This is my favorite version also. I really like the part when Barbara Stanwyck says to her husband Clifton Webb about her unfaithlessness that in his eyes it was not an immoral act, but a breech of etiquette. Never heard it put quite that way before.
This 1953 version of the Titanic is my favourite. The Catholic priest, although disgraced, becomes a hero: "For God's sake I will." I remember seeing this version at a theatre in my hometown. And, of course, Barbara Stanwick was wonderful. She was in the Thornbirds as well. And she asks a young priest: "Kiss me. Kiss me on the lips!" A retired priest in Canada.
i have this on video but they vcr in my room broke and when i want to watch it i cant we now only have one vcr and my dad is always watching the tv it hooked up to so im looking for the dvd to buy it
To answer somebody's questions; Audrey Dalton was born in Ireland, as was Brian Aherne. I felt that he was totally miscast as Captain Smith, who was short and somewhat stocky. Also, Aherne simply did not project the forecefulness, the intelligentence, of the commander of a major ocean liner. Coincidence: in 1943 he starred in a contemporary mystery movie title "A Night to Remember'.
Now this is before James Cameron's film, before Leonardo Dicaprio says I'm the king of the world & before the song call'ed My Heart will go on by sungha jung.
Yes, this version is inaccurate but I enjoy it as an excellent work of fiction. I particularly like the no-nonsense Barbara Stanwyck and the down-to-earth Thelma Ritter. I've only seen Audrey Dalton one other time, on "Bonanza". I hopt that talented actress did a lot more work. With her upper-class accent I can't tell if she's American or British. Does anyone know?
I'm with the 1997 titanic with LEO and Kate coz like that movies amazing and if you say it's not explain the 11 oscars the new one that came out in 2012 is dumb.
There was a 1930's movie of the Titanic as, as well. Don't remember the exact year. I liked the 1953 version, this one, with Barbara Stanwyck. And the 1995, or was that 97? The one Leo played in.
Oh, my goodness, didn't know they did a 2012 Titanic movie. I haven't cable and never read ads or paper. I'm like many others: all my entertainment comes from my laptop. Everything in one little Laptop. All my entertainment comes from: Fb, Netflix, CZcams, and my movies from Xfinity from my son's acct.
Oh, the 2012 tv series is bad, even soo much bad than the 1996 tv movie, also 2012 tv series is damn very innaccurate! It was ironic, since they should be learn the mistakes from the previous Titanic movie. If you compared the 2012 titanic tv series with the 1996 tv movie, i'll choose the 1996
Even though this movie was I believe the 2nd of 3 versions--- I believe I like this as well as the 1995 film. They are somewhat different in the story telling. But, some similarities as well. No matter what film the one thing that totally is disrespectful-- is someone singing a hymn by someone who doesn't know the song, in question. As I watched the daughter, she sang and honestly didn't know the words. You'd think the director would notice that. I suppose it doesn't matter whether or not one can sing in the house of the Lord. This isn't the first time I've seen this happen. I've seen this disrespect in other movies. Other than that, I certainly enjoyed this movie. Thanks so much for the upload.
This is so 1950s Hollywood. Does anyone in this film have a British accent? The total lack of attempt to capture anything remotely accurate to 1912 is a little distracting. It’s as if the Titanic set sail from Long Beach. Still the emotional impact is powerful and that’s really what this version is about. All the sets are grossly inaccurate and it’s all very Hollywoodized. Compare it to A Night to Remember and you will see the difference. That movie practically transports you.
the 1997 film was not awful, but it was mostly effects of all kinds and less plot...the older films were mostly plot and less or not at all effects...and alas, today's cinema is mostly effects...good writing, good stories are very very hard to find in today's films...
This was the first movie I saw about the Titanic and it will always be my favorite in spite of being historical inaccurate.
trailer standards have really improved since then!
One of my all-time favorites.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Although highly inaccurate, one of my favorites. Love it.
They didn't know it at the time that the ship had split in half during the sinking
"He's not your son" = heartbreaking "Nearer my god to thee" = heart breaking
Great movie!!! Loved it! Barbara was amazing. I don't care if its inaccurate I still loved it.
This is my favorite version also. I really like the part when Barbara Stanwyck says to her husband Clifton Webb about her unfaithlessness that in his eyes it was not an immoral act, but a breech of etiquette. Never heard it put quite that way before.
"For you, what happened isn't a mortal sin.
It is an inexcusable breach of etiquette."
Amazing

They should've filmed the movie in color.
This one & the 1997 on e are the best ones

The narrator sounds like Dan Aykroyd.
The part where the father tells his son "I feel as tall as a mountain" makes me lose it every time! :'(
so true!
I have this on VHS 📼
Thelma Ritter!!
WOW

If "ThePirateyand23" is talking about the 1953 version, Robert Wagner is still alive.
A Night to remember.
Richard Basehart in the original: Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. :o)

ieuan john The 2012 miniseries from the makers of Downton Abbey
In my previous post I meant to say unfaithfulness instead of unfaithlessness. What was I thinking?
The Trailer of THE : TITANIC of ( 1953 ) .02/12/2019MIKE NOLAN .
Anybody in 2020?
a look at = = WHAT HAPPEND on the night the TITANIC SANK .
Um, does the ship actually sink in this version?
Don't write "um".
@Dallas_K it's a use of sarcasm, so "um" does go there.
It does with a very alternate sad ending
i think some versions of titanic(1953,1996,1997....) is same ,but evidently ''no''

Like those who are here in 2020
The 2012 one is the exact same as the 1997 one....it's just in 3D.

ITS THE 21st CENTURY, PLEASE
Inaccurate that time cause it was not discovered in the sea bed if technology is working that time.maybe its okay
what did you except it was 1953 they did not find the wreck yet.
Who plays Norman? You know, the kid.

yes
In this version, does Robert Wagner throw his wife off the ship?
That would have been before he married Natalie. That is still a mystery to most.
No. HE falls overboard.
days of maids and racism..can tell older generation comment.

WTF?
Looks too American for me.
Hit the like button if you think Robert Wagner in this movie looks like Leonardo DiCaprio just a little bit.
Wow movies back then sucked lol. They always have singing wtf .
You must be 12-years-old, to not enjoy the writing in this film. And, have so little education, you can't appreciate really good writing.
Who cares if it's inaccurate it's a better movie than James Cameron's cheesy nonsense
This is second rate compared with 1958's A Night to Remember!!!! The 1997 movie is awful beyond words
