      Watched your tutorial and spent last 9 hours trying to get the Brandmotion camera to work - same camera as what you installed. At the end of this debacle, the rear view camera will turn on for only 30 seconds and then starts flickering and cuts out. Have tried any and every troubleshooting idea we could find or think of. Has anyone ever contacted you with the same problem. My buddy says it is a power issue (where we cut into the cigarette lighter / charging port) but we don't know. One thing we did different was spliced the wires together copper on copper and covered with electrical tape. Very solid splice job, but clueless. Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    In speaking with the company on installation, I got some advice to consider. Flash the vehicle prior to the install and put in reverse to confirm you get a blank/static screen - confirm flash module works prior to doing a full install. Lastly, they suggested to remove the dash and connect the system to the monitor and power source (use taps so you can easily disconnect post this test). Now put in reverse and confirm all works. If it does then complete a full install. It is rare, but happens, where a full install is done and the system has a failure and needs to be returned - painful having to remove everything.

    Thank you so much! It took me all afternoon but with your video, it works great! I had a few differences with my 2017 Wrangler such as my dash board came apart differently and the the ignition wire was on the opposite side. My ignition lighter is on the right side and the always on lighter is in the center console. I couldn’t have done it without your video. The directions it came with were horrible!

    I have watched many of these, and this is a good one. I just ordered a camera kit for a 2017 Sahara wrangler unlimited. What strikes me as odd that no one did a power up test prior to running the wires, but I suspect the program step may prevent this test. I like how he MacGyver’ed the metal scraper with painters tape. I also wish these guys would do a layout of all the parts and tools used. I’ll update if successful but will hide in shame if I am not!

    Really well-done video! I'm going to need to wire mine in reverse- from front to back. Having a touch screen radio installed at BB, and installer has agreed that if I supply a backup camera, he's willing to go ahead and plug it in and wire it as far as the glove box. But that he's only got a window of time enough for the radio and not enough to run it thru the carpet, out the back gate, etc. Question is, since I'm doing this in reverse, where would you recommend I plan to tuck away the excess wiring? Inside the back gate before it pops out thru the spare? Or guesstimate how much may be extra and sort of bird-nest it behind the glove box? The second option seems risky since I could wind up with not enough wire to make it all the way out the back. But I don't know if it's possible, either, to leave any excess inside the back gate. Thanks for any info.

    • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Ryan,
      You will be getting the easy part of the job! Tuck the extra wire inside the rear 1/4 panel once you remove the grey felt covering. This will get you close enough to the rear camera to see how much wire you need, and the wiring will be inside the vehicle. Lots of room in that area!

      geofatboy I didn’t buy that kit. I bought a simple 30 dollar reverse cam kit off amazon then the 20.00 reverse cam harness for that radio... but now I can see why I had to spend the extra money.. that radio needed to be updated to accept that reverse signal. So stupid

    So basically the only Jeep that comes with a back up camera is the Rubicon???

      I've been told that all new vehicles manufactured after 2018 need mandatory back up cameras. Doesn't that apply to Jeeps as well? Or are they in a special category? I found this: Now that the rule is written, it mandates that all vehicles under 10,000 pounds include a backup camera by May 2018.

      @@geofatboy before it used to be the trim you bought and if you bought the base model, it was an additional cost to have it added. Backup cameras became a standard on cars since 2016. Nowadays all trims have those cameras but some cars still come without them.

    A backup cam on a Wrangler is like training wheels on a tricycle. Loo

      Until someone backs into a car directly behind them cause they couldn't see through the spare tire. A backup camera can actually be a life saver if you live in the city. That's why they're included on most new vehicles.

    7:29 never bend the wire like that ... its going to break braids and reduce its quality right there. instead of bending the wire tape the connector to cover it further in front ... plenty enough if you have issues you can make a S with the fish wire and weave the wire in it and tape that...

      @@MrGretzky62 I don't sell the cameras, so it doesn't matter to me, but an insurance claim for backing into somebody or something will cost you way more than $300. We found out the hard way. Had to replace the front hood on some guy's 20 year old BMW which cost $2500.
