How is having the highest grossing tour in North America a flop?
@Pedro Henrique reputation was the highest grossing tour in North America
Ikr, just because the singles weren’t smash hits didn’t mean the album wasn’t successful. Taylor is very much an albums artist, not a singles one.
Lana Del Rey and Marina and the Diamonds should collab and save this entire world.
Galaxy Of Diamonds yes
IT'S OFFICIAL THEIR SONG IS COMING IN MARINA'S NEXT ALBUM I SWEAR
Galaxy Of Diamonds TRUE
that would single-handedly save the pop industry yes please

2008-2012 was such a golden era and then things died down. 2014 was the last _decent_ year for pop music
I agree
nah it's more like 2014 WAS it's highest peak then shit went down slowly and then rock bottom somewhere in early summer of 2016. After that every damn song sounded the same with EDM beats n shit.

*2016 was the _edge_ , and a stretch at that
I think about it everyday from Tail Cruz to Lady Gaga or Kesha...my teen years were a blessing
2010 - 2015 pop music was really catchy, colorful, not so repetitive, and unique. Mumble rappers and the Chainsmokers start to ruin pop in 2016

Honest: Dua lipa has no stage presence
Dua lipa in 2020: LETS GET PHYSICAL!
Glad she's improved
2028 it’s weird man

stage presence does not equal music videos and what music they got. her album was great-i liked it. but she does not have great stage presence

Honestly pop music started getting worse after 2012
It started getting worse after 1995

Ye after 2014 it got like.. really bad
Pop music was pretty good in 2013 though.

Withro Anime Edits i completely agree! Folklore/Evermore is not generic pop thats all im trying to say! Her last pop era i would say was Lover. She isnt delivering singles at the moment and thats completely fine!
Only because everyone was starving for mainstream music that was not edm or hiphop
The way Ariana STOMPED after this video was released lol.

This video didn’t age well. Since then Taylor, Selena, Dua Lipa, Miley, Katy and Gaga have released amazing new music
katy is the best
@A S uh no
@A S hey, if we're talking about amazing pop music in this year, Bieber is not one of them. Yeah, his new album may sold more, but that won't stop the fact that he forced his fans to buy and stream his God-forsaken single, "Yummy", which is so down-right terrible. And the rest of the album, well, I haven't fully heard. The single "Intentions" is not good in my opinion.
But if you really enjoy his new music, go ahead, enjoy it, and ignore my opinion. I think that Bieber's new music is garbage, while you think otherwise. So, do as I say.
Have a good day/night.
you forgot abt Ariana grande
Lol opinions are like assholes and everyone has one . That being said that's your opinion lol
Meanwhile in 2023:
-Midnights passed 1989 in international peak chart positions
-Dua Lipa has #32 on all-time Billboard Hot 100 chart

-Miley Cyrus's "Flowers" broke an all-time streaming record
-Harry Styles's "As It Was" nominated for 5 Grammys
-Rihanna performed at the Super Bowl
-Beyonce's "Renaissance" album won a Grammy
-Adele's "Easy on Me" won a Grammy
-Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" is top 10 on all-time Hot 100

Yeah, very true 😂
Tatsu Wander Hey, don’t bring Potato into this! They have 1000x the personality than Charlie 😂😂😂
harry styles’s solo music really isn’t geared towards mainstream pop. it’s rock music, so it make sense that we only saw sign of the times, a ballad, on the billboard charts.
also melodrama should have won album of the year at the grammys 🤷🏽♀️
Ugh the album deserved better :( it’s a work of art tbh
It's more folk than rock tbh
Bleak Parade eh it sounds more soft rock to me. songs like woman and kiwi don’t strike me as folk much. mumford and sons, hozier, and the lumineers have a more folk sound.
@@kxngbibi 'Kiwi' deserves more. It didn't topped 'Sign of the Times'
Bro...Thats why I miss Michael Jackson every single day
Pop music and MTV went into a coma when their king died.
Yeah me too :(
Dua Lipa is trying to save the pop, but people are sleeping on her new album
She's trying to do so, but something goes wrong
I think because, nowadays, if a song don't blow up on tiktok, it's not gonna be that popular..and it's a really wrong direction for the pop music. Dua Lipa's new album, as well as some underrated artists are being overshadowed by this so called "pop" music. I just hope more artist will follow her style of music, because one artist is not enough to change the whole pop sound.
@@adisamedunjanin3372 Well Britney Spears, Madonna, Lady Gaga, they changed the pop music alone so why Dua Lipa can't too?

'the same basic vocals over a kygo edm beat' SO TRUE
Internet Jules I love seeing my two favorite music critics showing support
This (most of Selena's "haters" are racists) Racist Bigot trashes Selena, who's music is simply and easily better than most of the artists' mentioned on this video and most of all top 40 hit radio artists, but praises and likes the cheaper music. Selena is no vocalist, that is sure, but neither is Taylor Swift, Madonna, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Chainsmokers, Justin Bieber, and they, among many one-hit wonders, are surely No vocalists. Yet, they are or were loved and sold huge numbers. IT. IS. RACISM that makes most not enjoy the music by Selena. Her REVIVAL album was easily better than 95% of all albums that have been released since in top 40 pop music. Easily. Some of her previous songs were also outstanding. Vocalists: That is not all that makes up a song. If the vocals are great but the rest is typical, basic, expected cheapness, then its all overall poor material. Shawn Mendes sings okay, his music is SO generic. Ed Sheeran sings okay, too, but his music is not that good and his voice, along with Mendes', are horrible. Ariana Grande started off with Good vocals, but over the past couple of years she can longer hold her notes/breath for more than 2 seconds, and her music is not exceptional at all. She goes high but anyone can do that, most simply choose not to. The best of pop are Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber (his "Purpose" music actually sucked but its Justin so it sold), Rihanna, all the EDM artists that we are familiar with, and The Weeknd (as long as he stops crying about his relationships).
Markus E I didn't know it was racist to hate on one person. Wow you learn a lot everyday.
"Just give us something different or leave" I died lol
@@tati1489 A typical racist opinion. "lol"
I miss when Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Rihana and Britney Spears ruled Pop
2019 was a huge turnaround for the genre. Taylor put out a better album, Ariana came into her own and put out some amazing music, the Jonas brothers came back, Katy Perry released new music, it was a huge pop revival. And 2020 is only continuing that
exactly
No , they are just enjoying the last moments of true pop .
They are all in decline and tiktok , social , meme , one hit "artists" are in the rising rn
And the new sounds like HyperPop become popular 😬 like a personality trait
Personally I want great singers with great ALBUMS not just singles with creativity and originality, that have an important message . And good performances, cuz they matter too
It may appear as too much but we had MJ and Beyoncé , so the bar is already high ✨

Im so sad TikTok is tue only thing keeping things up atleast Olivia rodrigo is keeping “up” from being number 1
And Gaga finally released LG6
Katy Perry will never top her success of Teenage Dream, like half the album was hit singles. Firework, Teenage Dream, California Girls, Last Friday Night, The One That Got Away, ET iconic! Haven't been a super fan since that era, kinda over her
Kayla Nichole true
True. Didn‘t she got like 6 number one hit? This is just crazy. But i hope her new album will be huge, i hope she gets again a number one single

Gaga coming back to pop
Katy and Justin starting to write more genuine songs instead of chasing hits
Rihanna coming back to pop
Adele coming back

I don't think so. New generation needs a new generation of Popstar like Britney & Xtina back in late 2000s and Justin and Gaga late 2010s
No, give space to the new ones. Most of these people already took their shot and made the best of it. Artists like Lewis Capaldi, Ava Max, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish(maybe), and many others. We've seen some bright stars but a lot are dying. Look into the future and we could see even brighter stars.

@@brockcutright9289 ...um... you are kind of all over the place but if you are saying Eminem came out after Britney but in the same era of music I agree. My point was that Eminem and Nirvana were not and are not the same era of music. Nirvana was the early 90s grunge era and gangster rap. But not without pop music as Mariah Carey became famous in this era, Celine Dione came out with her first album. Grunge was popular but people often forget there was a lot of pop, Ace of Base, etc. But really I think R&B ruled the mainstream charts more. And I would say all 3 genres are dead: grunge, gangster rap, and R&B.
But I genuinely have no idea what you are saying, it seems contrary to my point but your syntax is confusing so the point you are trying to make is getting a little lost in translation.
Lorde definitely deserves more public recognition, her second album flopped so hard in the general public, in 2013 my mom was OBSESSED with her, hell we had pure heroine cd playing in our car for a year. But in 2017 I had no idea what so ever she mad a second album. Sad!

Yep. I remember the days when you listened to the radio and you could identify the song title and artist and everything was fun and dance worthy. But now all you hear are electronic/trap songs that all sound the same or similar and all the older pop stars are fading because they seemed to have reached their prime between 2010-2015.
Amando Pando back then bubble gum pop. Darkchild (had he same sounds for everyone) Pharrell and others had the same sound for everyone back then... although I miss it. Many things even back then sounded the same
👍Yep, I remember too
You are forgetting that even though the singers are no longer in their prime, their producers can produce pop songs for the new generation, however it can take record labels over $1million to develop a new artist. I feel like it is the fact that Dr Luke is in legal trouble is why Katy is flopping. Dr. Luke prouduced a crapload of hits in the 2000's and 2010's but artists wont work with him due to Kesha's allegation against him. We also had RedOne who produced for Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga with Poker Face, Just Dance, Bad Romance. thats cuz 2017 was so amazing, all our favorite artists need a break, or theyre busy working on whats next. fasten your seatbelt for 2019 and 2020
Minimalist Vlogger well the fact is 2017 was a shitty year of music too as well as 2018
@@OldFantasy the mainstream music is what was shitty
2018 is going by so fast too...

2020:
Taylor came out with the lover album, I love the songs and the whole album was a bop!
Dua lipa has improved so much in terms of stage presence and future nostalgia is such a good album.
Also the weeknd's album is such a masterpiece.
Basically everything is a 70s are 80s
sound and I'm living for it!
lover wouldve been nominated for aoty of 2020 if the single choices were good
@@shayneleightonmula8464 ikr?Just imagine cruel summer, lover and miss Americana and the heartbreak prince as the singles.Like, imagine the power

YES i love her album
Sarah M me too! what's your favorite? mine is pretty please I love the bass in that song
@@tj8169 i like future nostalgia, cool, love again, and pretty please
Hi you should listen to Little Mix's new album called CONFETTI. Its beautiful
@@moriellegutierrez5946 I will!
Anyone remember when the Black Eyed Peas were at the top with like every aong on their album in like 2010 i think lol.. like they were busting out the singles!
yes like ava max
Yes imma be, just can’t get enough. Do you remember Ke$has Tik tok and her first album.
Ikr their era was better I’m sick of rap
Omg I love the black eyed peas sm 😭😭😭😭😭
OMG by Usher

The Crystal Gems yep
Well he’s right 😂
I oofed at that too
Lmao half the time I even get bored of her in her own music videos 😂 Literally got bored watching the new rules vid. Love the song though.
her stage presecne actually changed alot watch Lollapalooza performance
5 years later and we're still waiting on that album from Rihanna and Normani
it’s crazy to see how much has changed since this video
Reputation is doing really great IMO but I absolutely agree with you.Pop music became so generic and lost its identity.
Mayel T I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with you with reputation, 1989 is considered Taylor Swift's best work yet and reputation even though sold more than 1989 in the course of three days has never been able to chart any of the Mega successes with 1989.
Lil Shiba-su Exactly and That’s just not it.When I see some people like Drake,Cardi etc dominating the charts when we all know they got 20 ghostwriters it’s just underwhelming and sad like I don’t feel the authenticity anymore in artists.
Ofc Reputation is doing great. Some artists would kill for 1.3 million first week, but it's Taylor fkn Swift, you know?
SwiftieRunner .89 Lmao Rep didn’t sell more than 1989. Plus 1989 sold more in one week than rep in one week.
Mayel T Most pop stars don't write their own music.
seventeen minutes? the king blessed us 🙏🏾
I didn't realize till I read this comment. Yesss!
AAAAAAAAh i love *SEVENTEEN*

AHHHHH, YOUR PFP
the kpop fans are taking over
I love that this didn’t go as planned
THIS DID NOT AGE WELL!! LOL
yeah that was the point of the video a hope and call for the revival of pop music .It was revived
I don't know why but... i just can't like Dua Lipa, i don't hate her (hate is a really big word) i just don't understand her major fame.
Someone finally said it thank you
same. she's so generic, like the new poster girl of pop.
MØMINSLAND she’s just too bland for me
MØMINSLAND
I don’t know what it is but I just can’t vibe with her. I like 2 songs well enough, but even those are pretty bland.

i think that disco is making a comeback and soon that will be one of the main genres. we’ve had huge disco-inspired hits like say so, don’t start now, and dynamite recently
Hopefully, disco got a very dramatic ending, never fully reaching its potential
2019 and 2020: Folkore. Positions. Fine line. Chromatica. Lover. Rare. Evermore. When we all fall asleep where do we go? Future Nostalgia. Confetti. And a numerous more...
Positions was r&b and is also a bad record
Positions and Rare suck tbh
@@sittn524 i’m not a fan of positions either tbh it’s not trash but it’s very meh. people keep telling me to give it more listens and i did and it did grow on me, but i still think it’s meh compared to other albums in 2020

P!nk is so underrated. She was big in the 2000s but she's honestly so talented and such a great performer, has one of the best voices in this era!
And she is really sweet as a person
Yes! Also Jessie J omg she’s actually very talented
basic sweetheart It just sucks that she never releases any music that showcases her vocals, and apart from Price Tag and Bang Bang, she hasn't really made it big in the US.
Her, Kelly Clarkson, and Avril Lavigne are the underrated trio of the 2000s, they have great voices and good songs.
Did you hear her singing the American anthem? WITH THE FLU? SLAYYYYYYY 👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
One thing I miss is dance songs, people nowadays only release depressed music, and mostly trap, I miss the party songs from 2010-2015

Yep
@Outro : Tear supremist what I also find annoying is that they are always trying to copy each other they are not original anymore, in my opinion the music sounds the same
@@pepetualonyeje4016 agree.
But are people who like pop gonna support underground pop artist?
I feel like rap is becoming so popular because nobody cares about lyrics anymore and being a rapper is a lot easier than being a popstar.
Penguin Fami Likes Pie what do you mean, rap is more easy? Being a rapper is actually hard the reason I say that is because, you have to make the lyrics rhyme, and it’s really hard to make them rhyme if you know what I mean by that, oh it can only be easy if you have your ghost writer lol. Being a singer is easy not to easy cuz you have to make the music and the voice and the melody suit you.
I hate when people undermine rap like this. Rap is much more challenging than pop- telling a good story with rhythm whiles making it flow with music, don't base your judgement of rap on these shit mumble rappers. Rap when done well is a beautiful work of art
@@Meh-uo3fb Yeah but that's not the stuff that gets played on the radio these days.
Penguin Fami Likes Pie Pop music is not about lyrics honey. Pop stars always talk about the same things, love, boyfriends, cheating and that’s it. Rap is a genre that includes deep lyrics, a good beat, flows, bars, punchlines. Rappers are poets. Most of the pop stars that we know can’t relate. Pop is dying because it’s very boring. Point blank. And rap is also dying btw, because nowadays rappers don’t even write their own rap and they think that’s saying « nigga » 19282772 in a song makes you a rapper.
No, being a mumble rapper that has (mostly) only fifteen minutes of fame is easy. Being an actual rapper is HARD.
Unfortunately most of the popstars wanted to be trapstars
When pop artists be begging for streams you know its dead💀
Pop music?
Rock music has been in a Coma for about 8 years! LOL
Michael Streich Avril Lavigne is back which excites me so much. Her rock sound is always so innovative
try symphonic rock, something like within temptation or delain or search, i think u could like it, if u need male singers, well try sonata arctica or stratovarius (i like the most, but there are tons of others)
the only things we live on is queen or guns and roses hElP uS
Mitski is going to save rock
Lmao ever heard of tame impala?
FINALLY! SOMEONE IS SAYING THIS! Pop music has been going down the drain. And it's so weird. It's literally been at the top of charts for years and now we have Drake, Post Malone, Cardi B & Childish Gambino dominating the charts.
I think a lot of this is down to "locals". Rap is so popular within people my age. It's literally what's played at all the parties. And it's what they're constantly streaming on spotify etc.. Streams have such an impact on the Billboard Hot 100, and I think it was Diplo that said teens aren't gonna stream Look What You Made Me Do over and over again, it's not "cool". If you tell people you listen to Taylor Swift they're gonna laugh at you.
well, you have to admit. This Is America did deserve it
to be honest this is the truest comment on the video. everyone listens to rap and even though taylor swift is pretty good she's a joke to a majority of the people you'll meet.
This is so true! Those current chart toppers make my ears bleed tbh.
So true! Here in Greece it's the same! Rap is cool and is what you """""""should""""""" listen to and if you listen to pop you're not a man
Right I been waiting for someone to say that to!
"Dua Lipa has no stage presence". That didn't age well
When one direction will reunite, pop will live again
As a fan, I don't think they will for a while (and I love some of their solo careers so much that I don't want them to write music again as a band)

I wish we could go back to the early half of the 2010's. All genres were popular then. Now it's just hip hop. And yes, while it's cool to see hip hop everywhere, at the same time it's tiring, especially now in 2021, when EVERY SINGLE RAPPEER SOUNDS THE SAME. I don't understand why pop died. It is a great genre. I grew up listening to it. The only thing that is keeping it alive are the 2000-2005 kids who grew up listening to pop, who keep going back and listening to old hits for the nostalgia.
Sia NOT influential?! ...BISH WHERE!!!?!!! She wrote for ALL your favs!!!! LMAO
RIGHT??
Ok she didn’t write that many songs. Most of them didn’t well anyway like Pretty Hurts and Hey Hey Hey
Doesn't have anything to do with influence though? She isn't influential. Her actions don't have any impact on the general public.
not mine ... cuzz she writes her own music
Not my fav.
We need someone to go full bubblegum. Way too many popstars are embracing the "mature, serious" sound to win over skeptics, & it just makes it all so boring. I want a new pop album so sugary it'll give me diabetes.

Dua Lipa's resurrection if pop was the most shocking thing about it.
Another reason 2020 is so damn infuriating? Pop finally started to return! And then the freaking shutdown said NAH. Nobody can have concerts or tour now and obviously nobody can enjoy themselves dancing to the new Pop tunes at a club or party. I really hope 2021 is our saving grace 🙏
