. For example you can not add a new key to a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid. Bottom line is know the total cost of this and IF it will work on the majority of cars you maintain. Also, in real use, the battery sucks. Your will never get through a full day with out recharging it at some point at least once.

    You should use the tool more then do another review cause the thing also reprograms pcm moduals and dose live data and merges graphs. Another thing is snap-on and launch are windows biased systems and autel is Android biased system so there will be an different start up and download speed but autels device dose an whole lot more than just tell you what to fix its also designed to help you fix many problems that other scanners won't like programing pcm, you can pay for someone to sell you an reprogrammed pcm for your vehicle and that's fine it will cost anywhere from $200 -$2,200 depending on make and model on average there about $400 to $600, plus the time waiting for it to arrive. With this autel device you can drive to the junkyard and buy one that day used and reprogram it that day no waiting and done faster for customer service making them happier than waiting. Now downside is your chancing the used one could be damaged as well but they are cheaper like in my area there $60

    Just got this scanner and waiting to come home from deployment to check it out. I was putting up with this guys whiny voice, by turning the volume down. You know, so I could look at scanner with out the baby in the back ground. But stopped watching and decided to write this review when he started taking the lords name in vain over and over again. As if it would help him from hearing his own whiny voice. My advice to you sir, calm down. Just calm it on down there. And stop bringing god into your hissy fits. No one likes to here that.

    Lol this guy is a joke. You’re telling me you can change gear ratios with a scan tool😂😂. Yeah lmk how that goes. You worked or still work at a dealership and you’re not aware how to properly perform diagnostics? Sounds like a good dealership to take your vehicle to😂😂. Just out of curiosity, can you do a review on a scan tool you recommend that performs the same functions for around the same price?

    You need to educate yourself a bit more about the tool and not guess so much. You did this tool no justice by thinking you knew what you were talking about. Hopefully nobody skips over this tool because of this...

    2500 bucks off the tool truck..complete rip off. 1200 bucks or there abouts on eBay or amazon all day long. For 2500 you can buy an even higher end model Autel scan tool.
