Napoleon Dynamite Stars Reunite in Burger King's Stupidly Charming Ad for Cheesy Tots Jon Heder and Efren Ramirez, like the product, are back for a limited time.
If you're going to talk about tater tots, you might as well get the stars of Napoleon Dynamite to do it.
Yes, the cult film debuted over a decade ago (2004, to be exact) but there probably hasn't been another piece of pop culture that has embraced-and celebrated-tater tots. So, Burger King has gotten Jon Heder (the titular Napoleon) and Efren Ramirez (Pedro) to help sell Cheesy Tots, back at BK for a limited time.
The 30-second spot, from agency Code and Theory, employs the same kind of dumb yet charming delivery that made the film a hit.
The point, of course, is to let consumers know that their demands for the return of Cheesy Tots have been heard.
"Fans have been craving the return of Cheesy Tots for some time now," Alex Macedo, president of North America at BK, said in a statement. "So we wanted to give loyalists a holiday surprise after we heard so many of their requests. Now they'll be able to warm up to these cozy cheese and potato bites this holiday season."

The best part of school lunch was always eating tater tots, followed by not getting beat up by your middle-school bully Andy. Perhaps that last part was just us. Capitalizing on your nostalgic love of that beloved childhood food, Burger King is reintroducing its Cheesy Tots for a limited time.
BK discontinued the deep-fried cheesy potato bites back in 2009, much to the anger of social media. But thanks to the incessant drumbeat of people demanding the King return the potato bites to the kingdom, the tots are back.

Sadly cheesy tots have never been the same after the very first time they released them. This could have been a staple item for BK because as my memory serves me well, they were THE side to get at BK back in the day, and trust me, I love their onion rings.

During trials, the recipe with more cheese resulted in cheese running and burning on the outside during frying, hence how the potato / cheese ratio was struck for the final product
